1049 here. I’m hanging three of them next week. A B C phase each on separate poles . Setting 3 H2/45’ poles in a row. Looking forward to it. In this case it’s at a radial and it’s for one customer. PSEG needs to boost their voltage from 13.2 to 13.8. Load side of their riser there is one pot that feeds a building. Well hafta upgrade that pot with one that has a tap changer so we don’t boost their secondary voltage and cook anything. You’re right, not many guys on the island have dealt with them. I’m actually looking forward to it
@@pitshoumbongo you're name is awesome!! I guess companies have different safety requirements than others. The company I work for requires us to wear sleeves. I love getting to speak to other linemen and finding out how their company does things. Stay safe out there brother!!
Orange Officer I’ve seen a few over the years, usually on very long rural lines. What was unusual for me to see was voltage regulators installed on a distribution system in a small town (a heavily loaded 2400 delta system).
This new advanced voltage regulator will go up on the the single phase distribution pole to improve Smart Grid deployment and efficiency on the phase itself.
I gotta ask you this quest because I can't find this info anywhere. I own raw land 300' from, end run pole & Distribution Transform on the pole. House is standard 1500' sq ft. There is room for more houses to be added to D. Transformer. (Area requires underground in this area now. I need to get power to the lot via underground: trench & 3" conduit & Handhole box at the property line, all of which I will do). Roughly how much work & (planning if necessary) are required to connect lines from D. Transformer to Handhold box. My guess is the cost of a crew coming out to pull the wire & connect to Transformer and into the box with there connectors. What I'm getting at is how much, roughly, should this connection cost me: 1) crew install 2) material 3) office cost, ie any planning etc. Informative vid. I hope u can offer some info on the install. Thanks
Did you already talk to your utility and they are ok with you trenching and laying pipe? Not knowing where you livd figure in a 4 man crew at a rate of $40-$45 an hour per guy for 8 hours. Not including supplies.
This took place in Vegas. I know the time factors. I don't agree with your 8 hr time frame.I've had this done in AZ. It took about 2hrs. As for dig'n trench the est was $2,500 by a contractor. I could do it for trench rental & parts $300 for box & $300 for conduit. My problem is with the utility company trying 2 charge me $20,000 connect power from pole that has been in place since 1977. An owner told me a utility company put the pole up and connected for free. Just to get a new customer. What they r do'n in Vegas is Jack'n up the price for connection to keep individuals from building and thereby mak'n it so only Developers can build and build $500,000 houses and get higher taxes than if I build $100,000 house.
It's utility dependent, my utility would put a 4 man crew on it for a day, you really don't have a choice though. Your utility will dictate what and how it has to be done.
Lineman for 30 years. That looks like a crew I would like working with.
It's crazy how different things are done in different areas
Excellent video, explains what we do to those who aren't familiar very nicely. Never installed a regulator but looks easy enough!
Only understood parts of explanation, but this was an excellent video.
Like how the cactus is half as tall as the pole.
Pole mounted voltage regulator is similar to pole mounted transformer and capacitor bank.
I thought it was a transformer, glad to learn something new
@@electricaltyler5998 a voltage regulator is a transformer
@@bayol7403 True, but with some differences as voltage regulators control or hold line voltage & transformers step down line voltage to customers.
Beautifully done! Texas hands take note!
At least we wear our rubbers when in the primary
As a contractor journeyman lineman it's not very common for us to get to install a voltage reg. Thanks for sharing. IBEW 1049 🤙

@@magicman_metal_fab hell no hahaha. Working units out of port Jeff
@@linehandibew6205 nice. That’s a great area to work out of. Miss those days. I reconductored from Nichols rd all the way to the mall. Good times.
@@magicman_metal_fab who did you work for?
Shouldn't they have been wearing rubber sleeves as well while working with energized lines?
Not really Because they standing inside an insulated bucket and the conductors are covered with blankets

I've never seen a voltage regulator on a single phase line.

Wow, those clamp-top insulators are throwaway junk - clamp once, and that's it.
Benjamin Esposti well they aren’t meant to be used over and over again
Great video. Thanks
The title says “how to change out a voltage regulator”... like we’re gonna need to change one.
I think i can do it now!
Yeah! I believe in myself!
Great Content!
Good job
No amp checks when putting jumpers on to verify load.
Jim Lewandowsky I noticed that as well
