yeah jump floats are a real bitch to deal with bc of how unpredictable they are. I can't imagine how much of a downer it must be to get service aced over and over from a slow-ass serve. Must be a real kick to the morale.
Hinatatatatatatata in all honesty, probably yes. Just because they make the receiver look like an idiot for not getting it. Topspin serves are, of course, fast and powerful, but they’re much more predictable. Jump float serves come at you slow as hell, and just drift around. It looks like the players have never played volleyball before when they get aced by a jump float.
Hinatatatatatatata exactly. And morale is a huge factor in volleyball. The players’ moods are so important and they literally won’t play as well if they become discouraged.
Over head Receive is the best way to take the Jump float

yo no matter how much spin you give to the toss, when you hit it hard and right in the middle of the ball it just floats
Mack1231231 you don't need to reverse the spin, actually hitting it normally is capable of stopping the spinning move of the ball, plus it's not that strong spin ,so it should be easy to stop it🙂

Jump Floaters are his big weakness - in fact, he's gonna be put in a very similar situation soon (the anime is almost there, finally), and it won't be pretty.
I can't wait to see it animated, but at the same time, _oh man_ I'm terrified to see it animated.
@@TimeturnerJ well, he's one of the best liberos in the whole district of Miyagi and can't wait to see his performance in Nationals. I wouldn't call it a weakness, just a minor inconvenience that goes away with practice. He didn't know what to expect. Also, jump floats are received with overhand receives, all the scenes that show him receiving Yamaguchi's serve are underhand.

I would love to see everything in slow-motion like in the anime, but it’s more of an instinct thing. You analyse if you can, but you mostly rely on the desire to keep the ball in motion.

Knowing Yamaguchi was in awe after that one guy’s float serve and sought out help from him to do the same and improve himself warms my heart everyday 🥰
I actually like to serve this most of the time because it reminds me of a knuckleball pitch in Baseball. If you don't know a knuckleball, its a pitch where there's zero spin at all in the ball, thus making its movement random and hard to predict just like a floater.

Had a person who did this kind of serve on my club of high schoolers from some of the high schools in my area. Had our first 6v6 and I was back left. He ripped this really hard jump float serve right at me and I thought I got it perfectly. It moved just a few inches closer elbows on the very last second and it went flying to the right. They move almost the exact same way as in Haikyuu if done correctly.

4:18 is not a float serve. nice video though
1:50 and 2:05 didn't float either, they just had really good placements and velocities for non-topspin serves.
A float serve is literally any serve that doesn't have top or back spin in it.
KingofSnails which basically means the ball must have no spin at all. For a ball to floar, it must have no spin that affects its movement in air. Therefore, there are only two possible ways to get the ball to truly float.
1. No spin at all
2. Spinning 100% only from East to North (North being the top of the sphere ) or North to East
Number 2 is extremely hard to do while serving, so thats that.
Since all other types of spin contain a combination of side spin and top or back, the only way for the ball to float is without any spin.
So a ball that doesn't have top or back spin might not float as it can have side spin that does affect its movement.
KingofSnails but yes, people call pretty much any serve that doesn't have top spin, a floater. But many of these serves don't actually float because the server fails to create a clean hit where the ball has no spin.
