A couple people came into the room and sad "this is dynamite!" I said "I know...." 😂 I love imagining him sitting there looking at them stupid for saying something so obvious. Lol
On Davis' 1970 release Bitches Brew, Macero continued to expand his innovative practices, and "Bitches Brew not only became a controversial classic of musical innovation, it also became renowned for its pioneering use of studio technology." Some of the controversy at the time also stemmed from the use of the word bitches in the title. Macero recalls that when Davis told him that he wanted to call it Bitches Brew, "I thought he was kidding."The album became the best-selling jazz album of its time, selling 500,000 copies by 1976, when most successful jazz albums sold less than 30,000 copies.
I didn't like the tracks on this album at first but its starting to grow on me. Im more fond of Miles earlier works (traditional jazz records). Im giving his post Filles De Kilimanjaro material a chance and man is it some good stuff.
i still don't like them. but...all the live dates, fillmore, and '68-'69 bootlegs and etc from that era with masquelero, sanctuary, voodoo down, etc., the youtube videos based on that album is my favorite Miles period. Bitches Brew live at isle of wright is EPIC.
That period from when Wayne and Ron left and he added the rhodes keyboard and more percussion and the electric guitars into Dark Magus and Agharta, was the most controversial in his career, alienating and challenging many in jazz who previously adored Miles. I love the live bootlegs and concert versions of those record dates over the studio dates.
When I first got into the groove of driving for Uber in San Francisco I drove Friday and Saturday nights when everybody was coming to and from the clubs and bars. This was one of the Album's Of loved to play when they were getting into my car high and drunk and it always blew them away.
I just listened to Bitches Brew again and I'm still amazed that two musicians with 50 years combined experience created it (one of them splicing it out of all recognition) and that a major record label distributed it.
people use two words WAY too often and FAR too liberally...those two words are, "genius" and "literally". in reference to music - teo exemplifies both of those words without exaggeration dedicated to either one. brilliant musical mind.... and in fact, one of the greatest in history!!
I remember Miles commented that (post Electric Ladyland), that he Miles could put together a better band than Jimi Hendrix. I had to check that album out. The rest is history.
I think he actually said something more like he could put together the best rock band anyone had ever seen. He and Jimi were friends who were planning to work together but Hendrix's sudden death nixed that.
Real cool! Is there is space for improvisations nowadays? Hopefully. But I guess not! Anyway: BB stands alone in the world of music. A real masterpiece. For sure.
I really wonder if mankind is capable of producing music that surpasses this album’s level… maybe we hit our cultural peak as a civilization in the seventies?
Shame that they both didn’t have a great career as Miles Davis 50 years of music and Mike Tyson titles and were only known for their work with these two geniuses at least to me, But yes their contribution is appreciated , they were coureageous men to associate themselves with two great black men.
This album fundementally changed all my ideals of music. This record is a gift to human kind.
Its just ok.
@@flamethrowercandle2354 horrible taste

Without Macero there would be no Bitches Brew...just as without Cus D'Amato there would be no Iron Mike
