By my calculations, he would have hit 793 home runs by staying on the field for ~155 games every season of his career.
Then he possibly could have hit 800

Cubs fan here...not sure Sosa really deserves to get in...he was too much of a one trick pony, with that trick relying on the juice. His frame was a 25-35 HR/season frame, which was what he averaged his first 7-8 years, not the 53/season he averaged the next 7-8 years. Maybe if he averages 30-35/season and does it clean for 15 years, he gets in the mid to upper 400s and has a shot. There are other guys who are known juicers that I think could get in on other merits...Palmeior had 3000 hits, ARod had scored 2000 runs, had 3000 hits and 2000 RBIs, Bonds was basically the same as ARod...2200 runs, 2935 hits, 2558 walks and 1996 RBIs. Manny....career .312 batting average with 2500 hits. Guys like McGuire and Sosa who don’t have any other career stats, besides HRs, that jump off the page at you, just don’t deserve to get in....IMHO.

Joey Jay finished with 99 wins and 999 Strikeouts, lol. And he WON 21 games twice (in a row). Gee Walker had 954 Runs, 1,991 Hits, 399 Doubles, 997 RBI, and a .294 Average. Biggest "Hard Luck" players I know about.

J. J. Bleday has a swing very similar to Ken Griffey Jr. during the college World Series Espn put the two side by side and it was shockingly similar. Bleday went 4th overall to the Marlins.

Thome and Griffey are 2 of the best of all time...not just as players, but congeniality, likability and all around good people. No controversy, no steroids. What a ballplayer should be.

Harry Kalas's call of Schmidt's 500 still gives me the chills even though I've heard it a million times. Just the way he goes from totally chill to "SWING AND A LONG DRIVE..." in an instant.

I think all those guys should still get in. Why you may ask? They all new PED's had been going on for a long time and after the strike baseball was in a huge rut. Those guys brought the asses to the seats again for a number of years. Everyone benefitted from it but you don't hear them talking about giving all that money back they earned from those guys using.

I have always love Michael Jack! Growing up near Philly, I grew to idolize him. He was such a strategic hitter and fielder!
the guy who caught Jim Thome's HR did not realize it was his 500th until security came down and got him. He was from out of town on business and wanted to see a baseball game. He gave the ball back to him not asking for anything
Jim Thome 500 gets me teary eyed everytime. The announcer and the clutch nature of it does it for me.

Baseball isn't only a competitive sport but even the amount of sportsmanship seen in these clips is unreal. Both teams congratulated him and left the dugout, even the bullpens and managers came to say congrats on such a milestone.

You and I have a different idea on what "underrated" means. He is in the Hall of Fame lol.
Underrated in the fact that when one mentions the "suprerstars" of the 90s, his name usually isn't there, like Bonds, Sosa McGwire Junior or A Rod.
Also, when he played, he really wasn't a household name outside of the cities where he played.
I wouldn't say underrated as much as forgotten.

Even with all of the injuries he's still regarded as a top 10 player of all time. He would have had the greatest resume in the history of the game if he stayed healthy.
Its crazy that one of the greatest all time, who was almost unanimously voted into the hall of fame, is still regarded as one of the biggest "what-ifs" in the history of the game. THATS how good he was

Richard Figueroa Pudge and Mike piazza disagree loll. Both definitely juiced and were named several times in reports. They were just too well liked by the fans to accuse them of it. Nonetheless they were both great athletes and probably didn’t need them anyways.

I remember watching Griffey hit 500. hated when he was traded to the Reds but was such a fan of his growing up I still would watch. Such a beautiful swing.

I was at a Reds vs. Phillies game in Philadelphia when Ken Griffey Jr. was sitting on 599. And I shit you not, as Phillies fan we wanted to see it so bad that we booed our on pitcher Brett Myers when he struck him out.
I would be honored to give up a homerun to Griffey if it was his 500th. Heck I would go up to him and say congrats. One of my favorite players of all time.

I saw A-Rods 500th in my first-ever visit to Yankee Stadium in 2007. Not a yankee fan but was with a group and cheered nonetheless. Surprised it wasnt here.
