At the end of this year, I will have ONE YEAR worth of expenses saved plus an extra 10k for emergencies. I’ve been working for this so hard. I can’t wait to resign in November. I will give them a 6 week notice and be done before Christmas. I can’t wait for this freedom and I’m so proud of myself.
Best wishes, what business are you starting? I’m building an army of wealth builders that I can educate and direct toward new projects to help others launch their companies.
I love how you pointed out that before you left your job, you had a financial cushion established. Leaving your job without a financial cushion to lay on sounds like a plan full of hope, and hope rhymes with broke.
This was excellent Nischa! From my perspective, I believe what you have acquired and truly seperates you from the others is that you have gained wisdom along your journey. I appreciate you sharing your wisdom and observatons. Have a great week. Larry, Central Valley, Ca USA
Thanks for sharing! As an aspiring youtuber, i really appreciated your reframing tip around not thinking of quiting as a pay cut but as building equity. Plus, worse case you return to a different job, which is not a big deal!

As I am now working on shifting my career from engineering to management consultancy, I would say these steps apply too, I am now working as a freelance management consultant in the evenings and weekends to build an experience that will support me while applying to management consultancy firms, I am also stacking up some money to support me if I take a cut in my salary.
I took the plunge to be an enterprenuer a few months ago and honestly, the reframing of "I might fail and what happens when I fail" was hard for me. Coincidentally I had come to the same conclusion that if I fail, I'll proudly put this put on my resume and go back to a tech job. I'm not done with this path yet but also acknowledge how isolating it is. Most people struggle with this mindset shift, including my friends and family, which can both add to the isolation of working for yourself and self doubt.
You definitely have my sub. This content is next level. For me Eledator was the turning point. Please keep doing what you do and keep being you, love it.
I quit my job due to health reasons, and though I was £00,000's in debt it was the best decision I made. Within under 3 years the debt was paid, loved my accountancy roll, though the person I was working with made life difficult after 18mths enough was enough. No one could work with them for more than a few weeks before quitting.
Thank you for this video! What you said was exactly what I needed to hear at this time. Especially when you said it's not about winning, but about avoiding future regret. Right message at the right time.

I am looking forward to doing something new soon and ready to take a few risks when I have got the financial cusion / side income sorted. Have also been able to pass on some of Nischa's guidance to my kids - they don't teach it in school...
I love your practical and realistic advice! Especially about the importance of keeping a safety net. It's good to keep in mind, that although TH-cam/Google Adsense can yield a significant income in itself (if planning on starting a YT channel), it will take a lot of time to get there. I've seen creators state that their monetizing journey took anywhere between 6 months and 2 years, and then another couple of months to reach the income that allowed them to quit their jobs. I recognized that staying consistent throughout this building phase is the toughest but most importance part. Hence why I've started building a back log of videos, so I can ensure I'll be able to release a video once a week while still working. Of course, I've also set a deadline for uploading the first vid, otherwise I could keep making videos without actually uploading forever.
Great rundown! The psychological wherewithal required to start a business is still something I struggle with. It's great to hear you explain what helped you prepare yourself to dive in.
Great advice. I am 9 months full time into my business. I have reframed it as being my ‘real-world 1 year masters’. If it doesn’t work then it will be a really solid side business.
The fear of the unknown can easily sway us away from pursuing our real dreams. I like to believe in the saying that "nothing worthwhile is easy." So if it's going to be hard work, it will most likely be worth it. Thank you for this video. I took a lot of notes.
Nischa, thank you for making all these video's, it really has opened up my eyes at such a late stage of my life. Better late than never. YOU'RE A LEGEND!!
I'm now in the unfortunate position of wanting to quit. I loved my job but it's now changing from a managerial role to more of a consulting role. My employer is selling some of its under performing IP and they want me to visit the sites of the buyers to better integrate the IP into their business. I have 0 interest in doing this and looking at my options.
Me too, I enjoyed my job but now it's changing significantly. My manager doesnt have the gumption to call BS on the nonsense. I think I should leave them to get on with it but without me.
The last bit is very much true. I've been meaning to write a mobile app for YEARS. When I first got the idea, we were using iOS 8. Now iOS 18 is about to be announced next week. Not taking action sucks.
Excellent points on preparing for the transition to entrepreneurship, especially the importance of building a financial safety net and testing commitment. These steps are essential in minimizing risk and setting a solid foundation for success in any venture. 💼
I think an important part of the equasion is also asking yourself why first. Working for yourself has been put on such a pedestal in the influencer era, as if it is default better, but it's not for everyone. Are you doing it because you are genuinely excited about it, or because people make you feel like enjoying your 9 to 5 is somehow deficient or weak?
Hey Nischa, would be great if you could also do a breakdown video on how you make money now as an entrepreneur. Similar to the breakdown you did on your corporate job.
I'm the friend! I think it's been 10 years since I first thought that I want a podcast. I'm so burned out from my professional job now that I'm thinking of quitting without a backup plan just so that I can focus on discovering what other industry I want to work in, plus put fresh energy into the podcast, and not the leftover energy I can scrape by on evenings and weekends. So I would actually skip straight to 5 😅
$300k or about £235k puts you easily in the top 1% of earners. After even 5 years of that you can be a millionaire just by maxing out pension, using ISA allowances and putting the rest into savings or property. I guess such work is higher stress but this has set you up with what I call FU money, I got there myself, albeit a bit slower, but I'm realistic the vast majority of people (often in jobs society undervalues) will never get to that point and so taking a leap is a real and tangible risk. It's great that you are successful, inspirational even, but your career is like winning the lottery to most people and sadly people's life chances are somewhat predetermined by circumstances. I think the message is you can always improve your lot, even if that isn't riches and finding a niche that you finding rewarding and pays better is achievable.

Super inspiring. Congrats! I don't know if you mentioned it. How much time did you work on your full time job and at the same time on the side hustle ? For me to realize that I can focus more on my side hustle and quit my job without impacting my financial status took about 3 years. With persistent work I got there, as you said, evenings and weekends set aside for your entrepreneurial path.

It's easy to quit when you have been working for less than 2-3 years with the same company. But, it's much more difficult after 15 years. After 15 years of work, the severance package can reach 16 months of pay. If you quit, you lose it!
