JHud is that rare vocalist who's voice is getting more powerful and better as she's aging. The command she has on her voice now at 39 is extraordinary 🙏 Can't wait to see if she gets some respect from the white people's awards (a.k.a Oscars) for her astonishing portrayal of Aretha Franklin in Respect

It's mostly due to training, which she didn't start getting until later in her career. Plus, she takes care of her voice.

She's always been able to hit higher notes (because she's a Soprano) -- but she wasn't able to consistently sustain them like she does now. One example of this is her song "Where You At?" Towards the end of the song, she is supposed to belt an A5 (almost in the Whistle register). In most of her live performances of the song, she skipped over this part or lowered the key. Now, however, she hits (and sustains) the note (and higher ones) like it's nothing.
This woman is just gifted on so many levels
This woman delivers every time. She knows of what she sings, having come from one of Chicago's worst South side neighborhoods, singing in the church, competing on AI, losing her family members to murder (including her beloved mother), winning an Oscar....She has taken the bad with the good, with grace, beauty, and astounding talent.
She was put through the fire for the Catholic church

She really took one of the most powerful and important songs for African American culture and just made it even more powerful while not even breking a sweat. She made that look easy, and she absolutely fucking killed it.

This is honestly the first time I have ever had Jennifer on repeat. Her voice is tremendous and she sang her face off for Denzel.
This is an absolute beast of a song to cover. She slayed it left right and center. Doesn't get much better then this.

And then she was able to bring it right back down after pushing out all that power and volume! Truly one of, if not, her best live performance ever in my humble and honest opinion!! It was a perfect masterclass performance & it just punched me right in the soul HARD (in the best emotional/feeling all the feels way possible)‼️
I have no idea how she lost American Idol but I'm so happy her career still took off the way it did. This woman deserves the best of everything, one of the most incredibly talented vocalists performing today. She's been my personal idol since Dreamgirls.

The thing that I find so heartstopping about her delivery in this performance was not only the sheer power and talent of it, but also how much emotion she managed to evoke every time she sings the word "long". It gets stretched out more and more throughout the song, until it reaches that _insane_ stretch at the end of the song, illustrating just how long and hard that wait/struggle being sung about has lasted. The way she sings tells the story more than even the lyrics do. Chills, absolute chills.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I consider Jennifer Hudson one of the last of the greats. What singers of this Gen are going to sing our tributes when Jennifer and the others are gone🥺
