    Take some TrueOil and apply a few coats to that contour to seal up the wood and it will look really pretty.

      He could also try using some black wood stain if he wants the mahogany to not stand out so much.

      Yes, oil it up a bit! Or rub it with your hand for two days straight 😂

      No,no,no. Dye the wood first, then stain, then apply 10 to 20 coats of poly and it will be 3D

    I live in Korea and had a chance to pick up my Balaguer guitar in person. Their shop is incredibly clean and well maintained. Also SUPER SMALL. I can't believe that team of 4 dudes makes most of this company's guitars. I met the lead builder and he's very knowledgable.

  • @schwab21121
    @schwab21121 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Love doing the diy thing, too. Whatever it takes to inspire you and makes ya want to pick it up more often and write sick riffs. Great job my friend.

    Now THAT’S how we roll here! Thanks to your friend for helping to make this guitar playable for you. I’m glad you’re able to play that thing again. I’m sure this vid made at least one dude who built this guitar at Balaguer sweat a bit or even game ‘em nightmares, lol, jk. Like you said in the other vid, it really wasn’t their fault that you picked a totally flat top. I’m sure they’re glad as long as you’re happy playing with it.
    Like others said, once you decide you’re happy with the bevel, maybe oil it or add some clear coat from a can to finish it off so it’ll match the headstock better and protect the wood from degrading.

    It's great and honestly refreshing to see someone who is not afraid to touch their guitars and treat them as tools instead of showpieces, and honestly it doesn't look half bad and I'd even go as far as to say it's even a better showpiece now with the story added, and I'm sure a bit more sanding would be totally fine as well. Keep it up man!!

    @mofomartianp ปีที่แล้ว +7

    That's a sick mod, gonna make that guitar much more comfortable to play :) You can give the wood some oil to bring out the natural grain and give the whole contour a nice dark finish that would match the black edges of the silverburst.

  • @AaronMorgan666
    @AaronMorgan666 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Anything to make it more playable. Congrats. Idk if i could have done it. I mean, if i had a friend that would do as good as a job, then sure. This and the orange solar are my favorites of your guitars!

  • @AgainstTheeWickedlyMusic

    Honestly, that looks really nice for a DIY mod, your friend did an excellent job. I was scared for you after reading the title, but I'm happy that it still looks great. Playability is the #1 priority anyway, though, and since the sanding made that guitar better to play, that's all that matters!
    Also, I love the tone of that Baluger. A lot of these baritones have such shrill and brash tones, but this one has a really nice bass response

    I have done custome carves on 3 of my guitars using hand tools you get a way more controle that way. I would mask off the body and repaint that section with black and fade in to reproduce the burst. Lots of instructional videos how to do it on TH-cam. My thumbnail was an old Teisco heavily modified with one of the most complicated wiring jobs you could think of.

    I have an old school Schecter A7 from 1999 that just never felt right. The edges were totally squared off and it made my picking arm go numb after a while.
    A roommate had always wanted to Mod guitars so he busted out a Dremel and spent 7 straight hours reshaping it. Not only did we find some GORGEOUS Mahogany under the Black paint...he went on to become one hell of a luthier!!
    These kinds of projects are the sh*t. Mod it again and you'll be playing that Balageur all the damn time!!

  • @CYBERDROiD9000
    @CYBERDROiD9000 ปีที่แล้ว

    This type of binding is usually applied in a liquid form. They put the body in a mold and just pour the binding into the channel. You can tell by the look of the binding itself. It's not multi-laminate and has this cheese-like color. So, it isn't the classic way of applying binding with binding strips and glue. This is why it wouldn't just flake or break off when sanding it. It's completely melted onto the body itself and basically part of the finish.
    The mod turned out pretty damn well! It looks really cool. And you are right, Ibanez had guitars like that and Kiesel, too.

    Awesome man! I remember an interview with Jimmy Page. He talked about sanding down the neck of an old Les Paul. Someone told him that was dumb because the value dropped. He said “these are Jimmy Pages guitars”. He just meant, he’s the one that’s gotta play the darn things, so make them comfortable! But now that’s an even dumber thought, dropped the resale value? Those are Jimmy Pages GUITARS!!!

    Weird I found this video today! I had the same problem with a guitar I have. The side is sharp on my arm when I play. It's a left handed Schecter Diamond Series 2008 C-1 FR. I tried gorilla taping a soft piece on it and it just felt weird, so I took it off.
    I thought about doing the same thing as you did. Man, your guitar even looks good and it's also more comfortable to play as you said. Great video brother. Cheers !!! PS: You ROCK !!! \,,/..\,,/

    Use painter tape to protect what you want to keep nice. Use an angle grinder with a sanding flap disc to shape the guitar more. It will be faster and give you more of the result you’re looking for.

  • @godofrainbows
    @godofrainbows ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, this is really cool. It seems easier than I thought it was; less involved, especially with the binding. I would’ve thought the binding would’ve presented a problem and I would’ve been afraid that it would start coming undone around the body. So does this mean I could do any guitar with binding? Such as my telecaster?
