  • We depart Portsmouth and see H.M.S Victory as we pass by. The tug S D "Christina" helps to turn us (Waverley has a very large turning circle) so that we face the harbour exit.
    The towers we pass were built as defensive positions, built around 1420.
    On the apron at Southesea sits one of the Hovercraft which ply to and from Ryde Pier on the Isle of Wight.
    Next it is off to have a look below decks and once again watch the superb working pistons, but from a slightly different angle to the previous videos. Virtually below me is the huge paddle shaft which keeps the ship moving. Waverley runs from May to October. It's worth looking if she is calling in near where you are if you live near the sea.

    Crew mainly Scottish, and yes, friendly.
