Giorgio Moroder has nothing to do with the Self Control song. "Self Control" is a song by Italian singer Raf, released in 1984. It was written by Giancarlo Bigazzi, Steve Piccolo and Raf, and arranged by Celso Valli. The only common thing Giorgio Moroder has with all these people is that they are all Italians and that Branigan's recording (the USA version) was arranged by Giorgio Moroder's protégé, the German Harold Faltermeyer (known for music for Top Gun , Beverly Hills Cop).
@@clapiotis Giorgio Moroder the Italian master synth. composer who produced songs for Donna Summer, Kylie Minogue , worked with Philip Oakley, sountracks for " American Gigolo ", "Midnight Express", "Top Gun" etc etc .
She belts it out on ALL her songs...safe to say that any LB song will satisfy that itch. But the suggestions in the comments are true classics...my pick "the lucky one"...pure sooaarring Branigan❤
What a voice! Gone too soon. For those of us old enough to remember--Merv Griffin LOVED her. He had her on his show many times and always called her "Branigan".
I use to impersonate her at my job..everybody would gather around me and I would sing this ! Lol Yes it was 1982 I think I was Senior in HS ...fun fun times!
Aww I remember my mom teaching aerobics to this back in the 80s! My favorite 80s track has to be "Object of My Desire" by Starpoint, but Laura Branigan's "Imagination" is another one of my favorite underrated 80s bangers.
I also love two more of her 80's singles "Spanish Eddie" & "The Lucky One". She was so amazing! There were so many great ladies of Pop around this same time period! Sheena Easton, Pat Benatar, Kim Carnes, Donna Summer & Olivia Newton-John to name just a few!
Enjoyes your reaction ...very entertaining. takes me back to the 80s ...this was a hugw hit. and Lorna Brannigan had that voice ...such power and control without hardly any effort. Happy Days the 80s Music..Films..Good times. Thanks for your fun reaction
Laura left us a treasure trove of amazing songs before her untimely death 20 years ago. I recommend you check out her hits in this order: How Am I Supposed to Live Without You, Solitaire, How Can I Help You Say Goodbye, Shattered Glass, The Power of Love.
The original of "Gloria" was an Italian pop song. Laura Branigan recorded some great songs. Unfortunately, she died suddenly at age 52 of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm while at her home on Long Island.
A very popular song back in the day, 1982/'83. Laura never really got the praise she deserved. Unfortunately she died in 2004, of a brain aneurysm at 52 years old. •Solitaire •Lucky Ones •Self Control The above tracks were some of her other hit tunes. Branigan had a 4 octave voice. I loved disco balls too. Remember dancing under them in the clubs...
Gloria was our anthem and blasted after every St. Louis Blues win in the second half of the 2019 NHL season on the way to our city's first ever stanley cup, with the blessing of her family. This song holds a special place on the heart of St. Louisans.
'Self Control' is the only other hit I know of, it's worth a listen. I'll also suggest Viki Lawrence - "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" 1973. Cheers.
I saw her in person- sweet , sounded EVERY BIT as good if not better live. God bless her! Check out that bass line- it's awesome!!!! I tried to play it! Never could do it that fast!😕
Hi Shon I have loved this version of Gloria so much. One of my All Time Favorite movies is titled GLORIA ~1980 . I ended up naming my first laptop and my kitten both Gloria . I enjoyed your reaction and comments very much. Thank you
If you go to a skating rink, you will see the crystal ball. I took my daughter to one a few years ago and they were rocking the crystal ball and great kickass 70's tunes...
This was her first hit record but my favorite song is "Self Control." After you listen to it, compare it to the track "Miami Vice" by GIMS, a very well known and popular French singer/rapper originally from the Congo.
Lovely reaction, thank you very much..another 80 s powerhouse Matia Bazar the songs called Ti Sento, Italian Disco banger with one of the most brillant Singer ever,Antonella Ruggiero
If you've never heard If Wishes Came True by Sweet Sensation I recommend that one. I also want to say I love your reactions. The way you get into the music and genuinely seem to be taken to a happy place is great to watch. Much love. And RIP Laura Brannigan. Gone too soon.
St Louis Blues song, when Eagles win the Superbowl they were in town, this was on in a Philly bar and they went with it and played it at the stadium when they beat Boston
Two GREAT movies of the 80s that are about strong women, and that have great music and actors/actresses: Flashdance and Working Girl. This song, “Gloria” is from Flashdance. But Working Girl also produced some big hits, most famously, “Let the River Run” by Carly Simon. Those movies and their music defined an era.
Never knew this was a cover I thought this was always her song really cool the first time I've heard this song was on the movie flashdance when genie was out there doing her skate solo I will not tell you the rest of the flash dance movie you got to watch l flashdance you got to watch l flashdance you got to watch flash dance
Solitaire, and Spanish Eddie, are other greats from Laura. I remember when she did this song on SNL, her voice was crap that night, so she came back another time and gave the people more.
Laura Branigan is such a powerhouse vocalist, with a fantastic range! "Solitaire", "The Lucky One", "Spanish Eddie", "Hold Me", "Self Control", "Power Of Love", "Over You".
Australian follower here, love your Reactions Bro, yep, she was taken far too soon, but another Couple of hers to check out are "Ti Amo and Self Control" IMO, cant wait for your Reactions
Hey Shon, You're luckier than us. It was very rare. for us to see videos back then, it had to be on television. or some kind of insider showing. There was no MTV. It either had to be on one of the Saturday dance shows that were only a half hour, or the artist had to be famous enough to get on prime time like Ed Sullivan. So a lot of this is a treat for us too. Now ge come on. t busy., young man, Because I was smart enough (some would say lazy enough) to have more time than most to listen to music, and I still haven't caught up. Isn't it an awesome undertaking?
The original is by a male singer, Umberto Tozzi, but it is in Italian, so you won't understand the lyrics. The music is pretty much identical. Several Laura's big hits were English covers of Italian songs.
Great 80's hit remember it fondly, she has such passion when she sings this song 🎵, Glory to Laura, Peace✌️ and Love❤️ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary,😊 Great Reaction👍 80's rule, 😂 Disco Ball's were Great when you hit it with a spotlight the whole place Glitters it's Magical.
Her song Self Control also got a lot of airplay back in the day. I learned a few years back that her estate provides a scholarship to one senior a year from her High School for excellence in performing arts.
She is awesome! She's got a few other songs as well, but this is probably one of her best in my opinion and unfortunately she passed away too young like a lot of entertainers but she left a good legacy so
You do what most don't: actually do some research into the person/band that you are reacting to. Very, very good of you. That is why I am subscribing to your reaction videos. Amazingly strong vocals. Great range, breath control, tone quality at all levels. soulful at times. she could belt it out and never loose tone or voice qualities. RIP Ms Branigan.
Great song i 1st heard this song when i played grand theft auto vice city stories back on the ps2 her other song Self Control is in the original Vice City game as well so i was 20 years old being born in 1987 when i heard this song in the game also please check out Alannah Myles Black Velvet which hit number 1 out of the US billboard hot 100
Really think you are great at the reaction videos I think you would like the Infectious grooves. It is a mix of R&B and funk and metal. I would love to see your reaction.
The original is in Italian, it is beautiful, and the instrumentation is almost exactly the same, but unless you speak the language you won't understand the lyrics.
Everyone is saying Self Control but really you need to listen to Power of Love. It's been done by several artists but none are better or more powerful than Laura's. Do it if you can man!
Yay! Finally! As always, love your reactions.. spot on !. thank you! Please check out one for me Genesis ( Phil Collins ) Domino principal / Domino Live at Wembley 1987
Man, the amount of times I've belted out Gloria since the 80s! Definitely check out "Self Control" and "Power of Love" from her, both are excellent!
R.I.P. Laura, beautiful voice, beautiful woman, beautiful soul gone too soon. 😢💜
She was brilliant. Gone way too soon. RIP, Laura!
She killed it. One of my favorite vocal performances of all time.
She OWNS this track 👌
I’m 54 years old so I grew up during this time and this song brings me back. Great memories of the 80s.
Gorgeous woman, figure, outfit topped with a killer song...so simple but probably the best video ever by a single female artist.
🇬🇧
Laura Brannigan "Self Control" & "The Power Of Love" 👌🎼🎶💃RIP Laura 😢💔
Love your reaction, 😊. Another banger from Laura is Self Control. Written by Giorgio Moroder. One of the greatest Disco Hits of the 80‘s.

She had powerful, amazing voice! RIP Laura!
Yeah “self control” it’s a banger 👌
Underrated artist who died too soon. "Solitaire", "Self Control", "How am I Supposed to Live Without You?"
This is an incredible song. And incredible singer....range and passion. And apparently left us too young. Thanks!
If you enjoy her power holding a note, the song to check out next is "Solitaire".
Her voice is so underrated listen to that range and power lol..as you kids would say, this song was a bop !
She was fantastic, RIP. ❤
❤❤❤ Laura! So talented and so many great songs. Her version of “The Power of Love” is amazing 🤩
RIP Laura
Anyone that has ever been to Italian weddings or dinner/dances at The Italian Hall knows the original.
This song brings me back to my disco days what a blast it was
Yeeeah! 40 years ago, this was jammin!

The song was also used in an ice skating routine in the movie "Flashdance".
It helps to take voice lessons for a best performance and range.
