Soooo good, I can't get that theme song out of my head. I couldn't 40 years ago and I still can't. I remember taping it with an old cassette recorder while making my little sister be quiet so I could 'tape'. Unbelievable how time has flown. Thanks for the flashback, I will be humming this tune for days to come.
I first remember seeing Thunderbirds when I was seven, in 1974. The visual effects of these futuristic IR rockets & aircraft and marionette characters were(and still are) second to none. No one could top Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation techniques! RIP, Mr. Anderson. 😔
I am 59. I grew up with these wonderful action packed Anderson shows. I started with Stingray the Thunderbirds then Captain Scarlet and when I got a little older, I faithfully watched Jerry Anderson live action shows space 1999 and UFO. I have all the boxed Anderson DVD sets and love them all but Thunderbirds is my favorite and will always be. I still build model airplanes and sci fi kits. I have all the old Japanese made Thunderbirds kits in my stash. All the years that have gone by I still am in awe of all the simply fantastic miniatures they created for these shows. I cannot wrap my head around how many hours were spent creating this action packed world the Anderson's created for us. I will also always think Meddings and his crew of artists were just pure genius.
I was aged 10 in 1965, and Thunderbirds was the programme that captured all our imaginations. I certainly never missed an episode. As an adult years later I was very fortunate to meet Shane Rimmer. He was opening a Thunderbirds themed fete at a school in Woodford Green in Essex. It was very surreal to meet him in the flesh, as I listened to his voice it certainly carried me back to my childhood. So today 2018 at my age 63, I have the photo of me and Mr Rimmer standing together at the kids fete. I have one big soppy grin on my face, as I'd met one of my childhood heroes, and memories like that are pure gold. Thanks for posting, you've made a happy man very old.👍❤
Grew up watching this in Chicago. Still sends chills down my spine. That show was so cool! And it still has one of the best openings in the history of TV. The moment it starts, you are hooked!
glad my dad brought me up on the Gerry Anderson classics, i’m 24 now and remember when these episodes were shown during summer holidays, me and my brother VHS taped as many as we could. those were the days! think we’ve still got our Tracy Island playset in the attic somewhere...

Happy 50th Birthday Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds The Original Series. 1965 - 2015. 50 Years Of Family Fun Action Adventure And Excitement. Thanks Mate. F.A.B. X
In Latin America "Thunderbirds" was translated to spanish language "Rescate Internacional" ("International Rescue") I was 7 or 8 years old when I watched the show for the first time in a black and white TV format 😄 Now I'm 55. Regards from a venezuelan citizen who emigrated to Chile searching a better way of life.
After some years being shown on the English TV channels in Montreal in the later 60s and early 70s, it then got dubbed into France and was shown for a while on a French TV channel as Les Sentinelles De L'Air. So, for about a decade, my memory of the Intro was 'Cinque, Quarte, Trois, Deux, Un, Ils sont patri!'
In Australia it used to be on Channel 9 at 6AM on a Saturday morning and the trick was to get up early as a kid or as a teenager and then later as an adult to try and stay up all night before watching the show and then go to bed. My Aunty only had daughters and was surprised that my brother and I would get up so early on a Saturday morning to watch a TV show, sitting there in our pyjamas, cold but watching TV. I think she thought that we were crazy.

I watched the show in 1967 when I was 14 and I enjoyed it very much...I always loved planes and rockets, but The Thunderbirds made me want te become a pilot myself. And six years later my dream came true and I made my first solo! The 18 th of August it is fifty years ago...Time flies but Thunderbirds will last forever!

Why isn't Barry Gray a bettering known composer? He produced melodies that were dramatic, romantic, epic, whimsical, tranquil, rousing, and all brilliant. Anyone who doesn't stand a little taller when hearing the Zero X theme has no soul.
Because this isn't about Barry Gray as composer. It is about Gerry Anderson as the creator of this and other shows. I am sure that if you search Barry Gray, you will find many of his works
@@eventingcrazy I refer you to the title of the video. "Thunderbirds 1965 - 1966, opening and closing themes". I know there are uploads to TH-cam, etc. What I meant was the sort of critical praise that goes to the likes of John Williams, Hans Zimmer, et al. It seems that a cinema composer can be legitimately lauded, and have concerts dedicated to their work, while a composer whose work was predominantly TV oriented is overlooked. Barry Gray was also an innovator in electronic music and his work inspired many others in the field.
Strange to think that 55 years after the first episode, Fireflash and Thunderbird 1 seem even less likely to ever fly. There are not many things considered futuristic in 1964, that are still futuristic. If you look at all the Anderson crew that went on to James Bond movies you can see the quality, from Lois Maxwell to Derek Meddings. I mean anyone who can design Fireball XL5, Stingray, 5 Thunderbirds, the SPV & SPC, the Shado mobiles and interceptors, and then turn a Lotus 79 Esprit S1 prototype into a submarine is a talented bloke. The future has rather let down the generation I'm from. Even though I was very young I remember there was an optimism that we don't have now. There was still a hell of a lot wrong with the world in the sixties but there was a feeling that it would all be put right. Not any more. Anyway, I'd like to add, if I may, Angel interceptor & MSV from Captain Scarlet, skyship 1 from Thunderbird 6, and the eagle transporter and hawk from S1999.
This is proper classic Thunderbirds that i used to watch as a child growing up , not the 💩 version they have on tv today or recently. I make me 😤 that they didn't bring back this version instead, because this is definetly the best version of Thunderbirds without a doubt.
Brilliant. The suspense the drama everything and to think that Gerry Anderson and the team managed to make all these with the restricted walking movements of the puppets. May be I'm just nostalgic but for me the puppets give an appealing and intriguing perspective and like comics from the golden age manage to take you somewhere else for a while. Somewhere that is related to our world but isn't and I think that is key.
Those who dont get the show need to realize that it came out during the early part of the space race. Technology seemed to be developing at lightning speed and the 1950s sci fi stories seemed about to come true.
