I learned the hand tapping of the punch when I was a teen taking Isshinryu Karate. Not sure what they called it. I find all the movement that boxers do to avoid punches is extreme and unnecessary when you start adding threats to them with grappling and kicks and throws. That movement will get you put down or kicked in the head fast.

problem with kyokushin styles are that they don’t allow you to punch to head. and yes, i know dojos do it, but majority dont. this is a terrible instinct/habit to pick up. kudo’s striking emphasizes close range and staying the pocket, possible for grappling and takedowns. ive read that the space helmet they wear for competition makes your head a bigger target so youre going have a harder time slipping punches.
Après oui quand on a JAMAIS fais de striking ou de boxe ça peut être déroutant, au judo on en fait 0 et en jujutsu japonais traditionnel en général c'est du bidon (sauf un club que je connais qui a une approche MMA). Really unfortunate that our grappling has collectively become so divorced from striking and even weaponry. I pretty much only pay attention to the grappling in MMA these days.
As great as judo is, Its very outdated, very risky, lot of back exposure. And heavily reliant on clothing grips which is totally stupid. Judo was made for the purpose of Japanese clothing(kimono) which hasnt been worn in the past 90 years. Shuai jiao is a much better option. Judo without leg attacks became very weak and not useful.
Striking is the easiest thing to do but the most difficult to execute. Striking is easy but to hit is not. 😂 The opponent is not a punching bag, they move around. That's why in Silat Sport we don't hit the head, other than for safety and cultural bias, hitting the body is easier than hitting the head. The body is a bigger and a stiff target. No matter if the opponent moving around, the body is there at the center. It is similar like shooting a gun, the police will always aim the body. Striking need confidence and judgement, that's what sparring is for. Only attack when we are confidence and must always have a good judgment because we still need to defend ourselves from the opponent attacks. There is a difference between committed attacks and fishing attacks. The committed attacks are the ones we really want to destroy the opponent, the fishing ones is just to make the opponent react and giving us the opening. But this only apply in ring fight, for tournaments. For street fight it is a different thing. There is no time to anything, it is just the faster the winner and luck do play a part. We are not prepared to fight, never. Nobody can BS me about it. 😁
Go learn boxing. Grappling and boxing goes really well in self defense but not good for pure aspect i.e. MMA or other full contact karate sparring 30 years of being a doorman, with an amateur boxing background and a blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, I have never used a kick nor a knee but a punch, throw and holding someone in a submission hold I have definitely used. Moreover, boxing teaches you how to knockout, punch in different angles, bob and weave, distance management and footwork, which is lacking in most striking arts I have observed
What about boxing with gloves and bare knuckle? Changes the game lot? Also, not kicking or kneeing yourself is one thing, but how do prepare for an opponent who does this to you?
I would think as a doorman being overtly offensive, which knees and kicks certainly are, would be out of the arsenal, doorman should be controlling and deescelating
@@michiel5160kicks and knees are good for mma and for the streets too. But in a real combat scenario on the streets, you won't think of kicking or kneeing someone. At the end, it's based on what type of strike or grapple you naturally decide to do first to gain the upper hand in a street fight. And punching and doing a double leg is way more natural than to kick, elbow, knee, and attempting to do any kind of judo style throw or foot sweep/leg sweep takedowns.
