To be honest, I think a lot of japanese game composers took influence from latin music (particularly koji kondo) around the 90s/2000s and so that influence came to me via japan. However, I do listen to a lot of artists like jobim, ed motta, djavan, hermeto pascoal, gilberto gil, ivan lins etc. these days but initially that sensibility came to me through 90s/2000s game music.
