  • In Part 2 of this two-part video, Kansas City Power & Light (KCPL) linemen climb the new backyard distribution pole, string a new secondary, restoring primaries and restore service to the houses who lost power. Near the end and in the background, the video contains some entertaining vegetation management (tree trimming) shots.

Impressive that they were able to get that done so quickly. Linemen do a great job, and are underappreciated when the weather is nice, but when it turns bad, they are praised when they get the power back on.

Mark Felty 3years experience as a lineman, i never received a single praise when electricity is stable. When blackout happens, we get shit ton of complaints lol

The linemen always get a super hero's welcome in my neighborhood after a storm. People with generators even offer to cook them meals.

In Brooklyn NY we call them "come alongs". I've also heard "blocks" but that gets confusing when you need actual blocks lol

I think he used a havens grip which is not supposed to be used on non steel cable.

I can’t believe I never thought of putting the block on the triplex like at 2:04. Guess you really do learn something everyday.

Yeah, honestly that is a time saver there considering the ground hand can get that done.

Why go back with open wire? Might as well run twist straight through

I feel like no one noticed these 2 things
    2:13 not roller it’s a spool
2:21 Is that a havens grip? If so, one should only be used on steel.
Also just an additional name you might learn 2:59 companies I’ve talked to call them one bolts or dog bones.

That hand held, ratcheting, wire cutter he's using to trim the dead ends - Someone please describe the wire and gauge he's cutting through? ie, steel, clad, etc. How many x what AWG is the cable?
Those are clearly some monster cutters.

    • @ElectroTree01

Some of the wire looks like copper some looks like aluminum or acsr(aluminum with steel core)
Can’t tell the gauge that well

It is, early secondary construction used all bare wire on spools like that. Only later on did triplex take over.
