It is a joy to experience this oratorio in its original form. Some conductors (let alone directors who insist on staging Handel’s oratorios) don’t keep to the libretto or the concept of the composer and librettist. I find that regrettable. After all, how else can a modern audience get to know the real thing? Or if directors insist on meddling with the oratorio (or opera for that matter) let them add the prefix “based on” to the title of the original!
