I'm an interior designer, and your videos and the education on style parameters has changed the game in my designs. I've been able to take the information you've given me and utilize it in interiors to create spaces that emphasize the individual. It's helped me design in a way that makes the client look like they truly belong in their space. Thank you for helping me level up 🖤

the people want this content!! (it's me, I'm people) as someone currently building a wardrobe using Kibbe-essence-color analysis and also someone currently remodeling two homes, I really would love to hear more about the interior design aspect of incorporating these things. it is something I've been considering for my spaces, and actually it seems to come much more naturally to me than the personal style application, but I'd love to hear about it all from a pro.

This is so interesting! Have you found that that the interior style you like to live in kind of match your Kibbe id and/or essences? Because I’ve been thinking about this lately. So I’m a soft classic with possible classic, ingenue and natural essence, and the interior styles I’m drawn to seem to match up with my personal style preferences. As an example, I like mostly traditional style with some modern elements (classic), calm yet joyful colours like pastels, blues, pinks, greens (soft and ingenue?), with a relaxed, comfortable feel (natural). Have you noticed your clients are similar with their preferences?

    • @kayleemansfield2959
      @kayleemansfield2959 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Oh my goodness guys, thank you for your interest and I'm so sorry I'm just seeing this. It seems like you all are absolutely on the right track! I find that understanding Kibbe makes it easier to translate design preferences, especially when the client is not creatively inclined. It also adds clarification to design styles and expectations. I use essences to choose materials, textiles, color story, line, symmetry (or asymmetry). For example, I am heavily gamine, so I have a room in my home that is a 1960s mod style with bright neons, bold shapes, and asymmetry. However, if I were designing for someone with a natural essence I may choose a grasscloth look wall treatment with hardwood or bamboo floors, airy furniture shapes, and linen drapes. ☺️

Love this video and would love to be included in future one!
    Kibbe: Dramatic Classic
    Essence: Dramatic, Classic, Etherial
Personal style: 90s minimalism, YSL-chic, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy meets Kaia Gerber meets Prue from Charmed
Desired vibe: sophisticated, put together but effortless, enigmatic
    Season: clear spring
Lifestyle: I’m an art business student and I work at the gallery with elegant all-black dress code. In my free time I like to meet friends at cafés or bars, go to opera/museums, and do ballet. I live in Northern Europe, so most of my wardrobe is autumn-spring appropriate. I’m struggling to include colors in my wardrobe - maybe thats because I live in Scandinavia and most people here dress in all black 😄 I would also love to explore my ethereal essence in DC-appropriate way

I would love to see more on the Ethereal essence, it's interesting to me as I think there are lots of ways people can read as ethereal. Some have the classic otherworldly face and others maybe just have subtle elements in their face or expressions etc.
I also think there are sooooo many otherworldly or ethereal things, for example, you could look like classic Asian or middle eastern artwork of angel like beings or deities etc, but not the classic western versions. You could also look ethereal in a dark way, like a witch or a vampire that is very different from the soft delicate angelic version of ethereal.
There was a reddit post ages ago of someone working out like 8 or 9 types of ethereal and they typed a bunch of celebrities, it really made me think of the ethnocentric way we view 'ethereal' and any of the types/essences, especially when we look at the old versions of the kibbe type descriptions the one I always remember is that "gamines will have no exotic features apart from large eyes" ....As a half iranian soft gamine it really threw me. I have a classically middle eastern nose, but that doesnt make me any less gamine. In the same way, I think even if you have features that are very 'non-european' or quite striking I don't think that detracts from your overall ID and essence.
Sorry lol I will get down from my soap-box, I was just glad to see more inclusivity and nuance in your videos lol and also I love the editing decisions.

    Essences: Classic, Romantic, Natural
    Colour palette: Deep winter
    Rita's 4 quadrants: Right/Down
Wardrobe considerations: WFH so need a comfy look that's professional on camera. Creative field. Early 40s. Canadian, so wardrobe needs to be winter-friendly. I usually shop in petites section to find clothes that fit.

@@Gabriellearrudadesign Colour palette: ETA: I said Deep Winter as shorthand but the truth is I've never been able to quite find my palette in the seasonal system. I'm a very pale freckled redhead with cool pink-toned skin and green eyes, so definitely not typically what you'd think of for DW colouring, but in my experience, lighter and warmer shades wash me out and make me look sickly. One thing I've often struggled with is that many of the more yin-leaning recommendations for Soft Classic, Romantic, right/down in Rita's system, etc. are often these light pale pastels, which are some of the worst colours on me. Reconciling these two seemingly contradictory things is insanely hard!

    @kikirikiiiiiiiiii 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I love these videos, they’re so informative. I’d love to be considered for any future videos!
I am a dramatic classic with a deep autumn seasonal color palette. I’m still trying to figure out my essences, but I do believe I have some gamine and natural, and some ethereal reflected in smaller beauty choices like makeup and nails and jewelry.
I find it easy to put together outfits when it’s colder but always struggle in the summer to make outfits that feel comfortable enough to withstand the heat and are still different and stylish. I also struggle with my ID in that I find a lot of the styling tips and inspiration posts to be kind of boring or plain.
I’m 29, 5’7” and have a somewhat thin body with a straight torso, and can get a little pear-shaped when I gain weight.
I have a job in arts publishing and for the most part, I work from home but do occasionally go into the office. The dress code in my office is… there is none. Pretty much anything goes!
I value comfort as much as style and prefer to wear looser bottoms and balance it out with more fitted (but not constricting) tops.I don’t mind playing with different fabrics but have noticed that I prefer heavier-weight bottoms and can handle more variety with tops. I want to look put together, easygoing, and creative. I like dressing in a way that is stylish but still utilitarian. No frills, literally and figuratively.
My style influences are the 90s, street style, and a bit of y2k fashion. I’ve been loving some of the more sort of dorky looks Bella Hadid has been wearing occasionally. I love layering and creating interesting color stories with my garments but tend to keep a base of black even when using color.
I have quite long and curly 3C hair, but alternate between wearing it curly and wearing it straight. It falls around my lower back and I always wear it down with a center part. I don’t like hair accessories or hats because I’m prone to headaches. I don’t really like wearing much jewelry but do always wear earrings when leaving my apt.
I don’t like dainty or whimsical patterns like polka dots or any florals. I like stripes, grids, and plaid. I also like unique, all-over prints kind of like the kind found on some older cop.copine tops from the 90s. I also prefer pants over skirts, and only rarely wear dresses.

Non-negotiable: I always travel by bicycle and work a minimum wage job with lots of walking and work with food, so shoes should preferably be durable and hair should be up. I live in West-Europe which typically has a lot of drizzle going on, although it seems to get dryer in recent years. I have medium to light blonde long hair, dark blue eyes and my brows are darker compared to my hair color. I'm 24, 5"4/ 164cm and a soft hourglass.
I'm a life coach and my business runs online so I usually work from home. I love getting dressed up for myself though.
I like looking sophisticated and elegant, but approachable and relaxed with a bit of a sexy vibe. I don't like it when things look too stiff/ conservative.
I quite love Korean Fashion, both the more laid back as well as the more dressed up type and Dabagirl is the brand I find my style the most in.
My go to make up is a subtle brown winged liner and a bit of a red lip (sometimes bold but day-to-day just a bit tinted). I like wearing my hair open and with a slight wave, or in a nice high ponytail with my fringe out (I have see-through curtain bangs).
I prefer varying with texture over pattern (although a nice smaller floral, stripe or polka dot are welcome), I like a good bold ruffle and I'm a sucker for dress pants and midi skirts.

Love your analysis and advice! I think you could perfectly help me with mine as I still quite confused about my essence. I'm Clara Jiangtao, a 1.55 m classic kibbe type (doubting if dramatic or soft) who struggles with the lack of curves, although this may be because of the kind of distorted perception of my own body. Dark winter is my palette, although I love creamy and brown tones. I mostly feel that my essence rotates around natural, romantic or dramatic. It can be the three at the same time, who knows. Even though I have my doubts, I can make for sure I'm not ingenue. I've always have a preference for black clothes and maybe a bit of color from denim or small details or pieces; my references and inspiration are goth/alternative fashion, harajuku and asian street fashion. Looking for cute but mature, and also a bit intimidating vibes . Also, I study Fine Arts so I'm constantly involved with paint and all that stuff; I don't mind wearing a more practical and relaxed look. Thanks so much for making such helpful content!🖤

I also like nerd or academic chic quite a bit. I am trying to figure out how to have my gamine essence but not break up the vertical too much. Tailored and structure are not actually counter to movement. Most people need to get their clothing actually tailored, and they don't know how to buy clothes that really fit them well. Movement in dance with tailoring is easily accomplished if you buy the right clothing and get it tailored to fit your body dimensions. For example, I REALLY struggled with finding white work wear button downs because my shoulders are a size 14 in most womens' blouses, but I buy size 8 tops when they're sleeveless because my waist is so small. The solution is mens' wear button downs, tailored significantly in the middle. You just have to know how to buy the right size for you, and sometimes it takes a lot of shopping to find brands that use proportions for your body. Bright side you can find a brand and they will appreciate that loyalty when you do figure it out. So for example, I have to buy a size 10 in St John's jackets, but they tend to fit really well, or I am a size 12 in jackets from Piazza Sempione. Whereas I cannot even buy jackets from Akris because their garments are just not made for an extreme hourglass figure, they're made for boxier long slim torsos. My favorite leather jacket is a men's slim fit small from Rag & Bone. It's all trial and error.

I'm theatrical romantic with bright (or deep?) winter palette, I don't know my essences but I like the classic one, I really like minimal and modest styles, I take my inspiration from korean and japanese styling channels and I love jennifer lawrence's glam and recent paparazzi outfits simple but expensive (she's a fashion icon in the japanese community too btw). Meet Charlotte - City girl goes Small town ... small village, actually
    Charlotte
    Definitely a Dramatic Classic
With dramatic/ ingenue / classic and maybe a little bit of ethereal essence
    Light Spring
Personal Style: Y2k, bright colours, clean lines
Vibe: Strong, weird, but yet professional (for work)/ trustworthy (off work, being accepted by the village community), fashiony
Style Inspo: Margot Tenenbaum, Sex & the City
Don'ts: Can't layer to much, since I'm constantly feeling hot. No garments, that require a traditional bra.
Bonus: Likes to incorporate punk elements in her styling, since she hasn't forgotten were she comes from (Punk/ Alternative background)
Charlotte would like to understand how to find the right balance of her personal style and looking profesh/ trustworthy.
She sometimes feels out of place, if she dresses in her favorite outfits at work (smalltown boutique with custumer service) or not like her self, when she dresses too basic on the other hand (Ugh! Not an other boring button up!). She also needs very comfy shoes, since she stands all day long, no sitting down, except for breaks.
If she is doing chores, gardening and taking care of her farm animals (lives in a village), she struggles with either looking like Paris trying the Simple Life (too fashiony and non functional) or - again - blending too much with the surroundings and loosing her personality.
Dear Gabrielle: If you would only cater to some of my points, I would anoy the hell out of my friends by sharing your video, happily explaining why your topics are part of my special interests!

This is so much fun to watch! It's like the outfit version of making a mixtape for someone! Not sure if you're still taking real examples to add to your list for future videos, but just in case...
    - Romantic (Kibbe)
    - Hourglass
    - Mid size to plus size
    - Main three essences: ethereal, ingenue, romantic (in fairly equal amounts)
    - Soft Summer
    - Style keywords: earthy, imaginative, gentle, free-spirited
    - I'm still working on my personal style map but so far it's just pictures of fictional characters who are style inspirations to me, including Jackie from That '70s Show, Lucy from A Room With A View, Chuck from Pushing Daisies, Alexis from Schitt's Creek, Molly from Uptown Girls, and Mandella from 10 Things I Hate About You.
    - I want to look interesting, fun, and feminine, but still feel as comfortable as possible. I mostly get around by bus and on foot, so shoes can't be too impractical. The climate where I live is subtropical.
    - I think my biggest struggle is in choosing the details to complete a look, especially when it comes to shoes, hair, and makeup. I have really fine hair (but a thick head of it) that is difficult to style, and I have sensitive eyes and skin so need to keep any makeup as minimal as possible.
    - I'd love to see an outfit that is casual and comfy enough to wear around the house but can quickly be done up a little for going out during the day.

Thank you so much for this video! I felt my cheeks turning pink when I saw my style parameters up there. And yes, you're right about structure vs. movement--I'd probably modify this now to "looks tailored, but allows for a body in motion underneath" (á la Fred Astaire). Funny you should mention a femme fatale hairdo, since I have indeed been trying to grow out my hair from a (curly) short cut for a while. And I love the look here. Again, thank you so much!
(Note: "Tailored look that allows for a body in motion" is definitely a big part of why I love boiler suits so much. One-piece dressing plus a sharp visual plus wearing ease is extremely my cuppa.)

      @Crewelperleology 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

A few years ago, in an interview about her clothing line, Jessica Simspon spoke about her consideration for structure around the shoulder area, but found a way to allow the fabric to have some extra stretch/or give in the area, allowing more freedom of movement. Mabye that is achieved by cutting on the bias? That might have been more commonly found in prêt a porter clothing years and years ago, in the same way that lining was expected to be found in blazers.

      @Gabriellearrudadesign  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes to boiler suits, those are amazing!! And maybe it's about tailoring and paying attention to fabric weights. A lighter fabric or less internal structure within a garment can allow for movement. As can a less fitted shape (like with the built in ease in a boiler suit). Love the Fred Astaire idea! Thank you soo much for submitting your style parameters!

    • @AngryTheatreMaker
      @AngryTheatreMaker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Gabriellearrudadesign Of course, of course. Fred Astaire has been one of my style inspirations for years--gamin busyness of his casual wear aside, his priority as a dancer was the line and the wearing ease. (He extended this care and attention to his dancing partners as well. Love that.)
It's interesting you bring up unfitted shapes, simplified internal structure, and fabric weights. Two of my recent inspirations, Isadora Duncan and Martha Graham, would agree with you. (Eighty percent of the time I ask myself "Could I dance in this?".)
Hurrah for boiler suits! I have been eyeballing the possibility of a tuxedo-flavored boiler suit in midnight blue. My main gripe about this: Midnight blue either ain't the current fashion or it's simply too expensive.

    Flamboyant natural
    Main profession:writer
    Coloring:soft summer
    Essence: ethereal, ingenue
I have a changeling face. Androgyn looking, tending a little bit more on the feminine side, but somehow this depends on facial expression. People guessing my age name everything from 12 to 30. Actually 22
I want to look feminine. But also ride my bike everyday and go on bike trips. I want to wear very functional clothing fabric like merinowool moist wicking wrinkle free, fast drying stuff only. Because I have severe inattentive Adhd I will not iron. Better not buy stuff I need to iron.
But I really badly want to be a beautiful féminine flower on a bike. Want to ride a bike on a skirt and don't know which length is ideal. Victorian lady's did it too!!?
I already saw that there are bike helmets that look Ike straw hats, that I will definitely buy and wear.
Strawhat on Amsterdam e-bike with straw basket and flowers on basket.
I want to wear only purple clothing. And flat green shoes. Either Giesswein Merino sneakers or tefla.
I also need to wear wide brimmed hats and be covered very modestly because of religion and sun allergy.
Hat and bag can be green too. Or purple. But shoes must be green always and clothing always purple.
    No patterns. 💜💚💜💜💜💚💜
I am very conflicted because color wise I know exactly what I want. Which exact shades. Lavender! And teal! Yes I consider it kinda green:) But not the light teal that is turquoise and has no Grey value. This one I hate. The misty green leaning into blue. And forest greens, also misty are good too. Nothing yellowish green. It must have agrey value and be a mysterious color.
But shape of clothing is a disaster!
How on earth can I look féminine in flat Tefla shoes? And how can I have a skirt length that isn't showing my panties and is rideable on a bike, not killing me by getting stuck in the wheels?
Maybe skorts or a leggings with a short skirt?
Best to cover my legs, so I don't have to cream this big batch of skin every hour too, when outside.
I just wouldn't like bare leggings or biking leggings, because you can kinda see the underwear and it is not modest enough.
Actually, gloves would be great. Then I don't have to cream the back of my hands so much. This could be ladylike.
And I really would love the eccentric dandy classyness.
    💚💜💚💜💜💜

I've added it to the list, but ultimately I think you already know what you want your style to be. And now its just about merging with your lifestyle needs (biking etc). I would slowly start buying the items you listed and testing them with your everyday life. i'm sure there is a way to merge lady like and colors with biking. I personally think flat shoes can be very feminine. And in regards to the skirt length, it may depend on the silhouette of the skirt. A wider skirt can be knotted up while you bike rise so it covers you but is out of the way. If its a more fitted skirt it would have to be shorter. Experimentation will be key

Hey I'm a bright spring, theatrical Romantic, and ethereal classic essence. For some reason my current wardrobe is very masculine and oversized and I just look like a slob. I'd love to be seen as friendly, womanly, and elf like. I'm currently obsessed with cottage core, renaissance attire, and 40s waves but have nothing like that in my closet anymore. I'm a stay at home mom who wants to feel confident and comfortable in my clothes. I'm a big advocate for natural beauty and fabrics so heels/makeup/and synthetics are out for me. I give hippie vibes with also unapproachable grunge type masculinity, but I'm very shy and have a soft voice. I kinda hate showing side boob and I loathe the feel of high waisted things (which makes the waist definition harder) and I don't want to feel squeezed after I eat or when I take a deep breath with like a belt or elastic or a tie. For some reason I choose black even though it's unflattering on me. I don't wear jewelry (although I'm not opposed to rings and earrings and maybe a necklace) and I only choose zero drop barefoot type shoes. I love the feel of wide leg pants and unrestricted movement, but not so much the look (maybe skirts or dresses are more me 🤷‍♀️). I also don't carry a purse, I prefer pockets. I wear prescription glasses. Help!

    I'm 5'6, flamboyant natural.
essence: natural and romantic, but i’m not sure.
colors: soft autum with warm olive undertone.
I want to be percieved as chic, strong, sensual/sexy and put-together. I’d like to express sensuality within natural lines and vibes. I like assimetry, open back, silts, drapes.
I dont like to look girly, but mature.
Like warm muted colors, earthy, nudes. I like either minimal or bold detail. I was thinking of trying sobre heavier fabrics. Maybe I’m screwing this but I’d love to all this would speak with the actual trend of urban sport cool-chic in my weekday outfits (for example snickers, urban coats, etc).
I’d like to see how to build a going out to a party outfit. And also I have a hard time dressing for work, a little bit chic but without having to be super formal.
girl, ive made a map, how can I send it to you? in case you need it :))

    For your running list:):
Now, I think I have a pretty good hold on how to dress myself (really, it's mostly instincts and learnings I had long before I got interested in Kibbie and essences), but I'd love to see what you'd propose for me for work (buisness casual, but definitely no jeans).
I am a SD with an hourglass figure, size 12 so I'm not exactly plus-size, but I have some bust to accomodate.
I am true autumn and have a pretty large contrast (very light skin, brown hair).
My essences are romantic, dramatic and a touch of classic.
I want to appear professional and polished, somewhat feminine, but definitely not sexy, with a bold and creative touch.
I walk a pretty large distance and then take a long train ride for the commute, so the outfit needs to allow for that. Shoes have to be very comfortable but not sporty at all, and I need to have arm mobility after I put my coat and laptop backpack on.
Aaaa, and I work in a male-dominated environment, so we need to be reasonably modest.

Yes, I definitely do. Those just happen to be what I had in my wardrobe that fit the gamine essence. I plan to do an in-depth gamine essence video as well.

Girl please I have a question: as a curvy theatrical romantic, I feel horrified by kibbes pants recommendations, the capri pants makes me bigger and shorter and stylewise they look tacky and outdated on my opinion, even a little silly. Can you please recoomend something alongating while still flattering? 😭😭😭😭😭😭

I think I'm a dramatic classic and a lot of suggestions I see online involve blazers, straight lines, casual business, etc., I really don't like blazers or that classic style. I think my essence is natural + ingenue. I like comfort, florals, cardigans, and 'safari-core'. I'm either a soft summer or a soft autumn. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

So I don't do official typings because Kibbe still does them himself and I feel it would be overstepping. But if you want to email me (my email is in the description) I can help point you in the right direction

    Kate
    might be soft classic
ingenue, classic, (maybe natural or romantic) (not sure what order)
no idea what color type, but only wears pastels and black and white, loves baby blue
mysterious, fashionable, interesting (hates anything gamine)
likes 60s and grunge, and fashion in clueless and princess diaries
student, but cares more about looks than comfort

Hi, if you could add me in your running list, I would love!
I'm a soft dramatic, deep winter and my essences are in this order
    Romantic, ingenue and natural
My essence board has a lot of flowers, velvet and silk, some vibrant colors, red dresses, red lipsticks, some shiny white dresses, a cottagecore vibe, also some soft pinks, a lots of sweets, pies and books! Marilyn Monroe and Ariana grande.( If you want to I can email it to you ;) )
I'm a student, I like comfortable but also like to dress up when going out with family and friends, so I wouldn't mind some constricted clothes! I like clothes that are a little tight but that cover me and sometimes a little cleavage or legs!
My style goals are to be seen, also give more of an fun, sweet, sexy, chic, friendly vibe!
Thank fou for your work on this! Is really helpful and I love it! And also you are very funny 😊

It might get lost in the inter webs, or be waaaay too specific but a girl can dream! I’m a bright winter Theatrical Romantic, natural and romantic essences, inspired by 90s Sandra Bullock and (imagined) vacations in southern France. A challenge for me is I’m Indigenous (Native American) and I like to wear a lot of beaded pieces, which don’t necessarily go in a literal sense with my Kibbe or Kitchener in a literal sense. Any thoughts on how to incorporate traditional or cultural pieces? 🤞

Loving these videos! Not 100% sure my stats, but think I am soft classic kibbe with deep winter color and ethereal essence (w/maybe some classic and natural ?) Basically I want to be a comfortable and functional elven princess 🧝‍♀️ 😂
I'm a professional musician (violinist), so I always need functional all-black dressy outfits for performances, and then comfortable teaching outfits for giving music lessons. Love to see new ideas!
