Lost my dad just last December. I never fully understood it when people would just grieve for a long time. I used to think when a loved one dies, you would just grieve for a while and then be okay. I was so wrong.

I understand what you're feeling. I lost my dad 17 years ago and I used to think after a while that I would move on, but there's times I think about him and reminisce of the wonderful memories I had with him.

I unexpectedly lost my dad a month ago. It’s the most heartbreaking and painful thing that has ever happened to me. He was only 65, we still had a lot of things to share and live together. I never thought I would lose him so early but life teaches us the hard way that nothing is guaranteed and that our world can turn upside down in a minute. I don’t know how my life is gonna look like, I feel stuck in the moment, missing him every second and wishing it is all a nightmare. Thanks for your video. Sending hugs and strength to you and everyone who has lost a parent.

I lost my Dad about 7 months ago to Coronavirus at age 67. I never expected to lose my dad this early in my life, with so many experiences left that we were supposed to share. Your videos have helped me a lot this fathers day, thank you thank you thank you.

I hate when people say "your not crying" basically saying you have to cry to grieve.. When my mom died 3 years ago, actually right before she died... I read her a letter I wrote to her telling her how much I love her, and told her it was okay to let go, etc. I was crying my eyes out and about 5 seconds after I read the letter... she passed away. I cried for about 5 minutes after she died, heated up some pizza and ate it. I felt bad for doing that, I felt bad for not crying anymore but she was suffering for so many years that i almost felt a relief and I hate to say that but its true. I still cry and I cry at VERY random moments. I'll hear a song she liked, watch a TV show she liked, etc. or I'll just being there and a memory hits me. I dream about mom too and I look forward to those dreams so much because I do feel like she is visiting me. When my mom left this world, she knew how much I loved her and I had her back no matter what. And that is what truly matters. Taking care of her and seeing her gradual decline also make it easier for me to deal with her loss. Nothing was left unsaid and there were no regrets.

I lost my mom 3 years ago and I relate to everything you said so much. Especially the first year - people do move on and I truly appreciate my friends who just ask me what I need. Everyone grieves so differently and I wish people would have more open conversations. The holidays are also hard but it’s the random days where it hits me hard. Sending you soo much love today!

Sending love. I have not lost my dad but I recently just lost my husband on April 27th to a five year battle with als. I was his fulltime caregiver. He was 33 when he passed and would have been 34 on my 5th. He was diagnosed at the age of 28 and I was 24. Two weeks before diagnosis he bought my engagement rings and two weeks after diagnosis he proposed at the be our guest restaurant at Disney world. I've had a lot first since his passing. First mothers day, our 5th wedding anniversary was may 21st, our sons 2nd birthday was June 5th. This has been the hardest thing I've ever gone through. The disease was hard but not having him is much harder.

If you don't mind sharing, how to you feel about living out of state from your Mom? I live in the DC area but my Mom lives in Florida. So the distance has been a real struggle through our grief as well. I am planning more visits, but wanted to see how you dealt with that. It is also difficult to see a parent grieve on top of our own grief.

I have not lost a parent, but I did go through the loss of my only sibling last year. We are coming up on a year, and everything you said is so true. The feelings of isolation, like people don't and will never understand, people just not knowing what to say. All this, on top of the global pandemic, which made a heartbreaking event even more difficult. Thank you for this video, it resonated with me in many ways and was so comforting as someone grieving during the first year of my sibling's passing

Thank you for posting this video. It has been only 6 months since my Dad suddenly died from a heart attack. His funeral was during the height of COVID so only my Mom, sisters and I attended. It was even harder with no physical support. And today has been a big struggle. It is nice to relate and know we aren't alone. Some days I wish Father's Day and Mother's Day weren't a thing, as it is difficult for those who don't have the loved ones to celebrate and a even greater reminder they aren't here. I also have my wedding coming up and that has been a struggle as well. It is nice to know the healing process and how to get through. I decided to take time off social media today and take today as normal as possible.

about 3.5 years ago, around christmas time i lost a close friend from college and also a close father figure, within 10 days of each other and both unexpected accidents. what you said about the initial outpouring of support and then after that people tiptoe around talking about it is SO true! i also found a lot of comfort in the song 26 by paramore, the lyric “hold onto hope if you got it” resonated with me so much because i knew both my friend and my father figure were such lights in my life and wouldn’t allow me to wallow in sadness so i always tried to channel their positive energy and spirit whenever i was sad. i may have lost them in the physical world but their memory lives on in my heart and relays in my head through memories! and my father figure documented much of his life and parenthood on facebook so i get memory notifications from him at least weekly 😂 sending love 🤍

Can't believe its been 5 years already! I remember sitting there watching in shock. I can only relate to this with the loss of my great grandma- 12 years ago in August. I still remember the moment etched in my mind when I found out about her passing. I never thought I would be able to function. It really is just about adapting to life without them, and trying your hardest to be ok. Thinking of you and all those who have lost their dad, this day!
