massive respect to you whilst not letting go of the power band,it takes balls on a 500 to do that, respect from the uk from an oldschool rider from the 90,s
Agree 100% it takes a lot of balls to ride the cr500 to it's full potential. The Powerband on it is unbelievable. First time I rode one was my last. Cleanup on aisle 1 we have a code brown!
Finally somebody who rides it like it's stolen! I've searched for a while now on TH-cam all of them carefully riding it around the track - understandable:))
Heck yeah!!! Killer machine, killer video. And no annoying music throughout the vid. You let the 2-banger supply the music. And the riding was off the chain. Love it. Keep it up!!!
I love you guys, and ladies. Who ever it is at the team who made this masterpiece video. Extra super turbo charged Buddha thanks, for not putting any music over the the real music of the engine. 100% Sound orgasm!!! It's made my day!!! Thanks again!!! 🙏
My dream bike! Such a beautiful bike I'm jealous for sure. They're getting harder and harder to find. In my opinion the best of the cr bikes was the 1989. I wish they still made race bikes like these. The new ones I can't even get with what the industry has done to the plastics design and don't get me going about how they need to bring back the entire 2 stroke line up. Other than the 89 cr bikes the 90's 2 strokes are my favorite.
Yep…! You are not alone in your thinking. I know it’s probably my age (52.5yrs old), but the newer stuff has zero pull on me. I’ve plenty of late ‘80s 2-strokes & still ride REGULARLY! Been riding 2-stroke MX bikes since 1982 when I got my 1979 KX80A. I rode just yesterday my 1996 CR250R & the 1998 YZ250 (both deeply modified). Riding still gives me the youthful fun & enjoyment as it always has! Love my 1988 KX500 the most though💪😁much agreed with you…the whole plastics thing?! Just weird looking to me.
I had a Marine Corps buddy who had a new '89 CR500 back then. He didn't believe in suspension preload (thought it was a waste of travel) and dialed all of it out of his shock. He was essentially riding a pogo stick. I was behind him on my XR600R when he hit a pebble. What unfolded next looked like something out of a Bugs Bunny cartoon. He turned into a moving dust cloud with an arm, a leg, a wheel, occasionally popping out of said dust cloud. It was hilarious! He became a believer in preload. It renewed my faith as well.
Only set back is they were so soft hard to get it I line when she was loaded im 52 and this brings me back. Did you see the rear fender on start up every time that piston fired it would flex some serious nuts
That was my bike when I attended CU Boulder in 1988-1991. I used to take it out by myself off highway 36 and literally scare the shit out myself and while enjoying the adrenaline rush of surviving. A rocket ship beast.
I still regret selling my CR500. It was a great trail bike. Never ran out of power even at timberline. And it was light enough that it wasn't too hard to get out from under it when it fell on you😁 It would make a great super moto
Awesome bike , I've got an 87 cr 500 I've been slowly restoring for a few years should be as tidy I hope ...I'm old an bought up on 2 strokes , any old skool 2 stroke big bore rider will say "" frankly my dear ; I don't give a damn if your new bike handles better...don't care in the slightest , not interested...those big bore 2 strokes that torque , smell and noise is highly addictive...
Sexiest dirt bike still till this day. Something about the 89 CR500. A mate had one when i was younger & he let me ride it out the river flats one day. That was 27 years ago & i'm still shaking😂😂
True, but regular checking & general maintenance…rewards you with great times & much fun! There’s nothing like the 2-stroke 500’s. So much fun to ride😁
That was almost the same bike that Robbie knievel was riding at ceasars palace in Las Vegas. Rest in peace robbie knievel. Hopefully the legacy will live on. The cr500 is a beast.
At one point Robbie's Surgeon owned the Caesars Palace jump bike. Would be interesting to know how many Cr 500's Robbie owned? I estimate 6 to 7. He never was sponsored by Honda, the reason the Honda graphics were removed. Most of the jumps he did in the early 90's were on 91 Cr's with white fenders, side covers and number plates.
From the factory, the '89 suspension was nightmare fuel. The suspension components ate themselves and would gall. A suspension upgrade is pretty much mandatory. It makes the difference between enjoying a ride and surviving a ride.
@@weekendwarriorsmx Even though they put good forks on it in '96, I still had mine revalved and resprung (Gold Valve and heaviest springs). Best investment aside from my oversize front brake. Would like to get an Ohlins shock on it eventually.
The forks were trapping oil and air with the cones at the top of the forks. This created a mid stroke harshness. Showa also used a little more low speed compression which made suspension feel a little harsher. I was one of those test rides for Showa in 89. I got to try out many different top cones with different shapes holes in an 89 500. I didn’t think the rear was bad. Ever couple of weeks I would get a new box from Sudco, the American arm of Showa with a note from Jake Thompson. The 89 was a lot of fun to ride when the forks were fixed.

You should!
88 and 89 are the best looking years for Honda imo. I absolutely love these older Hondas!!!!
I love the sound of the CR two stroke.

Actually my 89 suspension isn’t bad compared to my 2001. And compared to what the 88 had it was a step forward for sure.
Glorious. Stay on the power and the front wheel is used for balance not steering.
