Both are beasts, I started with a KX 125 2 stroke and then a KX 250, had some engine work done to it and on the dyno was putting out 56 wide open throttle in 4th gear it would still wheelie, I couldn’t imagine the hit of these 2 bikes. BTW, my first bike was a Kawasaki coyote pull start, yeah, I’m old!
Biggest takeaway for me, aside from that astonishing horsepower you are getting out of these low-revving engines, was the rider choosing the old Honda as the better handling bike and how he said it would be really close in a lap-time shootout with the new 450. MX bike technology has not advanced as much as the moto-media would have us believe, since the act of going fast around a dirt track with jumps and stuff is still dependent on the rider more than the bike and we actually had great bikes 3 decades ago that still can work well. Great video !!!
Technology in the late 80's quickly outpaced the rider. Evidence is how many more injuries I saw as power and suspension got lot better. Prior to that 70's the weaker engines and suspension limited speed over jumps. The mono shock was a big leap in technology busted my knees up and back injuries decided to move on from motocross. The most fun ever had was Dune jumping at Glamis partying and having fun doing stupid stuff like jumping over a fire pit.

I think the ultimate bike build would be a 250f with a crf 150f engine swap with a turbo. Build a bike that makes just as much hp but has almost one third less rotational Mass. Rotational mass is what really gives a bike its heavy feeling not its weight most of the time. It's why a 450 can weigh almost the same as a 250 F but feel way heavier when you're riding it.
@@keithpeterson3447 a 150f engine weighs less than a 250f engine genius 🤣. If you actually knew anything about turbos you would know that there is no lag anymore. Twin scroll turbos have been available for street bikes for a while now. A 150f on 15 psi of boost would be displacing about 300 cc's of air.
