You won't believe the amazing street food here in Kolkata. Indian street food and Indian cuisine is so diverse, and all over the streets of India, you can find so many varieties of Indian spices and flavours. In this video, Myself (Trevor James, The Food Ranger) and Ting are going DEEP for street food in Kolkata, trying some AMAZING Bengali Street Foods in Kolkata, and some AMAZING curry and biryani rice.
You can eat amazing spicy and flavourful mutton biryani rice, some super sweet and saffron packed chai tea, a ton of delicious street foods like the Kathi roll and a ton of specialties on deckers lane.

To start our street food tour, we woke up early in the morning to have an Indian Breakfast, an Indian street food breakfast! We went to a local tea shop to have some chai tea and a super delicious potato curry, known as a sabzi, and a flavourful kachori to dip it in! Watching the Indian restaurants and street food stalls like this in action, preparing and cooking the Indian recipes that have been done like this for generations is simply amazing!
After tasting that saffron and sugar packed chai, along with the amazing potato vegetarian curry, we kept exploring the back streets of Kolkata to try and eat the best street foods of Kolkata.
Here, you can travel to India just for the food, and that's exactly what we did!
After the tea, we went to find some classic Bengali street foods on the street corners, and found a super flavourful bhel puri AKA puffed rice with a spicy mango chutney! This was actually very sour and spicy and so delicious!
We then continued traveling in Kolkata's busy and spice scented streets for more delicious foods, and found the amazing hot kathi roll.
This is marinated chicken in a ton of spice and yoghurt, wrapped up in a freshly fried paratha that's covered in a couple eggs, almost like an omelette, a HUGE omelette over top of the paratha! Then the paratha is wrapped up right on the street and you can taste the amazing flavors!
After that, we enjoyed a walk through the busy streets of Kolkata and made our way to deckers lane, the most iconic heritage street food mecca of Kolkata, to try an amazing and spice packed chicken stew. It was quite peppery and delicious!
After a quick walk and one street orange juice later, we arrived at Arsalan biryani rice and curry Indian restaurant to taste the famous mutton biryani and also try the amazing selection of spicy Indian curries. These bengali specialties were simply delicious, a MUST try thing here in Kolkata.
Here are the addresses for the street food locations we tried in Kolkata:
    1) Street Chai Tea with Aloo Vegetarian Curry at ATS Arun Tea Stall
    2) Bhel Puri puffed spicy rice snack - New Market area street stall
    3) Kolkata's Famous Kathi Roll at Kusum's Roll on Park Street, Kolkata
    4) Famous Chicken soup on Deckers lane
    5) Amazingly Fresh Orange juice right on the street right near KC Das Sweet Shop
    6) HUGE Bengali Indian restaurant dinner - Featuring Bengali Biryani spiced rice and a ton of delicious curry dishes - at ARSALAN park Circus
This is part 1 of 5 in our Kolkata Street Food tour series, and part 1 of many in our Indian street food tour series, we are going to keep coming back to India, probably twice per year, the street food and the local Indian recipes are just too good!

HUGE THANKS to ExpressVPN for offering all Food Ranger viewers 3 months free and 49% off their yearly package using this link: ExpressVPN.com/Thefoodranger . Travelers need ExpressVPN to stay safe online and to unblock any site. I personally use it for Netflix, even while at home in Canada, but also while traveling to unblock content and episodes that are geoblocked, and I also use it for security, because airport wifi and hotel wifi is often very insecure, leaving my data vulnerable. By connecting to one of their servers around the world, it’s just like my computer or phone is in that location, and all data sent while connected to their VPN is secure, safe, and private from others to see, so I know that my data won’t be hacked or looked at by others. Thanks so much for watching, and we have tons more videos coming up for you! Please leave me a comment below letting me know what you thought about this episode, thanks so much!!!

We are loving your show and have become a regular watcher now. Even my grandmother who has Alzheimers and can not understand a word nor read the subtitles, now looks forward to seeing the show (and that is so huge for us, thank you!!). Every few seconds or so she says 'so Colourful!' oh 'he looks so happy!' 'Doesn't this make you want to travel there?' and this from a women who never leaves the house and has gone from the most incredible Native Indian cook and best Chili sauce around to having to coax her from just eating ice cream. Keep up the good work and the amazing travel food logging!!

Disheartened to see so many hatred comment against India and its cleanliness. We are not living by choice, it's the infrastructure problem and we are trying hard to improve it. We happily live with harmony having diverse culture and religions. Try to appreciate some good parts rather commenting with biased view. Your hatred comments may not necessarily improve Indians, your kindness and love definitely spreads positivity in us.

    • @suragshastry7192
      @suragshastry7192 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Jarren Ong I think every Indian is aware of the existing problems.
The problem arises when a whole bunch of idiots post nasty comments sitting behind their computers so some Indians have no choice but to get on the defensive. This comment box in particular is nasty as hell. I suppose TH-cam gives them that privelage but there's no reason to unleash your hatred on a group of people just because you dint like something.
We are working hard to improve the standards in our country in every aspect.
Remember that some countries like China were in a similar developing phase not too long ago.

    • @jarenong
      @jarenong 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Well of course. But Indians have drawn the ire of many people by posting comments like "INDIA SUPERPOWER 2020" Is that called for? Why are Indians the only ones posting such comments? Do they have an inferiority complex? Are they so arrogant???? Which is why i said very rare to see an indian admit to anything wrong with their country.

So, in most Hindi speaking regions, it's called Bhelpuri. However, Kolkata is in the state of West Bengal, which speaks Bengali. Hence, in Bengali it's called "Jhal muri". 1. People who are just there to comment all about hygiene. No matter how much the cook/chef cover himself up and follow hygiene standards, if he is Indian, they will find some or other fault and start blabbering about hygiene.
    2. People who truly enjoy watching street food videos.

It's not because they're Indian, it's because it genuinely seems dirtier than other places. Go look at Trevor's Vietnam/Thailand/Indonesian trips, street food vendors in those places are much more hygienic so noone complains about cleanliness on those videos.

you all commenting calling these foods look dirty, they are not clean, etc. Guess what there are people growing up eating these food, people who have been eating these for years, theyr all still alive and healthy. It would be nice if u guys can respect others culture and their homeland food. This is also the reason why I love Trevor, he doesnt judge a book by its cover.

I hope one day you go to a restaurant and some gigantic sweaty guy cooks your meal in a jet black pot that is literally caked with years and years of crud and old food. Then as he assembles your food he uses his bare hands which he itched his sweaty balls with 5 minutes ago. Then when you go to complain about how disgusting your food was he looks at you and says

Sure I will as I am a huge foodie... after seeing Trevor's video of Nasi Padang and chicken satay in Indonesia, I did try it in Canada, but it was sweet.. may be just like the 90% dishes here which are with hint of sweetness like honey chicken, etc, many other cuisines are modified to the tastebuds of north americans...
To the extent, the indian food i tried here in many indian eateries in British Columbia is not authentic indian as well, I will save some money and open up an authentic Hyderabadi restaurant in the future, then the masses will see and taste how flavorful food needs to be and will agree with me that food is not meant just to be gulped up for producing energy to work.. haha

Why are people complaining all the time how dirty it is. At least show your respect to every one and every culture bevor you judged. These Indian people look friendly and earn their money by hardworking.

bruceownsu I understand. But the point is, should we take our standard to criticise another culture. I’m sure they live in totally different circumstance. We can’t expect that they have everything as we do, when people struggle so hard to get rid of poverty and try to survive every single day.

bruceownsu Your myopic, narrow minded view of a society which you have no experience of is reflected directly by your inability to understand why this is the way it is. India has a fundamental problem with its infrastructure and therefore her people are suffering. Yet despite all of this, the calamity and the difficulty, they still follow their passion and have some of the most amazing food in the world. You don’t have standards, you’re an entitled brat.

Came to the comments to see if a Kolkata resident was going to point this out! Trevor, I think the tang you felt was also because of the fresh mustard oil that is added to it (that's the golden stuff in the bottle that he chucked in before he added the coconut. It's deadly stuff. Also, Jhal Muri literally means spicy puffed rice :)
