  • If you know the name Toughbook, you probably think of it as the beefy laptop for construction sites, cop cars, and military bases. I expected more of the same when I was invited to preview Panasonic’s latest Toughbook at a press event in Boston; what I didn’t expect was a computer that could become almost any kind of PC I wanted, with the click of a mod. Join me for a look at Panasonic's new rugged modular laptop in MrMobile's Toughbook 55 Review!

      Need is questionable. Some people might benefit but plenty of others would quite literally be weighed down by the extra tonnage for ports and features that have long since become obscure in the consumer space. In truth an SD card reader and USB-A port alongside the now prevalent thunderbolt/ and basic USB-C ports is probably all the extra oomph most people would genuinely appreciate. But VGA ports and disc drives? That’s not really something relevant in 2019 for most people not working in very specific environments which require them due to legacy equipment.

    • @BigTylt
      @BigTylt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I mean, I don't see the average user caring about a modular fingerprint sensor or external GPU as long as they can check their email and Twitter. Maybe the long battery life would appeal to people, but swappable batteries are already a thing, even during the curse of the super-light and super-thin Ultrabook.

    • @ayopiop2392
      @ayopiop2392 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@BigTylt yeah, a lot of people just dont want to think about a computer after they purchase it. They just want it to work. I wish more people bought into the idea of making your computer better through modular instead of favoring the convenience of buying a computer and not worrying about how to improve it.

      @@bradhaines3142 oh if I was able to switch the gpu to a better Version + give it some more ram (ddr2 only supports 2gb ram chips and I only have two, not sure if ddr2 would even support more than 4gb), I think I would use this one as my main Laptop for the next ten years...
      So I bought myself a new one. I still use the old one tho, I just love it too much (also the new one has a new ryzen 7 cpu, and has a buggy bios firmware which makes it exponentially harder to install Linux!)

      Precisely. It's the one turn off, but a big one. I've been trying to find ThinkPad alternatives since Lenovo is pissing away the brand, but it seems this won't be it.

    • @mwbgaming28
      @mwbgaming28 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AcidTripwire my main problem is battery life, either give me a removable battery or give me an internal battery that can get through a MINIMUM of 3 hours of gaming (full brightness, high performance mode)
      if I can find laptop battery programming software, I would make a shitload of money making aftermarket battery packs that replace the bottom of the chassis, imagine a Razer blade pro with 12h of gaming endurance and enough cooling that it NEVER throttle, even under synthetic loads

    • @AcidTripwire
      @AcidTripwire 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mwbgaming28 I bought a ThinkPad e460 a few years ago and let me tell you, I've completely regretted it. The only thing it has going for it is the above-average keyboard - the screen is dogshit, the (built in) battery is absolute dogshit, the build quality is subpar. Doesn't really deserve the ThinkPad label. Seems from looking around that my only option right now is upgrading to one of the T-series

    • @mwbgaming28
      @mwbgaming28 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AcidTripwire even with the T-Series of ThinkPads I wouldn't go beyond the T440, the T420/T420S has the best keyboard of them all and is probably the best "all rounder" of the bunch if you want to keep that legendary ThinkPad build quality And modularity
