    What settings in the software do you recommend for gaming, on the Equiliser and such? Great review btw.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The testing for this video was stock settings. I am also of the opinion that if a headset doesn't sound good at stock settings and you have to equalize it then it's not doing it's job very well. That's not to say that equalizing cant make something that sounds great sound even better. But if something sounds alright and you have to equalize it to sound good then I'm not the biggest fan. But that's because I hate having to equalize stuff. So I'm not the best person to ask. With that said most people enjoy a smile. Meaning you boost the lows and highs and leave the mids alone so it looks like a smile.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tried the Logitech G Pro X. But I would go with Logitech over these. As I can't stand Steelseries. I think their marketing is borderline predatory, that their products are massively overpriced, and they under deliver. But a ton of others love them. So, it is your call.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  ปีที่แล้ว

      I try to be as honest and objective as I can. There are some products that are just the bee's knee's that no matter what you do it sounds promotional because it is so good. But I've never found a SteelSeries product that fits in that category. Except for maybe the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless. Which still has some asterisks and only viable at the $250 price point over $350.

    With the background noise canceling on the heights, can it cancel out loud keyboard noises? Btw great video.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I may reduce it but I don't think it will cancel it out. As that type of sound is usually difficult to cancel out because it is so sharp, high pitched, and quick. Usually noise cancelling works because it can "hear" a constant sound and then use another sound to cancel that out. But when they are quick and fast it usually doesn't have enough time to work. Hopefully that made sense. However, I would recommend checking out Nvidia RTX Voice if your computer supports it. As that works amazingly well for like everything. It actually blows my mind.

    Bro I was thinking which arctis is the best? 3, 5 or Prime? I'm thinking of buying next month and I kinda need help. Thanks

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wish I could help you out more. But I haven't tried the 3 or the Prime.
      But if I'm guessing and from what I've heard from people I'd expect the 3 to be slightly worse than the 5 (simply because of number scheme). But if you looked at the specs you'd be able to tell what they added/removed. Along with looking at this physical headset. As I'm sure they are similar. Same with the Prime. But I've heard great things about the Prime so that would be the one I think I would go with out of these three.
      With that said I highly recommend also checking out the Corsair HS80 Wired. As that is currently my favorite gaming headset. As the microphone is unbelievably good. Sound quality is also great (for the price). Where you get nice rumbly lows (which is rare for a headset), strong bass, almost over emphasized mids (which is the biggest con and can muddy some things up), and good highs. Directional audio and imaging is also great. Where I can hunt people down in games just from hearing alone. Comfort isn't the best but is solid. I think it looks good too. I will be doing an actual review on it but I'm a bit behind of schedule. You can get most of my thoughts on my written review on best buy though under (sirgalahad).
      I would love to hear which one you went for and your thoughts on it.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really need to try the HyperX Cloud ALphas. As I've got this question quite a few times and can never answer it fully.
      From the HyperX headsets I've tried I prefer their sound over Steelseries. So I think I would go with HyperX over these. But that is just an assumption and not based on any testing or anything like that.

    I think it's just me, but my time in the army has messed up my ears a bit, it's hard for me to gear directional audio when playing games like tarkov, r6 is ok ish, but in tarkov I feel the sound of the weapon surrounds me and I have a hard time knowing if someone in in front of me or behind me. Could just be my ears but idk, any feed back or ideas to fix would be appreciated

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love the name. I also struggle with directional audio at times. I have a bunch of scaring in my ears from when I was a child that I think messes me up. The Army will also do that to you. I appreciate your service. For me what helped in regards to Tarkov sound is to go into a private match with bots. Personally, I go to Factory with bots on easy and amount to high on with tagged and cursed checked (so they run at you). Then I go through until time runs out just running around the map, or waiting in certain areas and listening. That way I can hunt the guys around me just using my ears. And when there are a lot of them running around me is the perfect time to stop and listen and figure out where they are and where they are going and then check. Hopefully that makes sense. As that allowed me to figure out audio cues better so I knew what I was listening for. It also made me do better in other games as well. This helped me a lot more than just playing. As you are focus training right? Because during normal play you can go 30 minutes without seeing anyone and then get shot once and die and then restart. Where here you fight like 50 - 60 dudes in the span of 30 minutes which helps a lot with sound and also just aiming and movement etc...
      Also, making sure that you have your game volume at a safe listening volume is important. So, for example if you have it at like 60 dB when shooting the rest of the sounds will be almost to quiet to hear. However, if you have your sound at 100 dB when shooting it can damage your ears but you can hear things well. I bought a dB app and also a device and what I do is go into Tarkov private game without any bots on factory. Go to a hallway. Then I shoot a few different guns and turn up my volume until I get about 75 - 80 dB average with gun shots across multiple guns. Which makes the other sounds about 60 - 70 dB. That way I'm not damaging my hearing during long play times. But at the same time can hear everything.

    I think the 7.1 sound didn’t work for me because I can’t hear the footsteps clearly and I can’t figure out which ways they are coming from 😔
    so my question is how can i make sure if it’s working or not. And what’s the best equalizer settings for modern warfare?

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, I found the surround sound implementation on this headset to not work well at all. Also, getting that to work is a complicated mess. I'm going to copy and paste from another comment which can help educate you on surround sound. Where it says Dolby switch it out with DTS as that is what this headphone uses. Put simply you need to make sure that the headset has DTS surround on, your console/PC has it set to DTS surround, that the game you are playing supports DTS, and that the game is set to that in order for it to work. That is the only way I know of making sure it is working or not. I recommend just using stereo as you will have a better experience. Explained more in-depth below. Last, I don't know the best equalizer setting for Modern Warfare as I don't do those sorts of things. Sorry.
      Below is taken from that other comment which pretty much was asking if they should use surround or stereo.
      So, headsets use Simulated Surround Sound. Which means that that take a signal and then create 5 channels and 1 subwoofer (5.1) or 7 channels and 1 subwoofer (7.1) to create a wider sound stage and more accurate sound. Or at least that's the basic idea and the ideal case. Unfortunately, that usually doesn't translate well.
      In reality, often times surround sound actually gives you inferior sound because of a stupid amount of factors (which is the part I still don't fully understand). As in order to get good sounding surround you have to have everything in a chain setup correctly. So, for example and for simplicity sake. Game 1 supports Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound. Game 2 supports DTS. Game 3 supports Stereo. We are using the Astro A50 on all three of these games. They only support Dolby signals. Which means that Game 2 and Game 3 won't sound good with surround sound because Game 2 uses a different algorithm (DTS) than Dolby and the A50's can't understand that language. For Game 3 the A50's would create 5.1 or 7.1 surround but since those channels don't actually exist you are going to get very poor directional sound and overall sound quality because it's making stuff up as it goes. Another way to think of it is that you have two speakers and you are imagining it has another 3 or 5 (5.1/7.1). However, Game 1 will sound great. Because it has specific channels for each channel and would give you a better experience over stereo. As long as you had A. Your computer/console set to 7.1, B. Your headset to 7.1, and C. your game set to 7.1. If any of those isn't set to 7.1 or setup incorrectly then you won't get good audio. Then there is the whole problem with optical only supporting 5.1 surround. But then we go into a whole other can of worms because that's true 5.1 not simulated and blah blah blah.
      So, in summary surround sound is moody. You have to check with every single piece of content you try to make sure it supports everything correctly or else you end up with inferior sound. Hence why I take the shortcut and just say to use stereo which works perfectly on everything without any setup and without any studying and checking things out. That's not to mention most games use HRTF which is the games version of surround sound which is supposed to be in stereo. But that's another can of worms. So, in teh end the mass majority of times you will have a better audio experience with stereo and won't be missing anything and it will give you a better experience because you are getting the full dynamic range and a whole bunch of other sound lingo without any processing. A lot of games these days also don't support surround or have that already built into the game which means you don't need it from an external source.
      So, to actually answer your question. No, you would not be selling yourself short by not using surround sound in the majority of cases. Your best bet is to look for an audiophile headphone that translates sounds super well. The A50's do a good job but I have found other headsets to do footsteps a bit better. You mostly want a headset that actually does the high end range better such as the Corsair Virtuoso which doesn't have the best overall sound quality. But ridiculous positional and footstep quality. Probably the best I've tried. I have a review on it. But that's the one I'd recommend for people who are super serious about competitive gaming. Where the A50's are more for the average gamer who wants good all around sound quality.olby but just switch Dolby with DTS for this headphone.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd recommend checking out the Logitech G335 and Edifier G4 TE. I have a review for both headsets on my channel for my full thoughts on them. But a quick summation.
      Logitech G335 I would classify as balanced sound with a slight treble focus. Where highs/mids are prioritized and then bass. Arguably I'd also call them "audiophile" sound as they have great separation, imaging, more balanced sound signature, with mostly accurate sound. But due to the cost these headphones aren't going to be amazing sounding. But I think for the price they do a solid job for a gaming headset for those who don't want a bass heavy headset.
      Edifier G4 TE is similar to the above. But it's been a long time since I tried them so don't remember them as well off the top of my head. But I think they have more balanced sound all around with more bass than the G335. But are very gamer looking.

      @@ThomasMuehler Would you say getting a Sorround sound headset is better than getting a stereo headset for gaming. Especially for competitive FPS?

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@David-pk5ke No. Surround sound headsets are.. complicated. As all headsets already have the ability to do surround sound and it is already built into games so you don't really gain anything from it. It's hard to explain without getting super nerdy.
      Explained a bit more. Stereo tends to actually give you better locational accuracy because less things need to happen for it to work as intended. And most modern games (and by modern I mean at least the past 5 years if not 10ish years) already have "surround sound" built into their games. Usually referred to as HRTF (or a version that does essentially the same thing) which works on EVERY headphone/earbuds/headset plugged into it as it is software based over hardware based. And headsets that say they have surround sound just mean that they come with a software to give it surround sound over the headset itself. But then you need all the chains in the link for it to work correctly which is hard to do and usually ends up in inferior sound as it isn't setup correctly. Which is why I say stereo is better as it just works.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A few things that I can think of is
      A. They have different settings. Such as mic volume. Or do/don't have it set to automatic volume where it will increase or decrease volume based on your volume which usually isn't a good setting.
      B. Which I think is most likely. They have the mic in a more ideal position on their face and are talking into it better. So, their is an ideal spot on the face the mic should be. Then you also want to make sure you are staying at a consistent volume.
      C. Different voice timbres will sound better or worse on the same mic.
      In general this will require a bit more research on your part of how to properly use a microphone. Which sounds ridiculous but is actually a skill and you'd be surprised at how many people do it incorrectly.

    Hyper X cloud 2 or the arctis 5? And why?

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tried the HyperX Cloud 2 so I don't know how much better it is. However, previous HyperX products I have tried have been comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, relatively well built, with excellent sound. Especially for the price. I also respect them as a brand more. So that would be my choice between it and the Arctis 5.
      My thoughts on the Arctis 5 are obviously in the video. It's a fine headset. But that's the thing. It's fine. It's not great. I'm also not a fan of Steelseries and think they push it too far with their marketing and overcharge for their products that constantly underperform. But they have great build quality, look good, and are relatively comfortable depending on your head.
      I'd recommend checking out my review of the Edifier G4 TE as that would be the one I would choose out of these three. As it brings everything to the table, does it better, and for less. It's very comfortable, has amazing sound (especially for the price point), and the microphone is great. Honestly, I can't think of any negatives other than its not a name brand (not important), and is rather large. Forewarning I did receive that headset for free for a review. But that doesn't bias my opinion in any way. I wish I would have just bought it so it doesn't sound like I'm selling out. But I've tried a bunch of those cheap headsets and rarely enjoy them. But when I was testing the Edifier G4 TE I found that in my testing it blew the socks off of almost all the other headsets I have tested. So the price to performance ratio there is nearly unbeatable. Which made me decide that when someone was looking for a headset in that price range that I would recommend it as I think it give you the best performance possible.

      Between the Cloud II and the Arctis 5 I'd go with the Cloud II. But I would recommend checking out my review for the Edifier G4 TE. As that would be the headset I would buy out of those three by a significant margin. It may sound like I'm selling out because I got that headset for free in exchange for a review. But I promise I'm not. I wasn't expecting it to perform well as I've received a bunch of cheap headsets that usually only perform so-so. I haven't tried the HyperX Cloud II so I can't tell you for sure which is better. It's on my list to try.
      But I much prefer HyperX as a brand and the products that I have tried have always impressed me. Especially, for the price. If I were in the market of a new headset I would buy HyperX first (based on general consensus of word of mouth and from my own personal testing of the Cloud Flight) and then if I didn't love it I would return them and get the SteelSeries.
      I think the microphone on the SteelSeries is probably better. But I would bet the sound quality and comfort is better on the HyperX. I'd also lean towards better overall build quality on the HyperX. But like I said this is all me making educated guesses and I could be completely wrong.
      I have heard favorable things about both of them from other reviewers and people I know.
      If you end up getting either one I'd love to hear your impressions on which one was better or just what you think of the choice you made. As I'm just interested and because it helps me recommend products for others.
