Matty is spot on re home ground advantage. The reward for the Sharkies isn’t a home final, its the 2nd chance thats the reward. Playing a finals game in a professional league at a 13k seat stadium is complete bush league.
As a Manly fan, it doesn't piss me off that we weren't the best we could've been. I'm stoked that we finally won a game that we were trailing and had no right to win. Can't think of any game that we came from behind to win it this year, outside of maybe the Cowboys game but we were also 18-6 up at one point there.
In regards to the golden Point debate; I think an 80 minute draw is enough for one point for each team. For the next 10 minutes, extra time golden Point or golden try, but the winner takes the extra point. It would be great to break up the ladder. Also love the four-point conversion try! Love the show. Cheers!
I think the theatre of golden point is greater because of the unpredictability of it. When you see a prop forward carting the ball up you know for sure he is not getting through the defensive line to score. When someone attempts a field goal everyone's holding their breath because they don't know if it's going over or not.
Hats off fellas, what an outstanding poscast. Always produce the goods and speak with a lot of honesty and knowledge, really love the way you all interact and bounce of each other Lots of great information and statistics that obviously involves a lot of research and time Thank you , its so refreshing to listen to
Counterpoint to the 'Sharks earned a home final'. The Sharks earned a guaranteed second chance in the finals - that is the reward for their work during the home-and-away season. The Sharks wouldn't even be raising this as an issue if they were playing Newcastle or a Sydney-based team this week. The Sharks got 16,000 to an Elimination Final against the Cowboys at Allianz Stadium in 2017. The following week the Cowboys played the Eels at ANZ in front of 41,000 fans. Agree with the point that Sydney teams should get a chance to play at Allianz during the regular season as part of the draw.
Allianz isn't there home ground why should they host games there during the regular season? This is the system that's been in place for years where in the second week you move to a home region ground. Sharks are only whinging now because they haven't got a fanbase that will get even close to a half decent crowd at Allianz
@@deano2110 Because it is the SFS. The roosters were told to take down their signs outside the stadium. It is home to the waratahs, sydney fc and the roosters, any team can play there with permission from Venues NSW.

Shark Park is a 34 minute drive from Allianz. Are you really going to say they aren’t going to have the home crowd advantage because of a 34 minute drive?
Roosters fan here, not pissed about that forward call in a nutshell.. pissed that ash Klein has a howler or two against us almost every single game, just remmber harry grants knock on last year, 12 point call. I'm certain almost every single fan feels the same way about him, how on earth is he our best ref? I have thought Sutton was a flog for eternity but he's come good this year and has let games play themselves.
Us manly fans aren’t delusional either. I think we all know Bulldogs were the better team. However it was nice to see us win in a way we hadn’t done this year.
For me this is how to go about the Extra Time/Golden Point: Golden Try, you can kick a field goal but it doesn't end the game (draw after 10 in the regular season). Also In the regular season: 4 points for a win, 2 for a draw (after 90) and 1pt for making it to Golden Point. Also love the idea of Guru's 4pt conversion. Imagine if that was available for the Eels-Dragons game a few weeks back. That would have made the end of that game insane.
Instead of a golden point, why not just extend the game by an extra 10min and see who ends with the most points. Then it won't stop the game after one field goal. It'll become a game of chess - is a field goal enough to win or do we need a try.
All finals at SFS or Suncorp for weeks 1 to 3. Price the tickets cheaper to get crowds if needed. Finals should be for all fans. Finals weekends used to be like mini maglc rounds. Did not matter who was playing it was an event.
On the talk of fish and Leota being potentially the GOATS of the forwards pairing, we look at this Penrith team… having 3 premierships to the name and the front runners for the 4th. Panthers have lost so many players and we wonder how they continue to do it. Nathan? Ivan? Luai? The consistency of fish and Leota would have to be one of the biggest factors for me. How they finish so well on the ladder, even when Nathan is out. Their work, and the stats that aren’t shown like the play the ball speed, ideas of no post contact and prepare the next run better or Nathan. These two are the greatest in the NRL I have seen
To be fair to Robbo, he didn’t bring the forward pass up he was asked about it, and his answer was that he didn’t agree with the call but he was in no way saying that call is why the Chooks lost. I think broadly Roosters fans are just annoyed at Ashley Klein for inserting himself in the game so much. Most of us know we weren’t good enough at the start of the game to go on and win, but that call did ruin any momentum we might have been building off the back of two quick tries to start the second half. Also Guru you don’t need to be so harsh on us just to keep up this charade that you don’t have a team! We all know you put a Chooks jersey on and watch Sammy Walker highlights in the dark when you’re on your own!
Question for beaks bag: posted this a few weeks back but will post again after seeing what’s happened at the start of the roosters manly game. Thoughts on the nrl changing to a 5 man bench with an outside back on the bench? Still keep 18th man and the outside back 5th man is replacement for hia or injury. If the injured player is taken off they cannot be brought back on
Sharkies fan here fellas, re the home ground thing: 1. We don't get an increased capacity for our stadium as part of the renovations as the state government originally had slated funding for us to contribute. Unfortunately, that got pulled and put towards Penrith, Manly, Leidcart etc. instead as they were more competitive seats for the electorates. Because we are footing bill ourselves, we can't afford a significant upgrade. Penrith and west's have a much bigger pokies pool to generate revenue from to help their efforts and Manly has the government grant. 2. Our stadium is a pile of shit (respectfully), Allianz is fine enough for week 2 (about an hour on the train from the shire) but I appreciate the support for our home games. We have finished top 8 9 of the last 10 years, won one prem in that time and we have like the lowest average crowd attendance not due to lack of support but because we just can't fit any more people in the ground and the infrastructure and parking system is absolutely diabolical. I'd love a stadium to the size/standard of WIN or Brooky tbh.
Agreed, i'd be moving KPP to the right, and having Lucas on the left. Lucas is way too good to not be starting. With DSaf leaving, Friz can play a middle role. They also have Leo's twin brother coming, if he's anything close to as good as Leo, that will be huge.
Beaks bag - if peak Denan could play for any club this year (not the Broncos😂), which club would suit his play style best? Which team would Denan most want to be part of?
If knights won but Dearden scored 2 tries and set up 3, he would not get anywhere near the same coverage Ponga has been getting in a losing finals team
If they can get a quality halfback i think they can be top 4 contenders. The rest of the team is good. Elite backs, good middles, promising edge players, solid hooker in crossland - they just need a half to take the pressure off KP.
Beaks Bag: What if its golden try for 10mins then do a conversion kick shoot out. Each side chooses their 5 best kickers. Straight in front, middle of centre and sideline each side, then each sideline. Stops players playing too many extra minutes and fatiguing for next week. Would help improve conversion kickers too.
Personally i think in a draw scenario it should be 10 minutes of extra time (5 min halves), then if its still drawn it should be extra time. Best of both worlds, encouraging tries during the extra 10 mins then getting the excitement of field goals
Kempy, after seeing Shaun Johnson on Fox, me and my flatmates have been debating our top five steppers of all time. We have SJ, RTS, ponga and Benji, but there’s a lot of debate about the fifth. What are your guys thoughts??
Same story with the Warriors last year. Was told to have their finals games at Eden park which holds a lot more fans than Mt smart stadium but they were still allowed their semi against knights to be played at Mt smart even tho it holds around 20,000 fans max which isn’t fair to sharks this year. Doesn’t make sense.
Mate Cowboys fans get upset because when we win all media does is talk about the team we beat! When we lose they hype up the team that beat us We are a forgotten toy and it’s frustrating
100% right about Roosters performance. They don't have a plan B when their A game is stifled. It was pretty poor and the dodgy call was nothing in the scheme of things. One thing about the forwards under performance, you can only dominate physically if your halves have a kicking game, the roosters dont and their isnt much the forwards can do without it.
Does it really matter about the sharks they are a NSW based team getting a NSW stadium against the cowboys, theres a chance there will be more sharkies fans than usual ?

Beaks Bag question: somewhat unrelated, could this be the first time we go into a tournament with NZ being a legit favourite? Cleary, Edwards, Moses and some others won’t play cause of injuries and the losses for NZ are Brown and Cheese (who missed last year anyway), with Hughes being Dally M fav and the forward stocks as high as ever, could NZ be the front runners for the first time realistically?
All this talk about DCE and turbo and clutch plays. They win by 2. Give praise to Reuben Garrick. His sideline conversion was the difference. As a dogs supporter it breaks my heart that so many games this year we lost with goal kicking. Burtons not a bad goal kicker at all, it just so happens that goal kickers are on fire when they play against us.
Boys another dozen on the Vera lynn please!! It's amateur hour!! Week one home ground fair enough ! Week 2 on major stadiums only !! Honestly are we a professional game!!!!
Beaks Bag question: What are your thoughts on reducing the number of players on the field to 12, not 13? When the rules were written with 13 players on the field, the game wasn’t professional. The players are fitter now and it can take pressure off the refs in controlling the ruck speed
As a Roosters fan I think you guys have touched on but actually missed the main cause of our issues and it's discipline. My only real criticism of Robbo is how much he has never fixed the discipline of the team in both errors and especially infringements. In 2013 to 2020 this didn't hurt us because our defense would cover it because there was no 6 again. The constant giving away of penalties in yardage and 6 agains in attacking position where we're not getting the break and resetting or just conceding 2 points is killing us. The extra run meters per set, the lack of kick meters etc. come back to this. Our backs are constantly getting the ball off short kicks and not able to get return meters, the opposition is getting opportunities to grab extra meters because we're conceding stupid penalties and set restarts and the ongoing knock on and 7 tackle set turn overs. The constant putting ourselves under extra pressure with lazy discipline in every sense is killing us.
I hate the amount of crap Hynes gets whenever Sharks lose. Plenty of Sharks players were to blame this game. Trindall has also seemed to remain the main playmaker since Hynes returned from injury as well imo so even more unfair on Hynes. I just can't see those 2 working together in the halves though. They definitely need a better fullback too and time to move on from Kennedy so maybe Hynes moves there and i agree Brailey needs to be more involved and probably running more too.
Beaks bag- this year has been the emergence of the ultimate utility Tyran Wishart, have we ever seen a bloke score a try as a middle forward, a half, a hooker, and a winger, all in the same season?
As a sharkies supporter I'm ok with all our finals games being sent to Allianz, except for if we're paired against Roosters. But with so much emphasis on the TV product I don't know why it's such a big deal to have more than 13k in the stadium. If the NRL truly cares about crowd sizes shouldn't they have the finals games in the afternoon on a weekend.
Matty is bang on with the home ground advantage. Absolute bush league to suggest that the game be played at Shark Park and is a little contradictory of many things said on the show about growing the game over the past few years. Sharks made the decision to sell off the real estate around the stadium rather than building a fit for purpose venue to host finals games, this is the consequence of that.
Penalty shoot out- 5 goals, all minimum 20m out, one directly in front, one each sideline, and one half way between on each side. You must have 5 different kickers. Coin toss, winner picks who kicks first, loser picks which end it takes place
Golden point isn’t that bad but it can be tweaked to make the product better for sure. And it’s easy fixed seriously wild they haven’t changed it already.. 2 x 5 minute halves Extra time normal play teams can win by scoring tries only. Opposition have a right of reply within the time limit and also receive ball off kickoff from tries scored. To promote attacking movement of the ball. 99% of games would be determined here after a fulltime draw. No field goals no goal kick options for penalties it’s 6 again or sin bins. Then if still at deadlock a further 2 x 5 minute halves played Golden point introduced inwhich field goals are then brought back in.
It's exactly the same in AFL mate. Some traditions need to be upheld. The GF has always been in Sydney because it's more popular in Sydney it's that simple. The AFL biggest fear will be the day 2 Sydney teams make the GF.
@@uteboy86 to be clear, I have no issue with the GF being in Sydney, the argument that a team has ‘earned’ the right to a home final is just silly. Also the GF being in Sydney is not because of tradition, it’s because that’s who the NRL have the contract with.
I have watched Shows on channel 9 and fox where they talk about the top 8 and they have covered every team and just blatantly forget to talk about cowboys JT called it years ago
Beaks Bag: What player would you each bring to your club to win a premiership next season (other than Cleary.) For the sake of the question Guru can be a roosters fan (we all know he’s a Politis sleeper agent and wears chooks underwear anyway.)
Highlighting the keary potential sin bin as a square up for the wrong call on the forward pass is wild. What about the taruva trip? Dont bring that up at all because it doesn’t fit the square up narrative
Allianz is literally 26km away from Shark Park. No one is stopping Sharks fans from going, you're acting like they're playing behind closed doors without fans 😂
Regarding Bulldogs... anything is possible next year, but any 'feeling' about them not falling off is not based on facts at all... citing their great defensive record, the Wahz had the 2nd best defence in 2023. Fact is it's a tough AF competition and the margins are thin AF. It's a fine line between just making it in the 8, being just outside the 8 and being "12th or 13th"... a few injuries, bad calls here and there, there but for the grace of God do go all teams other than Melbourne and Penrith and the old reliable finals also rans at the moment. All the best to the Dogs next year but only time will tell, you can't predict it.
JWH, Radley, Cheese. That's alot of our hard nosed mongrel missing in the pack Kempy. All 3 arguably always lead our line speed in D and have the ability to put attackers on their back side. Penrith dominated, no denying that. And most probably would have done so with those players available. They're not 3× champs by mistake. The forwards would be filthy at their performance. But it wasn't only SWalker we were missing. Put some respect on the other boys names
Cleary is good but I wouldn’t say he is in the goat ranks yet, I just looked at the ballon dor ranking of this year compared to 10 years ago and 20 years ago there are miles apart similar to Cleary talent he has is skill he has it toughness he has it but the talent he is playing against compared to the others the likes of Jt Cooper Sterlo Joey played against is miles apart. It’s like Haaland he has scored nearly 100 goals in 75 games but he is playing against Harry Maguire
Sharks fan. And this home ground advantage thing has been constantly misreported. You only get a home final week one of finals. Then it’s NRL policy to be metropolitan stadiums for larger size THE PROBLEM came when scheduling with the swans suggested the sharks Allianz game would be moved to COMMBANK Sharks unhappy with how far that would be for fans to travel they suggested having it at home instead as travelling fans to play a interstate club would only attract around 16k at parramatta, so why can’t we play at home and get 14k? Sharks were fine with Allianz it was the move to Parramatta that prompted the controversy
Golden Point isn't played in finals until after 10 minutes of extra time in finals. I'd prefer 20 minutes like it used to be as you'll pretty much always have a winner. I kinda hate golden point in regular season games, I'd prefer a draw
48:54 disagree with the sharks or roosters getting a home final after they lost Tbh I think the winner from the 5-8 should get the home final in second week if they win
@@supaplayer123 so you could finish 8th and get 2 home finals and 3rd place who might fall short of second on For and Against and then lose by say 2 in week 1 gets no home final. Time for a HIA I think buddy
@blokeinabar what would be wrong at the end of extra time and it’s still level and no golden point the team highest on the ladder in the regular season go through. No team is going to play for the draw like soccer. Tackling is way too hard. Agree with all your points about the drop goal-athon.
Boys I think you're missing such a vital part of the forward pass call, its not so much it being called forward it's the referee who called it. The touch judge on the sideline cleared the pass and Ashley Klien overruled him, Ashley Klein at every opportunity finds a way to screw the roosters over in the finals. Last year against Melbourne and Souths in 2022. It's become part and parcel that he will make himself the centre of attention in every game he referee's
@@seanh1988mate were the roosters even playing in the first 30? 😂 but sure let’s blame the ref we got 24-0 at half. You should blame Daniel Tupou Mr reliable dropping two crucial kicks
Too much dribble on the home ground advantage. At the end of the day, the field is still made from grass and 100m long. If you’re the better team you’ll win.
When you look at teams dropping out of the 8 you have got to look at where their squad & development is at. Broncos have done zero to rebuild they’re the exact same minus Kev. Parra same dogshit done nothing gone BUT Dogs are still building they haven’t peaked or even got close to the final package. Roosters & Knights drop right out no chance. The Panthers, 10 finals wins in a row to equal the legendary '56 to '66 premiership winning St George team.
Should the NRL have a handicap system based on what positions teams finish? For example less home games or salary cap increases for lower teams?

Feldt robbed of hungriest players
Beaks Bag question: What are your thoughts on reducing the number of players on the field to 12, not 13? When the rules were written with 13 players on the field, the game wasn’t professional. The players are fitter now and it can take pressure off the refs in controlling the ruck speed
Cleary over Grant as hungriest player 🤔
its a Cleary glazing poddy bro, its normal
The Beak froths over Cleary so much that you'd think he was born on the banks of the Nepean wearing a Panthers jersey. It's really over the top.
@@nbozz9699 nah only penref glazer Guru froths over him and that club
Macintyre for me is what Scotty Bolton used to be for the Cowboys, a solid workhorse that just puts in consistent effort
How was the kikau charge down not talked about more as a critical mistake that costs the dogs. Wasn’t needed and costed them in the end.
Trent Loiero is stiff to miss out on team of the week
Beaks bag for the boys - With the NRL hitting Vegas again next year, where else do you think the NRL will/should aim to expand and market the game?
Kempy you are so adamant of Hynes being the 7. He's not a half bro. He's a deadset 6/FB
Hynes last finals win was with the Storm in the Grand final when he played 0 minutes. then lost 7 in a row with him playing 80+ minutes. Hmmm
Also can’t forget that nicho hynes did win a premiership ring in 2020
Penalty shoot out- 5 goals, all minimum 20m out, one directly in front, one each sideline, and one half way between on each side. You must have 5 different kickers. Coin toss, winner picks who kicks first, loser picks which end it takes place
Am I the only person that saw the 2 metre forward pass that set up the bullemor try before halftime that eventually won Manly the game
Don’t like the scrum option instead of conversion. Almost every sideline kick would result in it
Golden point isn’t that bad but it can be tweaked to make the product better for sure.
Golden point usually 2-3 guys are the hero a team.
Golden try anyone on the team could be the hero!
On the home final issue, Melbourne won the minor premiership, should they make the GF, they HAVE to go to Sydney. How’s that fair?
It's exactly the same in AFL mate. Some traditions need to be upheld. The GF has always been in Sydney because it's more popular in Sydney it's that simple. The AFL biggest fear will be the day 2 Sydney teams make the GF.
@@uteboy86 to be clear, I have no issue with the GF being in Sydney, the argument that a team has ‘earned’ the right to a home final is just silly. Also the GF being in Sydney is not because of tradition, it’s because that’s who the NRL have the contract with.
I have watched Shows on channel 9 and fox where they talk about the top 8 and they have covered every team and just blatantly forget to talk about cowboys
JT called it years ago
Beaks Bag:
What player would you each bring to your club to win a premiership next season (other than Cleary.) For the sake of the question Guru can be a roosters fan (we all know he’s a Politis sleeper agent and wears chooks underwear anyway.)
Boys yes we got pimped by the Pennies but they score 1 late shitty try last 60 min .
We showed heaps of courage
Cleary is a champ in the Penrith system but Origin?
Debuted at 21, is 26 now. Moses 29, DCE 35. Cleary has had a part in 3 winning series.
@@SlaintheMhathfacts
Yawn, blokes 26. Arguably has 6 years to dominate an Origin.
@@kingandrewjoeyjohns Yawn, Joey, JT, Cooper all say half backs get much better in their late 20s and into their 30s.
That scrum option after a try sounds diabolical.
If Bellyache & Billy Smith can see something in him…..
Billy Smith surely one of the goats lol
I’ve been under the opinion that the roosters would chase papinhuizen in the next coming years rather than ponga
Beaks bag: Which NRL team has the best social media content ?
Nrl - finals game enters golden point
Guru - “fuck this” turns off tv
The Knights are an 1 man team
Please get athletes from other sports on! Would be awesome
dogs will make the 8 next year, they wont take it this year for *harry granted*
Let's go boy's!
Then it’s NRL policy to be metropolitan stadiums for larger size
THE PROBLEM came when scheduling with the swans suggested the sharks Allianz game would be moved to COMMBANK
Sharks unhappy with how far that would be for fans to travel they suggested having it at home instead as travelling fans to play a interstate club would only attract around 16k at parramatta, so why can’t we play at home and get 14k?
Sharks were fine with Allianz it was the move to Parramatta that prompted the controversy
Golden Point isn't played in finals until after 10 minutes of extra time in finals. I'd prefer 20 minutes like it used to be as you'll pretty much always have a winner. I kinda hate golden point in regular season games, I'd prefer a draw
Love me some
Coffee ☕️
I think it’s fair for the game to be moved, they still have the home advantage in that they don’t have to travel out of Sydney
The Knights are one good halfback away from being a top 4 side.
48:54 disagree with the sharks or roosters getting a home final after they lost
Tbh I think the winner from the 5-8 should get the home final in second week if they win
@@supaplayer123 so there's no reward for finishing 3rd or 4th potentially on 1st or second righto buddy 🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@deano2110 lmao it’s called a second chance when you lose
Yes mate I’m sure he has an agenda against the Roosters 🤦🏻♂️
Klein loves the Rif. I don't think he has a hard on for being the Rooters bad calls he just loves making sure the Rif wins.
@@seanh1988 Keary in the bin for a professional foul? Klein hates Penrith?
Klein was in line, it was an instant call get over it.
Out of curiosity who was the ref for the 2019 gf buddy
@@seanh1988mate were the roosters even playing in the first 30? 😂 but sure let’s blame the ref we got 24-0 at half. You should blame Daniel Tupou Mr reliable dropping two crucial kicks
Too much dribble on the home ground advantage. At the end of the day, the field is still made from grass and 100m long. If you’re the better team you’ll win.
It's going to take something special to best either Melbourne or Penrith, can't see anyone doing it and they will probably be in the gf
Dont forget turuvas trip
You wouldnt know Manly won or even played watching this.
Boys, a hot take you should discuss. Greg marzhew is just a wish version of Brian to'o
Who is your all time big game / big moment player ?
I prefer golden try. But make it 9v9.
kalyn ponga is one or two headknocks from retirement
Far out will Guru ever be able to pronounce “Khan-Pereira” right??? Two Rs in their mate
Pierra
When you look at teams dropping out of the 8 you have got to look at where their squad & development is at.
Broncos have done zero to rebuild they’re the exact same minus Kev. Parra same dogshit done nothing gone BUT Dogs are still building they haven’t peaked or even got close to the final package.
Roosters & Knights drop right out no chance. Dragons come straight in with Flano will look a lot like the Dogs of this year
Why does Matty hate the sharks so much? Is it because they are 0 - 2 against us this year ? 😂
Golden try would be way better.
Guru, you're off your head with the extra play after try. No no no
