      Yeah that might be one of my favorite Soderbergh movies ever. I saw that in the theaters in 1999. It's a masterpiece, the way it plays with non-linier time, and Luis could not be better in that movie along with the rest of his costars. Also gave Terence Stamp a second wind. He's still killing it, he was great in Edgar Wright's Last Night In Soho (2022). But man yeah this one definitely needs to be Criterionized.

    • @thevoid99
      @thevoid99 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      i cried too during the brando story. the fact that brando complemented him is better than any award. plus, he's one of those actors where you can put him in an awful film but he's going to be the best thing in it. plus, i loved that story he did when he did "carlito's way" where it was early in the production and things were tense. de palma was like getting everyone ready to hit their mark and he told luis to do his mark and luis replied "brian, i don't act. i just do it" de palma laughs and then says what he said before with "and luis is just going to do it" as the production got more relaxed since.

    Nice to see Mr Guzman in criterion episode. I always like him for the films I watched him in and he seems to be very warm and nice human being.

So, he definitely would have been well aware of Guzmán from the latter's excellent supporting turn in that film.

Met him briefly when he was filming the movie 'Nothing like The Holidays' here in Chicago. Didn't get to talk. Just a hello and a handshake. But he was genuine. I'm so glad that Criterion was able to get this BD version out, since I have no idea how else I would've ever seen this movie. I do not want to spoil any aspect of it, in case people out there want to see it, but I will say that 1) this movie is incredibly well made, especially considering the cost, and how quickly they shot it, and 2) I was surprised over and over during the movie by how many familiar actors were in it. Thank you Sir. Thank you for the performances you have given to everyone and the joy we have from that. Thank you again for being so incredibly passionate about film. It's so endearing and makes me feel so much better that others feel so much and get so much out of film. Thank you brother. Thank you

    Growing up Luis Guzman was an inspiration to me! Hearing his takes on the films that fueled his passion for acting and film was a wonderful experience. And the Brando story is so heartwarming 🥹

    Was just explaining to my kids what a great actor Luis Guzmán is and some of the great films he’s been in. Love to see two of my own father’s favorites on his list - 12 Angry Men and On The Waterfront. Both featuring the great Lee J. Cobb. I can still hear my dad doing one of his favorite lines from Waterfront - “Hey, Friendly! John Friendly…!” Touching stuff. Thanks for all the great work through the years, Luis!

    Mr. Guzman, your an authentic and talented dude. One of my favorite performances of yours was in Boogie Nights. You slayed it. Thx for sharing your pics and story about Brando. Beautiful.

    Punch-drunk Love is one if my favorite films of all time. I had seen a few PTA movies at that point, but everything about that movie was special to me. It was the first time I really saw Luis' performance, and after that, I was excited every time I saw his name on the cast list.

    Waterfront’s got one of the greatest opening scores. Every time I hear those drums rumble up, gets my adrenaline going.
