    If you're wondering, "What actually causes psychopathy?" then listen up. There is indeed one childhood disorder that could lead to psychopathy, sociopathy or narcissism and its called "Oppositional Defiant Disorder".
    Children can be difficult: this is a given. But sometimes a child’s difficult behavior occurs so often and is so severe that it can hurt family relationships. This series covers the diagnosis that, believe it or not, is an opportunity to change your child’s life for the better. Welcome to the MedCircle Original Series, “Oppositional Defiant Disorder: Parenting Strategies for Combative Kids."
    ABOUT THE SERIES:
    Children can be difficult; this is a given. But sometimes a child’s difficult behavior occurs so often and is so severe that it can negatively impact family relationships. This series covers the diagnosis that, believe it or not, is an opportunity to change your child’s life for the better. While all children have symptoms of oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) from time to time, there are certain factors that differentiate whether a child’s difficult behavior can be managed at home, or whether there’s a need for outside intervention. This series will walk you through how to recognize whether this behavior warrants professional help, how to find the right mental health providers if that’s the case, what treatment options are available, and how to successfully parent difficult behavior in the long-term. Welcome to your crash course for parenting combative kids.

      I need help with my fiance's son. He jas ADHD, also shows a lot of signs of having sociopathic and psychopathic traits and believe he has ODD. My fiance does not believe me but he is not the one home with him all day. I have been watching the symptoms get worse for almost 4 years. He does not act out at teachers as far as I know, it is his grandparents and his father and I. He is almost 10 years old and he is also already talking about wanting to go to prison and hurting people and stuff like that. We had him in to see a counselor and he just told the counselor what he thought the man wanted to hear and the counselor said he is fine and he doesnt need to come in anymore. 😱🤯. I seriously need help. He has tried hotwiring 2 cars already and bragged about killing a chipmunk over the weekend at his grandparent's house.

    My daughter exhibited signs of ODD, but ADD/ADHD was all a buzz when she was a kid, so it went undetected. I took her to several types of therapies from the time she was 4 or 5. she was thrown out of one school, and shamed at the next. Finally in high school, she found her place and was able to use her voice in a way that was welcomed. She is now an amazing 19 yo with a near 4.0 at college, and has many friends, and no scary vices. Thank God.

    There are some reasons why Dr Sportelli found a great deal of support when he came out and said his son had ODD. 1. He's a psychiatrist, so obviously colleagues will be supportive. 2. He's got money. 3. He looks like a male model.
    If it was a child from a poor family that had the same diagnosis, signs and symptoms, they would be most likely blamed and yelled at. No support given at all.

      I don't really think that he's a narcissist, he admits that he's not able to deal with his child's problem on his own, which is actually impossible for a narcissist and foremost we should really watch our mouth when we talk about mental health, because even though we know bits and fragments, even the most knowledgeable psychologist always refrain himself from giving a diagnosis based on a short interview and if they do it, they do it on DEAD people, and they always put their hands forward by saying: ''this is not to be taken as a serious diagnosis'', so what success you think we might have in spotting an illness?

    I watch a vast majority of medcircle videos whether they’re applicable to myself or the cases on my case load. I’ve enjoyed listening to the various doctors, lmft’s, etc. and their insight on the topics presented. I must say, this particular doctor does not come across as warm/approachable. How he’s presenting the information on the topic reminds me more of a politician vs. someone children would find accessible / want to engage with. Hopefully, if he’s on additional video segments, I can get a better sense of him being a down to earth type of person.

    • @jeteaze
      @jeteaze 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      val erie To be honest, my favorite teachers weren’t the stereotypical warm teachers. They were the ones that were matter of fact and presented information in an objective way and used a lot of analogies. As an adult, I don’t love listening to him. But as a child that had a hard time opening up and trusting adults, I think I would have really liked and done well with him. He takes a lot time to explain things and is patient. My mother was very warm and approachable and she is a very kind person. But she doesn’t explain things very well and she always told me to let things go instead of giving me relatable examples and helping me feel like I’m not alone and what I was feeling wasn’t wrong.

    I raised my grandson. He was diagnosed with ODD. It was excruciating. He did more damage in society by vandalism than theft or aggression. I understand and understood the “why?” But did not know how to fix it. He is now in his early twenties and is being assessed for autism. I am broken hearted for him.

    • @arthurb6059
      @arthurb6059 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Many Asperger kids also have ODD. My two cents is that I believe it's pretty much possible that the autism functioning helps develop ODD when the chid has a more aggressive temper (not all Aspergers do), because autistic kids have a hard time understanding social dynamics, are very inflexible and disconnected from people, which could "prepare" the ground for ODD to develop. There's a lot of blame and inhumane expectations being put on parents, as society tends to attribute mishavior to bad education, which is true only in some cases. Genetics plays a big role in such disorders. Parents in such settings are often the biggest victims ever. If this doc had a real ODD child, he wouldn't be smiling and being so positive. Or he's faking it, because, as a doctor, he can't show his despair, otherwise no one would trust his treatment. Plus, he's inflating data by saying up to 70% of ODD kids overcome it. What I've learned from several sources is that about 40 to 50% do so and not before spending all their infancy acting out in a way that takes parents to the verge of their sanity. The thing I've noticed to help the most is medication, which helps decrease their agressiveness and then all the rest tends to get a little bit better: they get to listen more and be able to stop lashing out more often. Behavioral assistance is also very helpful as these kids don't tend to respond to typical discipline.

    Proffessional psychologists never exploit their children. Lack of integrity and secrecy is not ok. Narcissistic behavior even from professionals, because they live on fake prosona of beeing so empathetic and understanding, but talk about their childrens bad behavior in a way that can harm that child, because that is how narcissistic people do, create a social Contactnet to ensure that their is something wrong with their child. I have been treating ODD and NFD and anti social behavior without medication or therapy treatment as one professional Swedish Healthpedagogy, and never worked with that kind of unproffessional way to talk about personal things about my child, or even mentoond someones vulnerability to gain some status myself. I haté that so much! And hope that your son have someone else to turn to.

    The husband had ODD behavior, he was antisocial, a substance abuser, ALL OF IT! Then covered up her “stuff” from the beginning because he saw himself! Oh She’s the baby I was the baby people don’t understand … he’s now dead, she’s 18 and its now on steroids.

    Maybe MedCircle should make a video about people who have watched a couple of psychology-related videos and they go on and tag everyone a narcissist! He mentioned it himself that he decided to include his relationship with his son in this talk on purpose. And he's not trying to "hide" his son's disorder under the carpet, which only means how much of a supportive father he actually is. Because as he said nobody is perfect and saying that somebody has a disorder shouldn't carry any amount of blame or incompetence , he owns his son's disorder and openly talks about it, something that only a professonal like him can do. And you can see that since it's his son, he's gotten emotional and can't easily maintain the level of professionalism he shows in other talks. It really hurt to read some of the comments

At time i feel i owe them for the time i was in the abusive relationship since their birth but im out and they are too. And i work hard to makesure they feel know they are loved safe and secure and they come to me for anything no secrets or worries as everything can he fixed and i van support yhem through anything. They tell me daily mama your so amazing and they tell me how lucky they are and i tell them how luck and amazing they are. There was a boy in our class when i was a kid, he used to make people join him into doing vandalism, throwing apples at people, stealing stuff from the gym at night. Making forest fires, he once or twice attacked another child with a stick and spit on him on the way home from school. I cant count all things i heard about him and that many times i witnessed. One time when i visited him he asked me if i was sexually attracted to animals and he tried to penetrate a cat in front of me. He said he had done it alot. And that he sometimes lost controll and just loved to scare the cats. He didnt hit them or make them bleed or anything. But im still sure trying to penetrate a cat, put it in bags and throw it around is considered animal cruelty?
    I always wondered how a kid could make himself do these things. And what the root of his actions is.

This video will help people who have been affected by undiagnosed family members with ODD and explain some things about their family dynamics and potentially how it has impacted their own mental health. The only REAL problem I have here is that he's just outed his kids mental health disorder and that really may come back to haunt his child and their relationship. I learnt a lot from this video, don't understand how ppl can judge so easily. Dr Ramani isn't "perfect" either. You can see sometimes how she moves her foot neurotically and so what? At some point we all try look better than we feel, especially in public. Always look at yourselves first, try to learn/benefit and not to judge others! Find narcissistic behavior in in yourself - almost everybody have some traits and it doesn't mean we have a disorder. It's always risky when doctor admits problems in his own family - some ppl will blame him but other might thrust him better. And one more think - what if the doctor wasn't handsome - would you be so willing to call him narcissist???

    I have ADHD and was diagnosed with adolescent antisocial personality disorder, but I think it was misdiagnosed ODD. I don't really meet the criteria for ASPD as I feel empathy, remorse, and the full spectrum of emotions. I don't bully or manipulate and would never let another person take the blame for something I did. I have a sense of morality, although it is based on being kind to others, not following laws and rules. Still, I have major issues with authority, and I see society as more of an evil than a good. i think my defiance came from a conscious decision I made to punish my mother for kicking my dad out of the house when I was 3 (He was cheating, but I couldn't understand that). I made up my mind to not be good anymore, and would refuse to do whatever she told me to do.

    The real reason children are not being accurately diagnosed…Most psychologists refuse to make a diagnosis before the age of 12. Even IF you are educated and 500% correct that there is a disorder, they will simply start with methylphenidate and say it’s ADD until the child is old enough to do an assessment. This is malpractice, imo, being an extremely unhealthy route of therapy. However, the majority of Psychologists/Psychiatrists all practice this placebo method and it gets swept under the rug! It was refreshing to hear somebody officially say the earlier it’s diagnosed the better💗

    All my red flags went off with this guest, towards covert narcissism and it is interesting that he made it all about himself, spoke about negative family influence, and spent a good minute kinda defending/ explaining himself.
    I was a foster kid, orphaned, and ODD was mentioned about me- even though I was being flat out abused, neglected, trafficked, along with many others- my abusers tried to label my reactions to the violent abuse and neglect as the issue, instead of the abuse.
    ODD is a diagnosis used by tyrannical, abusive, and or neglectful "experts" to control and label harmed children who cannot speak up about the abuse properly because they do not have the words, courage or knowledge to do so because of the nature of severe abuse and neglect.
    I was going to be a trauma counselor for kids like I used to be, but then I got to see the other side and realized that the kids aren't the issues in most cases:
    The "parents," families, teachers, authority figures and society are the problem.
    I believe only in a holistic, love based approach after removing the child from the abusive place/ people.. which almost never happens, and which motivated me to never join that system.

But i wanted to challenge your opinion that this man is one. Please be careful when calling people out because it takes a while before your body and mind feels safe and while that happens, you’ll see abuse everywhere you look. This is a NORMAL reaction to trauma. It happened to me and it happens to just about every person who has been a victim of abuse. Its okay that you are seeing red flags but i wanted to say that i do not and i am past the stage where i would see them on people that didn’t deserve it.

    This video does not explain anything about ODD. I don’t even know what it stands for.

    This is also a symptom of the Aspergers/Autism Spectrum Conditon child not coping.
    When are you going to cover Aspergers/Autism Spectrum Condition?

    Very professional, I loved this introduction and am looking forward to learning from you. Will definitely look at what you have to offer society. May God bless your family and bless you in your work.

      He bullshitted through the whole thing because he doesn't know what ODD is.

    All the people that are bashing this Dr apparently do not or have not ever had a child with ODD.. he makes perfect sense

    Talk therapy is a waste of money for kids with ODD. If they can tolerate it at all, they will very easily manipulate most therapists into seeing them as sweet and innocent, and nothing will be accomplished. A loving home life, and possibly meds, is what works best.

    First, MedCircle is really great and helpful. Second, I am glad that there's talk about these symptoms of anger, opposition and potential psychopathy because there are so many murders and breaking the law in America so this maybe dealing with the cause. Third, I wonder why people are irritated by this doctor who is a bit cocky but mainly honest like all others... he brought up an important issue... anger is not bad... and I thinkmthat children who are suppressing anger are potentially in danger for disorders more than children who express anger...
