Add-a-ron-dack is how you pronounce the name of the chairs that originated, I believe. From New York for the mountain range by the same name. Love your hedgehog opening, so cute
From the Adirondack mountain “camps” in New York, back in the age of the Astors. The wealthy from NYC would train out to the mountains and woods of the Adirondack mountains for vacations.
Catherine it's all looking amazing but I did have to think is she really going to sit and enjoy the garden because that's what I try to do but after looking at garden for 5 mins I'm like oh I should do this and that so am always pottering, sure my neighbours must get sick of my flip-flops clipping and clopping up and down the garden, I defo get some steps in out there 🤣🤣🤣
I planted hostas and elephant ears in a circle around my walnut tree. I planted 4 tomato plants, 2 foxglove, 2 bleeding hearts, 1 lily, I hydrangea bush, 2 geraniums and an elephant ear in my container.
@@kandyharris2195 well , when it fills in, it should be amazing. I divided 2 hostas one striped, one solid. I did striped, then 3 solid, for 4 sets around the tree. Inner circle I did the elephant ears staggered in between each hosta.
Love the chairs can't wait to see the painted version. I always prepare the backyard for a local garden tour and then never really go outside to enjoy it. This year I plan on doing the same, book, wine instead of tea, sit and enjoy the work I did.
Ahhhhh Catherine, we are kindred spirits! The sound of the wind rustling through the leaves is such a special sound!! It just makes the soul happy!! Your new outdoor reading nook will be lovely and I can’t wait to see it! Hugs!! Tina ❤️🥰😍
Ad-i-ron-dack chairs were used in New York state in USA , in the Adirondack mountains for log lodge style clinics/ healing retreats which helped people with fresh mountain air when people had tuberculosis lung disease.
My hedgehogs would love your hedgehog hole in your door, you just put in. How clever you are, to put one in that door for them. That's what I've grown to love about you. You're so thoughtful, & sweet. We have similar ways, & likes. What a cute wee little house, & door. I can't wait to see the colors you will paint all the thing's you got. Those wooden chairs, & the wee little door with shamrocks. The gnome's, fairy's, pixie's, & brownies will feel more at home with things all about, that are their own size. Thanks to you, I am inspired to do my own yard too. So funny that this happened, get this. I mentioned how I've always wanted a white Bleeding heart plant to my neighbor. So guess what. She saw one in her travel's. She gave it to me. How nice of her. I was so happy. I too have been planting Petunias, Pansy's, & Marigold's. Thanks for inspiring me. Love you.
Oh pink you definitely have to paint your furniture a pink colour. 💗 then paint some cute symbols in metallic gold on the furniture. Maybe shamrocks, hearts, butterflies...
😇💜 Hi Catherine and Blonde 🐈, How CUTE is the lil hedgehog 🦔 Entrance, as well as seeing Blonde 🐈 using the entrance LOL 🤭 I L 💜 VE the new outdoor chairs, and they do look comfy.🤗💜 Thank YOU for sharing, and as always I APPRECIATE YOU, and I look forward to seeing your next video.🤗💜💜💜
I do not know the history behind those chairs but my brother in-law also makes it and they are so comphy. It's going to look smart in that corner of your garden. Aaaah the hedgehog 🦔 opening is so sweet.he can even fit into the fairy house🤭
The Dollar stores have fairy/gnome figurines plus accessories.... so I bought a bunch of them, and my grandchildren made a fairy garden. I put down white rocks, and they arranged the pieces on top. At the end of the summer, I take the pieces up and save them for the next summer! PS I also buy the clear, colored glass pieces that come in a bag from Dollar Tree. These are sprinkled about and catch the sun so beautifully!
Add a ron dack chairs…that’s how you pronounce it. Lovely. I totally agree with La Barbara about if I were a hedgehog I would bring the whole crew with me! Stay well 🙏🏻💜😉🌸💐🌼🌻🌺💚🌷
That hedgehog hole is the CUUUUUTESSST thing I have ever seen 😍😍😍 Also: A-di-RON-dack. In Canada, most of us call em Muskoka (mus-KOW-kuh) chairs, named for a popular cottage. region.
Ad-er-Ron-rack chairs. That is a mountain range in the East of USA. They were made for vacationers to relax in while looking at the views. We find them everywhere now.
The bleeding heart is a lovely flowering plant...but it grows very deep roots...like 10 ft long beneath ground...so you want to keep it far away from your house foundation or sewer drainage lines. I dint know this and the roots pushed into my crawlspace!
You inspire me....thanks for sharing. Love the hedgehog hole. I was especially impressed with how you just removed and replaced that large door. Watching from Jamaica. 👍
Well at least you left the garden centre with actual plants, be it pond or otherwise. First time I took my other half to a garden centre, we came home with...a rabbit...an indoor cage...food...hay...treats...water bottles...and anything else remotely rabbit related. That was 12 years ago and he still remains the most spoilt, costly pet I've ever known😂 Old Victor Meldrew I call him!! Stamps his feet when he's not amused😂 and to think, all I wanted was a clematis🤣🤭😜
Adirondack chair.... oil based staining will last much longer.... try a grey white aged look... YUM! It will go great with all your colors. Never chip like paint. Lasts much longer.
Adder-RON-DAK chairs were apparently (according to Google) first made by Thomas Lee in 1903 for his Westport New York cottage. Your hedgehog door is super duper adorable!
The Adirondack chairs originated in New York State and are named after the Adirondack Mountains. The emphasis is on the "ron" syllable. They are comfy chairs. I had a friend who had a few too many drinks one weekend and he had a heck of a time getting out of them. Never laughed so hard in my life. I love all your new plants. So pretty. I'd love to put in a pond, but that will have to wait for next year. This year I'm tripling the size of my herb garden. The smells are amazing! I LOVE your hedgehog door!!! That is the cutest thing ever.
I'm starting to think Irelands moved away to find the warmer weather, we in England are having a second winter, it's rained a lot and cold. I love the chairs btw.
I would paint the chairs a different color each a light green for one, and a mustard yellow for the other, they will be so cute.....heck you can even paint some daises and other cute flowers on the chairs as well.
In the city that I come from (Minneapolis, MN) there are many lakes that have parks and walking/biking paths around them and years ago someone put a tiny door to cover the hole under a tree along one of these paths. Apparently, children write little notes and bring gifts and put them inside the door and then an anonymous elf writes them back in teeny tiny little script. I have seen the door, but it had a lock when I saw it...in winter the elf has different accomodation.
Love this! And in case you haven’t already, put a little sloped area at one end of the pond, just in case any prickly visitors go for an unintended dip!
I was hulling strawberries from my garden and watching this video. I'll have enough to eat and some to freeze for winter. Your garden is coming along. One thing to keep in mind is perrenials grow and need dividing in about 3 years so you'll have a garden full to the brim in no time.
Thank you for such lovely vlogs. I love it! We hosted the Irish football team here in Armenia this week. Apologies for the one goal win against them. Great to have the Irish spirit here even if for only 2 days. Blessings from Armenia!
Adirondack Chairs (Add-ir-on-dack) are named after the Adirondack mountains in upstate New York. Canadians call them Muskoka chairs after a cottage region in Ontario.
This chair was created in 1903 by Thomas Lee. He wanted to create what he termed the “perfect outdoor chair” for his lake house at Lake Champlain. The reason the seat of the Adirondack chair is slanted is to accommodate for the uneven terrain in that area.
Muskoka chairs are very similar to the Adirondack chairs, Muskoka chairs have a rounded top, and these are Canadian. The chairs you bought are Muskoka chairs, and it's a quintessential Canadian sign of summer. They are extremely popular; I have two myself. The Adirondack chair is very similar, and it's American. The main difference is that the backs are 2 inches taller and have a straight back top vs the rounded top of the Muskoka one. PS. I stained mine ( about 14 yrs ago), and the colour was called Antique.
Love how Blondie tested the hedgehog doorway lol, she’s a brilliant supervisor Catherine lol, more gorgeous plants, l remember having chocolate cosmos and it did smell like chocolate, love the chairs and can’t wait to see the seating area being created, tfs sweetheart x Julie
I loved this Vlog . You make things so easy to do . I love the idea of your Hedgehog gate. Blondie can get in and out easier now. 🦔 All the plants 🪴🌺🌷you chosose looked lovely colours together in the wheelbarrow. Your pond is going to look fab when you get a few more plants around it . Well Done you !
The Adirondack chairs are from Northern NY state. They were used by the wealthy camp owners in the Adirondack Mountains and in the camps for the tuberculosis patients many years ago. That’s where I live. 😉
I made a new scratching post for my cat. She seems pleased with it. I started a little pond garden. The Water Lily should arrive in a couple of days. I've had strawberries, cucumbers, zucchini and yellow squash from the garden, and the tomatoes are loaded. I love all your little projects. Blondie seemed content with her little door ha,! 🌺❤🌺
Adirondack (Add-ih-Ron-dak) chairs come from the Adirondack mountains, which is a mountain range in Northeastern New York. They are a super common chair throughout New England.
Your enthusiasm for your plants and garden always make me smile. You have created a delightful backyard. Found your channel recently and catching up on all the gardening videos.
I think the chairs would look nice painted with a pop of color. Maybe pink or periwinkle blue would be pretty or you could stain it a color instead of just brown.
It’s always a pleasure to watch your videos. We in Australia, are in our winter, though nowadays fairly mild in the northern end to what it used to be. I’ve been busy repotting and planting out pelargoniums, impatiens and verbena currently. I have to tackle my pond next to give it a tidy up and make a shade cover for it, as the sun gets too hot in summer for the fish and it makes algae grow. I built my own bog filter for it and am pleased with myself over that. Not bad for an old incapacitated biddy . 😆
Hi from Pennsylvania, USA. My garden excitement this weekend was my first grown-from-seed purple Hungarian poppy blooming! The flower is as big as my hand 💜
I am hoping to stop after work today to get some coleus and alternanthera for some container pots that I have on my deck. The rain may put a halt to that though. 🌧
I have one chair like your new ones... I painted it white. Looks really good. I have done nothing in my garden this week as winter is really here, so cold, rainy, windy. But my jonquils are up, and flowering, and look so cheerful. Your garden is beautiful, and you are right, you need a comfy place to relax and enjoy your hard work.
I'm always surprised at how much more your garden has grown during one week. Quite honestly , it is more attractive to me than all those perfect ones. Thought that Adirondak chairs originatedin the Adirondak mountain range in the USA.
Just thinking about the Adirondack chairs, I think the movie Dirty Dancing is set in the time when the wealthy would travel there. Love you have hedgehogs, and the hedgehogs you added to the door. Your pond is coming right along too, look forward to seeing it over summer.
I would love to see you do a travel with me series around Ireland! For those of us in the US that probably can’t get there for a visit. I would love that.
Your garden is gorgeous Catherine. Here in New Zealand we also call those chairs ‘Cape Cod’ chairs and invariably they are painted in bright blues or whites (Hampton style). They can be around $80 to buy ‘Cape Cod’ but seem to be double or triple that amount if it’s called ‘Adirondack’! 🤔😅🥰
Great new chairs. Well known here in the states to be comfy. People often paint them a color to go with the garden. A pretty green might be nice, or as you say to match the greenhouse, and a couple floral cushions. Yes, I bought some more plants yesterday, though I still have loads of seedlings I grew to get planted! Impatient plugs, a lambsear, sweet woodruff, blue salvia, a pepper plant for the vegtable garden, and bulbs. It is raining, so no gardening today! Love the hedgehog door. New subscriber, enjoying watching.
Ohh my gosh that little fairy cottage is adorable. Contrast to the shed colour for the chairs. All looking good though. I have found that Heuchera are addictive, there are so many varieties. I bought Blueberries and the makings of a mesh house to protect their fruits from the birds, also picked up a tray of cauliflower which i have shoved in with them due to time constraints...not sure if they will love the acidity though. I need to stay away from the Plant Nursery as I spent a small country’s gdp in there. In my mind that means I will focus attention in the reclamation yard. X
Add-ah-ron-dak Yes, you are correct...named after mountain range in NY. They are just beautiful! Can't wait to see your seating area update! Enjoy your gardening journey and I pray many blessings over you and yours!
If i was a hedgehog🦔, i would bring all my friends and family with me to enjoy your beautiful garden 🌺🌷⚘🌻🏵🌸🌱🪴🌾🍀❤🥰
😂🦔🦔🦔 love it! The more the merrier
"Comparison is the thief of joy." I love that. Can't wait to see what you do with your seating area.
Add-a-ron-dack is how you pronounce the name of the chairs that originated, I believe. From New York for the mountain range by the same name. Love your hedgehog opening, so cute
Yep. As a former New Yorker from the Adirondack's, that's exactly how you say it, but perhaps more 'dack' then 'deck'.
I always hear Add-A-Ron-DAck Adirondack like the Mts.
In Michigan we pronounce it “Add-ER-on-dack”. Your garden is really shaping up. 🌺🌸🌼🌻🪷🌹🌷💐Beautiful flowers!
From the Adirondack mountain “camps” in New York, back in the age of the Astors. The wealthy from NYC would train out to the mountains and woods of the Adirondack mountains for vacations.

Traditionally, they are painted, not stained. Love everything here, as usual, love!
Love the chairs can't wait to see the painted version. I always prepare the backyard for a local garden tour and then never really go outside to enjoy it. This year I plan on doing the same, book, wine instead of tea, sit and enjoy the work I did.

Add-uh-ron-dack chairs 😊 I LOVE the natural wood! Maybe just stain them to protect the natural wood. They match your flowerbeds. 🥰
Glad to hear your planning to relax in your garden. Take time to enjoy the beauty you have created❤️✨

I need to stay away from the Plant Nursery as I spent a small country’s gdp in there. In my mind that means I will focus attention in the reclamation yard. X
I think the magpies are kicking off because Blondie is there, they do it in our garden too, when our cat Benny is out
