ProRes is an Intra frame (every frame is it’s own entity) codec and H.265 is an inter frame codec (has key frames every so many frames and only calculates the changes in between) so in theory the ProRes should hold up the fine detail in trees quite a bit better, it should also grade better due to the higher bit rate.
Once uploaded to TH-cam or streaming services it’s negligible to the “average joe pilot” I use ProRes on my Cinelifters just for the reason that capturing more information allows me to reduce the jello.
@@OriginaldoBo Yeah man I agree for most people ProRes and the more hefty price tag of the Cine Version probably isn't worth it, that being said why not just grab the Air2s, I have one and the video from it as you know is pretty damn good.
Good video and quite refreshing to listen to a man's man articulate. FWIW, one slightly overlooked item is that the smart controller is incuded in the Cine version for the xtra $2K and not included in the lesser two packages. I'm going to pickup the Cine just so I can play around with 422 in Premiere Pro. Up til now I have only worked with 264.
I see myself and many people using ProRes with the cine Version for more flexibility in postproduction but being honest is overkill for most people. I’ve been using the 2 pro and it still does what I need it to do, I’m upgrading only cause I know technology improves user experience as well. Let’s just hope for DJI not limiting the base model to make us go for the expensive version lol
With drones it's hard to find anything other than say the inspire series that shoots something other than h2.64 and h2.65. You really need to look at dynamic range and color bit depth as h2.64 and 2.65 have come a long, long way in what they can handle.
Completely agree Ken. In fact, unless the Mavic 3 has some really awesome feature that I must have, I'm gonna just keep flying the Mavic 2 Pro until my skills demand I upgrade. Thanks for doing this video! It's really informative.
Thanks man, great video and explanation. I notice with 10bit H265 from the M2Pro I can scrub like butter on the iPad Pro with LumaFusion. For this reason, if I were getting this drone, I would go with the regular version. I don’t generally edit on FCP. I’m also no professional. Bummer about the remote, but it is what it is. I noticed you mentioned prores is 10 bit. The M3 does do 10bit with the h265/h264 right? I’m also concerned with the fact that if I do throw it in LumaFusion, it is compressed a SECOND time. Which would degrade quality. But like you, I simply don’t see the difference. Maybe in low light?
I felt that last statement about knowing how to leverage your own equipment. I bought a mavic 2 pro a few years ago and was so excited to fly it but didn’t invest in filters and didn’t take the time to really hone in on my settings. I have some video from Sorrento, Italy that would’ve been mind blowing but is noisy as all hell! Even got some blurry stills! I say this to say, Ill bet there will be a lot of people going to the Cine, but still get blown out by people still using their mavic 2 pro. I am sitting on my hands to upgrade to the regular model but until I run into an actual limitation, I can’t justify the jump Thanks again for the info!
The fact is, I was so hyped into buying the Cine version but after watching this video a few times you put the reality of the Cine purchase is not for me at all. So, what am I going to do? Buy the Mavic 3 combo version with a Tripletec pro tablet and I honestly believe that would be the best decision. Original, thank you for clarifying what ProRes is intended for and it’s not intended for me. Plus I save a few bucks at that.
Great video as usual Ken! Another key point for us DaVinci Resolve users, ProRes is not natively supported in Resolve, clips must be converted to DLog by a 3rd party software prior to bringing it in and doing the color grade. I personally will not be getting the Cine version of the M3.
Absolutely agree. Regarding the rest of the super hyped Mavic3 all the features are available in the Autel Evo2 Pro at $1800. The Evo 2 Pro is 6K video drone with one Sony 20 mp 8x zoom camera. 40 minutes flying time and an sd card up to 1 tetrabyte.
Meh, I picked up an E2P 6 months ago after years of flying DJI stuff. It’s okay for stills, but it just doesn’t fly like a DJI drone. Very difficult to get smooth footage. Image transmission isn’t nearly as good as Ocusync either. I like how quiet it is, and the interface is easy to use.
Funny how sometimes editing can mask any camera used. I saw a DJI FPV camera mistaken for one costing tens of thousands more by experts in the cine world. I’m just an average drone guy, but Ken broke this down to where I could understand that I’ll be just fine with the $2000 version. I don’t even need the Fly more combo. One 40 minute battery is usually more then enough time for me to shoot. Let alone (3) 40 minute batteries.
what if I am a hobbyist that uploads videos to TH-cam but I do color correct and editing in Premiere Pro. I also use proxies for easier and smoother less sluggish editing. But I mostly upload the final exported to TH-cam after editing in Premiere Pro. Would I still fall under the standard Mavic 3 category? Would appreciate your input man

Not really interested in the Mavic 3. 48 mph would be kind of cool, but the Mavic 2 handles everything just fine, when you can actually take off without interference from the DJI geofencing overlords. I couldn't take off the other day with the mavic 2 so I just used the evo II. There are just too many hoops to jump through with DJI.
you hit the nail in the head. Most will never fully use ProRes. and they will be happy with h265. Personally i don't plan on buying a mavic 3 Cine, because i own a Inspire 2 with X7 lens and CinamaDNG license. its better to spend money and upgrade their Computer
I find it pretty difficult to color match the mavic 2 pro to my xt4 in post. I think the regular mavic 3 with the M4/3 sensor will probably get me closer to the xt4 and that’s why I would buy one. The prores is no big deal honestly I rarely use my atomos with my fuji as I don’t see that much more flexibility in post compared to h265. Also the m1 MacBook handles fuji h265 very nicely, heck my iPad Pro eats h265 for breakfast.

Thanks for explaining it so well, and I agree that most of us don't need ProRes. And even more great advice about updating your computer for these large video files coming out of the Mavic 3. See you at SpinUp.
What people also forget to mention is that a big portion of the $4,999 is the $1,199 remote that it comes with so when you deduct that we're at an $800 difference and for that you get an extra set of ND filters, 1TB of SSD and ProRes.... The question is "are those three things worth $800 for my workflow? I think for 99% the answer is no. We've been making more than due with shitty DJI H265 files.
Ken.............I did watch a few videos of you drinking on set and I agree with Drone Dude. A bit out of character. You are a smart guy. No need for alcohol. Just bought the EVO 2 Pro 6K V.2 and the S.C. V.2............................Love coming your way from Canada.
Good video! Makes it understandable. Will be going from Mavic 2 pro to Mavic 3 regular fly more combo. And this was posted before the launch, but prices are a bit steeper! Unless you really really need prores 422 hq (gigantic file sizes), can't see too many people buying the cine version. For 5k vs 3k USD for the fly more combo of the regular version. To be honest editing and grading in h.265 on Resolve from my mavic 2 pro, and nearly obsolete computer does fine. Ok older dual cpu 36 core workstation, so not your average pc. But old now. Mostly upgrading for better resolution and 4/3 sensor and low light. Still not happy with remote controller, wish they had retained led from mavic 2 pro with flight info.
Hey Ken, excellent presentation and stuffed with a lot of quality information. Your explanations were presented very well and easy to understand for the none tech’s. This will hopefully help the no e tech’s. Well Done
Am I the only guy here that sees that the cine - if you want the NEW CONTROLLER WITH OCCUSYNC 3.0 transmission is why the price increase. Lets put it together. The RTK 300 has a "enterprise" controller with " ENTERPRISE OCCUSYNC" that coincidentally has the same transmission length as Occusync 3.0.... And lets look at the DJI store. To buy an extra one of those controllers ON THE STORE TODAY for the RTK price confirmed - $1200.... So take the "more combo of est. 2700 ... add the 1200... " = 3900 ... and then ... how do we get to the rumored 5k... EZ DJI STORE price right now on a bucket to get pro res is $500 - for the x5 etc. So ..... If they include one or 2 years BOOM there ya go. Obviously you are losing a bit here I guess if we subtracted the base cost of the controller for the regular cine but .... All things being equal this kind of lines up right ? Am I missing anything ? - Think I am right here.
wow! that price for the cine! I wonder how all the influencers that both need to be a bit authentic in their reviews and also at the same time cater to what a sponsor need them to say will tackle this. For me it's not about divide usage between consumer and pro. I film for a living and I would divide my gigs in to: 1. High end commercials (I get to do sometimes) and 2. Everyday corprorate content. (I do most of my days) For the high end work we can afford to have a top class drone operator with a maxed out Inspire or even fly red or Alexa mini. The budget is there. For everyday content the dronework need to be done by the photographer that just takes of "and do some drone establishments or something" and we just ad small extra fee for the drone (M2Pro). These content client do not usually have the budget for one extra in staff and pro drone tech but they can pay a small extra amount if an agille solution can be fount to get a few droneshots. There are no gigs in between where I can ad on the invoice what I need to cover the price of Mavic 3 cine. So the only customers left for the Mavic 3 Cine is the high end pros that would just use it as a special case drone and it will be one of many drones they have. And a few top level content creators that can afford to crash a 5k drone and walk away from that financially all good (Benkamin Ortega, Jon Olson, Peter McKinnon ish...) But the market that M2Pro had in pro content creation....that market will not likely do the Mavic 3 cine.
I agree. Having such a great pro3 and don’t know how to post prod, it will be sad. Even with the mini2, you can have very good quality after post production. Thanks for you great video 🤩

Clearly explained. Thanks for taking the time.
What is the difference between H264 and H265?
one is more efficient, H.2655 is slightly smaller on the final export
Thanks Keep up the good work
No wonder why these are coming with TB storages... Makes sense now. Thx
yeah ...but they are gonna crap on us with the smart controller ...not give it to us in the standard fly more ..and then make us pay a grand for it seperately ...which blows bro !!
Excellent video. Exactly what I was looking for and helped me make a decision.
Thnx for explaining
Thanks for explaining it so well, and I agree that most of us don't need ProRes. And even more great advice about updating your computer for these large video files coming out of the Mavic 3. See you at SpinUp.
Great professional advice. Thank you Dobo!
I dont feel safe with 4,500$ flying
More than 4500$
Ken.............I did watch a few videos of you drinking on set and I agree with Drone Dude.
We will have to see how it all performs , I’m going to be optimistic
Hey Ken, excellent presentation and stuffed with a lot of quality information. Your explanations were presented very well and easy to understand for the none tech’s. This will hopefully help the no e tech’s. Well Done
I agree with the above comment. 🌞
That's the review I need! Thanks
Not the only one. Only one of a few tho it seems.
good advice ! thank yo
Great explanation. Straight to the point.
wow! that price for the cine!
I wonder how all the influencers that both need to be a bit authentic in their reviews and also at the same time cater to what a sponsor need them to say will tackle this.
For me it's not about divide usage between consumer and pro. I film for a living and I would divide my gigs in to:
1. High end commercials (I get to do sometimes) and 2. Everyday corprorate content. (I do most of my days)
For the high end work we can afford to have a top class drone operator with a maxed out Inspire or even fly red or Alexa mini.
And a few top level content creators that can afford to crash a 5k drone and walk away from that financially all good (Benkamin Ortega, Jon Olson, Peter McKinnon ish...)
But the market that M2Pro had in pro content creation....that market will not likely do the Mavic 3 cine.
Thank you!
Brilliant, love your way of saying how it is, straight to the point, totally get it.
I agree. Having such a great pro3 and don’t know how to post prod, it will be sad. Even with the mini2, you can have very good quality after post production.
Thanks for you great video 🤩
Why the hell is there a 2500 usd gap just because of prores? I am confused. Does the cine have more features? It has to, come on. Wouldn't hardcore pros just get the Inspire?
SSD and smart controller, pro res licensing etc
@@OriginaldoBo yes and more filters
I sold my inspire 2 with x7 camera and 4 lenses for 8k. Dont like to carry the inspire 2 arround anymore and setting it up every time. Annoying. I definitely will buy the cine version.
If you have to ask “what is ProRes?” Then you don’t need it.
Awesome explanation of Prores. Makes it easier for me to now to make the decision. I agree in taking the money and upgrading the computer. Thank you.
Damn your attitude and content has improved big time
Thanks for explaining the difference
That's it! New favourite real taker 🔥
Great explanation. I would honestly have gotten the Cine version if I were to buy it when it releases, but now I'll settle with the lesser version, although with the smart controller :)
I did not know about ProRes, so great info!
Keep up the good work!
Great breakdown of the Cine version definitely not the version for me at the moment....flymore combo it is
DaVinci resolve doesn’t handle pro-res.
Thank you very useful information 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Is TH-cam considered social media?
Great Info as always!!! 👍👍
I enjoy all of your videos! Thanks. Can’t wait to see the Mavic 3 review.
good info thanks !
Need ProRes ? Just convert your H.265 to ProRes and enjoy!
i use zcam too!
Yes, agree, saving money for upgrading computer or just pick less gigs and spend more time with the family.
This is perfect. Ken you explained it perfectly. 👍
Very well explained.
The Cine will allow you to shoot into h264 or 265 and Prores when you choose correct?
Yes you can chose h.265 or h.264
