Fun Fact #1: Apparently, Shah Rukh Khan used to play field hockey in his college days, and felt right at home with the hockey terminology and body language of a hockey player. However, the filming crew wanted to create an authentic impression about actual games of field hockey, and thus called in actual field hockey coaches to extensively train the cast for a basic level of hockey sport. SRK also took refresher courses to brush up on his Hockey game, so that he wouldn't look out of place.
Fun Fact #2: The penalty stroke (that SRK missed at the starting) had to be shot multiple times over, because the narrow miss (that the script demanded) was very difficult to pull off. The stroke either went into the net, or missed with a wider margin.
Fact #3 the coach was a hindu and the director made the movie very communal when it didnt need to be.
Fun fact: Srk was captain of his school football cricket and hockey team. Unfortunately once while playing he got injury in backbone and doctored suggested not to ever play again ... thats what we see in kabhi alvida na kehna ...

The fact is, the story of CDI is very loosely inspired from the 2002 Commonwealth Games win of the Indian women's hockey team, about which the director had read an article which inspired him to write the script. In fact, he was not even aware of Mir Ranjan Negi's (the "Hindu coach" you're talking about) life and problems when he started writing. Negi was a goalkeeper in the Indian team, not a striker as Kabir Khan is shown in the movie. Further, in reality the famous loss after which Negi was removed was a 7-1 loss against Pakistan at the Asian Games, and not a 1-0 at the "World Cup" as shown in the movie.
Negi was closely involved in the making of the film and denied that the story was based on him. It seems the man himself was not at all concerned with the communal Hindu-Muslim angle which you seem to hold.

Eg:- Shamshera, War, Ek tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda hai, Sultan, Thugs of Hindostan, Aurangzeb etc
SRK deserves a national award for this. But unfortunately he didn't win anything. Swades nd Chak de India should have won their respective national awards. His performance in both of these films was outstanding!! 🙌

Being a Muslim he is fine with his kids wearing bikinis, he is fine mocking common public when it suits him. He is everything what A Person Deserving National Awards is not supposed to be.
To be worthy of National Award means being the best of that nation. All the KHAN IN Bollywood are nothing but pretenders. Don't be a FOOL supporting a hules because it shows how naive you are.

SRK is the most underutilised actor in india. Directors have time and again used his charm for box office successes. That chocolate boy image increases his popularity quotient as well, specially with female fans. It's great from business perspective, but only a handful of directors have brought the best out of him.
Chak De, Swades, deewana, baazigar, anjaam, Darr, hey raam, My name is khan are some of the classic movies that hardly anyone talks about. Really glad that you are reacting to one of his best works till date.

One of the best Sports drama movie breaking all the RULES and stereotypes of Bollywood and India. ❤️
No doubt it was a very good sport drama movie but it's not out of bollywood stereotype...
It did show hindu vs muslim. ( specially muslim as victim and Hindus as aggressor which is not true (it's other way around)).
This movie was inspired by the Indian hockey player Mir Ranjan Negi defeated by PAK in Asian games 1982 (he is a Hindu but in movie showed as muslim and showed as victim )

Arguably the best sports film after Lagaan. Despite covering all the basic technicalities of hockey, it was thought provoking and entertaining.
It is better than Lagaan and much more realistic although Lagaan is one of my favourite movies

I'm glad you guys are reacting to Chak De. It's one of SRK's best acting movies. The movie as a whole is amazing with a solid storyline. Although I'm not a sports fan, it had me rooting for those girls and the coach.

People will say this is one of the best movies I don't think so. I still like Swades as his best movie. And FYI I don't hate SRK but this movie let me down cause they are Veteran Actor's how did they not know the screenplay is copied. 🖖

Wow, so crazy I just found this channel now!!! Hindi movies were such a big part of my teens... watching them less now, but still love them! There was a big hype back in the mid 2010s when they were even shown on tv... which was rare for such long movies...
