    This is what exactly happened as its explained by NDTV reporter and its simply because of the imperfection in road construction. A year back my father's accident happened also due to such bad highway construction and it happened on NH2 while he was driving from Kolkata to Dhanbad. Although the car was completely mangled and had head-on collision with a truck and the car jumped on the divider, but my father was saved and was completely unhurt due to God's immense grace. The car was not a Mercedes or BMW, it was Maruti 800 which had no air bag at all. Later on, I investigated why that accident happened and how, and I found that it was not only the incomplete and imperfect construction done by the road contractors but also the lack of supervision of safety measures, police and government negligence and people's carelessness about the highway rules. Ultimately it is to point out to the government officials because they are the people who are responsible for better road construction and maintenance and they are in the power position to make any changes. Tolls are taken from each vehicle on national highways but that money is not properly used for making the indian highways safe. Such kinds of imperfection in highway making is huge throughout India. Even if we take up two national highways for instance, we will find immense of instances. Only between Kolkata and Dhanbad, one may find many of such types of foul constructions invoking severe accidents. But still, we don't stop from showing our pride. Well, not wearing seat belts by the rear passengers in this case, is of course a big mistake made by the passengers for which they paid the price losing their lives but what about the loss that the economy of the country suffered from and what about the callousness in the road construction and supervision? There is no system in the transport ministry that can take people's advice or suggestions into their knowledge and work upon it. Being a highway driver for last 30 years, I feel helpless as I can't bring the imperfection in road highways to any official's notice. I always remember one thumb rule while driving on Indian roads. Whatever the make of your car is, never exceed the speed limit of 80kmph because this is India.

    Last year I also faced same type of accident with my car on Haryana Delhi outer ring road, same rainy season. traveling alone from Mumbai to Jalandhar, I was on first lane with 120-130 speed, and suddenly first lane ends and road divider started and I banged on divider. My good luck was that divider height is less than 1 ft and my SUV (Mitsubishi Outlander) hit the divider but due to low divider my car jumped. ABS applied and car landed on divider from center and I am alive today. Roads in India are not reliable for 1st and 3rd lane, yes you can drive in center lane peacefully, it is slow but safe. its a bad civil engineering example and India lost one big industrialist just because of bad road engineering. Important message in this accident to all, seat belts is not for avoiding challan, it is for life safety.

But you seem to be totally unaware that it is primarily NHAI who as owners of these assets are responsible for proper design, signs and markings, and overall safe operating conditions for the traffic. I have known Dr. Pandole personally as my doctor and I can say that she is truly someone you can trust your life with. The biggest culprit here in this tragedy is the lack of proper signage. There should have been a signage that said "roads merging ahead." Overspeeding wasn't a factor because on highways you are expected to drive at higher speeds. (100 km/hr). It was an accident waiting to happen.

    I would add that despite all the road conditions one must agree the one who was driving was driving recklessly lacs proficiency in negotiating high speed and such impediments.
    Obviously Speed Limit is not honoured .
    There is no mention of whether it was an accidental spot..normally Road Sign exists.
    During after noon driver must have dozed ..only she can tell the fact after her recovery .

    The highways authority must correct the layout of the said Road where this nasty accident happened, immediately to avoid such incidents in future. Due to this fault in layout of the lanes, new or inexperienced drivers are forced to make wrong judgement. As you have correctly said that there is no Road sign suggesting that this three lane highway becomes two lanes just few hundred metres ahead. It's indeed a very bad planning by the civil engineers.

    Whenever lane merges it’s an accident prone area. Driver’s eyes need to be on the road at any given point of time and brain to make quick judgments.
    Unfortunately woman was driving.. no comments. I am also a woman and I also drive so my sincere request to all woman drivers out there to be extremely careful. Lives are precious. This could have been avoided had she been careful, if she knew how to overtake and how to control the speed.

    • @munisekharmane7141
      @munisekharmane7141 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with what you said, but the lack of sign board indicating that the lanes are merging (bottle neck) is gross negligence, particularly on NHs where cars are allowed to cruise at around 80 to 100 kmph and more importantly, it's a toll road where all safety measurements should have been ensured in the best interest of the new commuters. Those who commute on a daily basis (regularly) are well aware of imperfections on the roads they commute.
      You can see sign board that there is toll booth ahead from a distance of 1 km till the booth (one can actually see toll booth from quite a distance even if there are sign boards). Unfortunately, no such sign board even at a distance of 100 mts where lanes are merging.

    Three lanes converging to two is certainly tricky while driving. But, that is not the main culprit here. How could the car traveling in the side lane go like a rocket? One is supposed to go slowly in that lane. Moreover, there was sufficient distance before the convergence happened, but the car was speeding up like rocket, probably, making it unable to take control. Anyway, hard lessons for all of us to take. What is the purpose of brakes in a car, if it cannot stop the car on such a long path, before hitting the sidewall? It is completely driver's fault according to me. But, road design and signalling can be improved as well, even though they are not completely responsible for this accident. Adamant driving mentality seems to be the main culprit. We Indians need to learn that road is not the place to "stay first", before others, road is the path to travel. "My gaadi is superior in everything, How can I allow my car to be falling behind other middle class cars?". I see this stupid mentality playing havoc in Indian roads everywhere. Indian roads are full of surprises and we are conditioned to it, this aberration in Mumbai - Ahmadabad express highway is silly by Indian standards. The driving behavior of we Indians is completely chaotic and we care a hoot for lane discipline. The problem cannot be solved merely by blaming the corrupt officers, contractors and politicians.

    One more logical point, when we drive on highways, we do long distance and get tired, even though we keep speeding which is wrong. Anybody can loose control and accident happens. Why she was over speeding, heard they done 20kms in 9 minutes, were they in racing round or what. Simply its thier mistake
    To prevent this, i think in abroad, there are limitations to speed on highways, else there would be action. But in india , there is no such facility

    • @shazadtify
