I once had a free tour of the factory. I had a job interview there. I didn't get that job but it sure was interesting to see. I actually couldn't believe how crude some of it was. But it was over 10 years ago. I remember one of the dump body plates being hand formed on a brake former. But of course it was held up by an overhead crane as it was one big piece of plate steel. I also remember seeing these templates made out of plywood.
@Far_outlook I probably wasn't a good fit for it. That happened back in 2003 so I don't remember or care about any of the details anymore. It could have been because I knew Catia when they used Pro E. Haven't you been on job interviews? I've been on interviews that I really thought that I would get the job, that I was a perfect match for and just never heard from the company again.
I really hope that thing has power steering.... On a side note, Ide love to know the potential of an electric version, since electric has far more torque than any other engine (usually)
+Hyperion In a simple way to say there are two types of hybrid, the Toyota Pirus is a parallel Hybrid which both engine and electric motor power the car. Then this is the other type which is a series hybrid, which engine drives a generator and generator produce electricity to roll the motors. It sounds a bit more complicated for the series design but they each had their own advantages. And we do have city buses utilize both design.
+Creative Contagion sorry humor doesn't convey well through text. that was meant as a joke on hybrids since most people think weak/slow prius when you say hybrid, not this beast
No they are filled with air. I haven't been around any that have blown a tire, but I have been around when a valve stem broke off, and the air rushing out of that is loud as hell.
Samuel T. Steiner"America is the only country that has fat poor people" - James Yeager. I'm American, but how right he is... Dumb, lazy, fat, welfare drawing pieces of shit. Death camps have their place in society
Must have one hell of a power steering system! This is awesome, I'd love to take it for a spin. Oh and somebody should turn off the engine while they sit there and wait. 5 more min in that building and they'll all be dead from carbon monoxide poisoning.
well, the Liebherr T-282B is maybe the biggest one with 363/400 tonnes, we use them to deploy waste instead of littler ones for ore, mainly because the performance and efficiency to take out the material from the pit. To compare mining trucks is better test them in the pit while working instead of check the size of their tires in Minexpo or any other convention center. Siemens showed the last Perumin 2013 a very interesting transport method, using truck-trolley to save most of truck's gas just energising the engine with electricity, I hope this method would be available for >350tns trucks as soon as possible.
When I was growing up in the northern Minnesota (taconite country) 1970's they had BIG dump trucks for the iron ore mining company where my dad worked and welded on, Reserve Mining Company. I always thought he called them Yukes but I can't find any listing like that but the Cat 797 looks about right. Is this right or was it something else? I'm trying to find a picture of one of them with an adult next to the tire to show a friend of mine. They don't believe me. lol
No, no co-pilot is needed. They do have a second seat known as a "trainer" or "jump" seat for when you train a new operator, but once you are all trained up, you put your lunch kit on it lol. Its far from comfortable (trainer seat) so its not good for sustained ride alongs. The drivers seat however, is more like a captains chair. Trucks like this are all automatic. Believe it or not, they are easier to operate then your average manual transmission pickup. (they are all automatics) You just need a sharp eye for judging distances and always keep your head on a swivel. Safety first!
Ok so a CDL license, which I believe is a class B license permits you to drive a tractor trailer. Do you need a specific license type to drive this rig? I would assume you would need some type of state license along with special training. Any ideas?
Thatlazychick actually if i remember correctly there was someone that stole a dump truck something similar to this i think the size was smaller tho and went on a police chase with it
I worked for a large custom manufacturing plant, seeing this video shows how large companies are so reluctant to change, still actually putting mirrors on something that big, 4 million dollar + machine and just cant put cameras on it. the bureaucracy of larger companies thinking outside the box means putting a sticker on the box that says "box"
So let's say a camera breaks.. Better something than nothing. I think you need to rework that "bureaucratic bullshit" concept a little more. You'll find something, but you sure as hell didn't here commenting on a mirror.
awesome point of view Eric I totally agree, I've always thought that cameras provide more efficient safety, being a truck driver; but now becoming a mechanical engineer I will have the opportunity to see ideas like these realized one day I promise you.
imagine the fuel economy on this truck!!! great for long distance travel and very practice is size too!!! you can park every where you want what a great deal of truck wonderfull to take on the city and highway!!!! love it i want one !!! women would love it.
1000 gallons in a 12 shift 100 round trips hold 12 barrels of oil in one load one tire cost 50,000 k air filter cost 5k they have 4 or 6 of them on their

Relax folks. It is NOT the biggest dump truck in the World but Belaz 75710 is... It now beats the Liebherr T-284 and the Cat 797F , holding 25% more capacity than either one... P.S. Belaz is made in BELARUS; NOT in Russia, remember that!

barnabyray not being familiar with atomic bombs going off right beside me. I just wouldn't know but it would be a hell of a bang like you refer to?
barnabyray i think the tires or solid, no air.

If a tire blows it has enough force to blow a fully grown man about a mile
I wonder what kind of mileage you get with these? Perhaps two feet per gallon?
DAMMIT i forgot my lunch in the truck.. let me go back upstairs and get it
lol
Probably in the refrigerator by the cab.

no it's not an on road truck.... i mean really? off road. this thing would sink through the pavement. ... i live in one of these half the month.
ka7wyf Its a fucking joke.....

Having a militarized dump truck like this would save countless lives
Should be able to hold at least 1 American lol

That's not in the plant, it's in the Las Vegas Convention Centre. They're cleaning up, and moving out the equipment after MinExpo.
Can use this during rush hour traffic?

That is not the largest dumptruck in the world. The Biggest is ''Belaz'' 75710.
This video was in 2012. Maybe it changed.
I as just thinking the same thing
MINI GUN it hasnt and this is 3 years after your comment
That claim of world's biggest dump-truck was taken in 2018 by the Slovenian ETF NTT40, which also eclipsed the size of the bigger Belaz 75710 as well!
belaz is a copy of western technology. soviet block hasn't produced anything original since the revolution of 1917
I'd prefer this over any supercars anyday
I bet it doesn't even have cup holders.
or AM/FM radio that's extra so is leather seats

i drive these and it does. as well as a radio.
Jeremy Allwood same here and yes they do. sirius and cup holders. even the t262's have sirius. nice seats also.
Son Goku Welcome to 'MURICA...
Impressive, but does it have cup holders too?
Cost a few bucks to fill that tank.
I'm thinking like 10 bucks outta fill the tank right?
+Hunter Thompson Sure... you could get away with that...
+Hunter Thompson probably not even starting it up
Around 1056 gallons, 4000 liters. Would cost like $1800 to fill it up. It probably takes diesel too which costs more
Akrapovix diesel costs less tho
I like how it has a freaking stairway up to the cab...

You know your truck is big when you need a guy guiding you and a full size ladder to get on it loll
Id love to drive one of those on a motorway at 200 MPH

They were Euclids, otherwise known as Yukes.
Do you need a co-pilot for this? lol
no its driven by one man or woman
Man... Always.
No, no co-pilot is needed. They do have a second seat known as a "trainer" or "jump" seat for when you train a new operator, but once you are all trained up, you put your lunch kit on it lol. i have a serious question. how the hell do you transport this truck to the mine? that thing is wider than a 5 lane highway and taller than many buildings
From wikipedia: The T 282B is shipped in component form to the customer site before undergoing final assembly.
how much tireblack does this thing need?
Nice looking plant. I bet they get paid decent. Damn nice truck as well.
It's not a factory. It's after Minexpo in Vegas

I get so many comments with people thinking its a really badly organised factory that leaves trash all over the floor lol. It's the Las Vegas convention center. They have to move all the stuff out in less than a week after the expo. It's complete chaos as you'd imagine.
Beautiful. Awesome.
Yeah, we get it, its big. The real question is what is its gas mileage? I need to know if its worth buying as an in-town family vehicle. Thanks.
Where are these trucks used, in some open pit mines hauling tons of rock at a time.?
Very beautiful tires
What kind of engine does this beast use?
well ,, what about its ground clearance .. i expect the road to mines as very bumpy and is its ground clearance enough for it . i do not know much about dump trucks just seen one from caterpillar , and all
this is what I need to take a dump in peace
How many drives does this take?
Goodluck to the guy that has to inspect this thing. How many dam cylinders are in that engine??
We live in Alberta and we see these everyday
How do you ship these trucks? I mean, if you’ve ordered some for your mine/whatever, how do they get a beast like that to a desolate region?
This truck from the 2012 Las Vegas Mine Expo is used at the mine I work at. It is a Prototype for the T 284's and supposedly the pride of the fleet. But its always broken for ones thing or another.
It's a Liebherr, of course it's always broken down.....they all are.
