  • I have always given Woodland Photography a wide berth. It doesn't give me the same buzz as other forms of landscape photography. But, the time has come for me to explore why and whether I am right to cast it aside…..can a day in Torridon change my mind?

Beautiful video. I fully concur with your view about how difficult it is to get great woodland images. Yet on the other hand it is so refreshing when you manage exactly that after endless hours of roaming the forest and the landscape. Very nice images … keep it up.

Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment - much appreciated. I do find it very difficult at the moment to find a decent shot, but hopefully, with time and patience I may do so. I'm certainly looking forward to exploring this "new" genre of photography….Dean

Great video. I really got into woodland photography in lockdown. No being able to travel I only had woodland to photograph. I believe it’s really brought my photography on to another level. It really done train you eye for that one moment of light, texture, and form. I would recommend it to any photographer no matter how experienced they are. Again brilliant work mate.

Hi Steve…thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I definitely find it a lot different from coastal photography. More challenging, I guess with all the chaos in the woodland. But it is something I'm looking forward to doing more, especially as Torridon isn't that far from where I live. Keep up the great work Steve…..Dean

Really enjoyed this video Dean and i know exactly what you mean about woodland photography, I’ve always given woodland a wide berth but recently I found myself enjoying it to the point that I’m loving it. I find Simon Baxter’s video’s fascinating and admire the compositions he finds. So here’s to learning something new 🍻

Great video as usual Dean. I can totally relate to your switch to woodland photography. I only used to photograph seascapes including LE and everything had to be clean and in place. I’ve been attempting to try other genres particularly misty woodlands and it’s very challenging even with the mist. I’ll look forward to your next adventure.
All the best from sunny Devon 😎☀️👍🏼

Hi Chris….thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a comment….very much appreciated. I share your thoughts re woodland, but I’ll persevere and hopefully the penny will drop and it all makes sense one day…..Dean

Take it from someone who actually works with senior demented dogs; they can learn new tricks. So, I'm sure you can. I struggle with fine-tuning my woodland composition, so I liked your notion of blurring the background to create separation.

That must be a very rewarding experience for you to work with the senior demented dogs…..wonderful. Thank you for watching this episode and taking the time to comment. It is very much appreciated and I will take encouragement from your advice. Dean

Keep going, Dean. It is tricky. I come from the chaotic Australian woodland and forests

Thank you David…..it is very tricky, but I'll keep trying as I was surprised by much I enjoyed it - which is the main thing…..

Tricky stuff that Scottish wood. It keeps falling down and misbehaving. I think you did well to come away with some nice shots.

Hi Neville…..I certainly find it very tricky. I'll keep trying although I think I'll always prefer coastal photography, but it's good to step out of my comfort zone every now and then…..
