How to Tie a Picture Frame Cord

- This is one way to tie a cord on the back of a picture frame.
I've been shown a number of ways of how to tie the cord on the back of a picture frame, some more elegant than others and some designed to use the least amount of cord possible, which can be fiddly.
Over the years I have found this approach easy to teach and, for my students, easier than other methods to remember.
I use a low-stretch polyester fibre cord, as I find it easy to handle and looks good. Whether you wire or cord, you should still check the fittings and cords every few years to ensure they're all still stable and strong.
A perfect tutorial. What TH-cam should be for 👍👍👍👍

This was helpful, thank you. Going to use this method to hang a bigger canvas.
Hi Evonne,
Thank you for your comment.
For really big canvases I recommend two hooks and no cord at all. This does depend on whether the canvas is going to hang as a landscape or as a portrait. The reason I do two hooks on a big canvas is that it gives the picture more stability. I do this for really big picture frames and mirrors too. Once the size is over a 1m then I like to use two hooks. If someone bumps a big picture on a cord, and it slips, then the force on the hook is much greater. Good luck with the cord tying and hanging pictures.

@@rivercraneframing5255but you’re using 2 hooks here too…do you mean no rope or string and hooked onto screws on the wall? What if we use 2 hooks, cord, and a brass hook that looks like a ✅ and you bang the nail on the angle?
@@Briannafrancis-e9g When I use the 2 D-rings and cord, then yes, I expect my client to have 1 hook on the wall for the cord. The brass hook you describe is fine for lighter pictures, but if it's heavy, you need a better fitting on the wall.
For very large, very wide pictures, I put two fittings on the picture and no cord. I then ask the client to put 2 fittings on the wall. This means the artwork is better supported.
Awesome, thank you.
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊

You could go into voice-over recording with a voice like yours 👌
Great cheers 😊
Can I use this cord for heavy picture frames too?
This is a tricky question. I don't use cord on very large frames. (How big is very big!)
Depending on the weight, I may use two single straps, one on either side and then tell my clients to use two fittings on the wall. For some larger pictures, I use cord, but ensure I use a heavy picture framing cord with the correct breaking strain.
Be aware that once your glass is over 1m x 1m, the thickness should be 3mm and your weight of glass goes up from 5kg to 7.5kg.
Thanks!
Thank you!
