Seeing the people doing all of this hard hand work, gives me hope for the human race, and makes me happy to see a beautiful landmark be rebuilt to its rightful glory
For a quick report, this was well done. Brava! to the reporter. Thank you for showing some of the paintings and details that have been obscured from age until now.
And it took them roughly 5 years to get this wonderful piece of history that is part of Paris and been parts of movies and tv shows that we known it from.
Rebuilt stronger than before. Beautiful isn’t it. Perhaps it was meant to burn so that new life and workmanship will make it last another thousand years. It’s a miracle. ❤
Absolutely beautiful, I'm so happy they rebuilt it. I don't care what religion it is, beautiful religious architecture such as this should never be destroyed. Possibly the highest form of art mankind can create.
Let this go to show we as humanity are still capable of such beautiful architecture and art! Let us use it more often. That being said amazing work at restoring Notre Dame from the ruined state it was in!
I am a Muslim, but i am eager to visit the beautiful Notre Dame cathedral once it's rebuilt. I was heartbroken when i learned what happened to this incredible masterpiece which survived two world wars. I had visited the Notre Dame cathedral in 2011 with my parents during our holiday visit in Paris, i was only 5 years old. The restored cathedral is in the hearts and minds of every person alive who ever set foot in this glorious building. It is a joy for me -- many years ago I was in Paris during my architectural studies and it was an unforgettable experience. // Que Dieu bénisse à jamais la cathédrale Notre-Dame.
It's completely crazy. I am certainly French and Parisian but before this fire, the cathedral was part of the landscape, it was timeless, it was part of the decor and I didn't notice it, just a little thought "it's still really beautiful". Since this fire I understand the words of the poet "you miss a single being and everything is depopulated".
I had visited Notre dame catedral in 2011 and felt the positive energy there… Picked up a brass coin (Mary with infant Jesus on it) as a souvenir and even today I carry it in my purse along with Ma Durga silver coin…
The roof framing of Notre Dame was of oak timbers as was the main framework of the spire the roof covering was of toxic lead. The ceiling inside however is of vaulted limestone. For this portion of the transept vaulted ceiling, every stone must be cut and fitted precisely or the ceiling will fall down. This is not just the vaulted ribs, many of which need to be recreated but every infill stone. Only then can the temporary supports both under the vaulted ceiling but those outside under the exterior wall flying buttresses. It is one of the great engineering feats of the middle ages, that structures of this type will stand by themselves if every piece is fitted with precision and why the public prefers that this happen using as long as it takes despite any politician.
Great news. I was staying about 3 blocks from Notre Dame when it caught fire. We saw and smelled the smoke. People immediately went to see what was going on. We watched from about 200 yards away as Notre Dame burned. It was literally like watching history go up in flames.
I tried calling the Notre Dame cathedral a year ago and the machine that answered spoke in English and in French and said they are reopened now and they are having local France church services there, it’s not open to the public yet as the grand reopening isn’t until December 8th
I got to give it to the franch to pull that off in only 5 years. It was sad to watch a piece of history burning on the new live 5 years ago. I am glad they rebuilt it.
Honestly, the fire shouldn't have been seen as a tragedy, nobody died, and we all knew it would be rebuilt. Sure, it took a while, but the building has new history to its legacy. Instead, view it as a sign that even if the politics around a project like this might be controversial and complex, the trades people who can actually get it done never went away, and if anything, can apply what they learnt here elsewhere in the world.
It took a while? LOL! If not for President Macron's kind of arbitrary and very optimistic deadline, the reconstruction wouldn't even have started yet! They'd still be arguing over how to rebuild the thing.
@@frontenac5083 True, but that's just part of the history now, and will simply be a footnote in the building's history. The craftmen who got it done in the end still existed, regardless of there being a deadline for the Olympics or not. In ten years time, you probably wont even remember a delay.

Instead of rebuilding the roof trusses in steel to avoid fire and lightning problems, wood was used. For the money available, the trusses could have used stainless steel and would have lasted thousands of years. Poisonous lead was used for the roof. Next, the TITANIC will be rebuilt without enough lifeboats for historical accuracy. I guess no changes were wanted for fear it would be messed up like they did with the Louvre.
There will be grand opening of Notre Dame cathedral, and at the very center of the altar will be "The Last Supper", as we saw it during Olympics opening ceremony. France is a pagan country, so we can't expect anything good for Christianity from France.
Because they are in ruin for hundred or even thousands of years! That's how they are known, in ruin, whereas Notre-Dame is still used for worshipping, and also because it is known as finished and completely built
This was only possible because of photos and 3d models that were recorded before the fire. More ancient things would just be guessing and would turn into something new as an AUTHENTIC restoration would be impossible.
Have they put any fire breaks in the roof this time? If there had been any previously the fire would have been much less devastating. York Minster learned this lesson in its fire, but apparently France paid no attention.
@@modgal York Minster also used oak again after its fire, for the same reason. Which is they know how the building will behave over hundreds of years with an oak roof. If they use something else they don't know what will happen in future. Oak can accommodate some movement in the walls or vaults for example, whereas steel cannot. Also steel softens very fast in fire and if there were a small fire oak would remain strong whereas steel would collapse. But yes I hope they've put some fire prevention measures in; having firebreak walls to partition the space into sections is very effective for example.
When the building was 100% finished, the Christian teachings there were also finished, no one went to church anymore, today who still believes in the church, most of them are empty and some have changed function. Most of the people choose to become atheists
