The Differences Between All of Corsair's PSU Lines

  • To make things simple we generally recommend the Corsair RMx line.
    ► Corsair RM650x from Amazon amzn.to/35GN8b5
    ► Corsair RM750x from Amazon amzn.to/36IGII0
(I do get a small cut from any purchase made through the above Amazon affiliate link.)
Corsair PSUs. What's the difference between the VS, CV, CX, GS, CS, TX-M, RM, RMx, HX, AX, SF, RMi, HXi and AXi lines? Their naming scheme is confusing. They all look the same. They all point back to the 80+ standard.
We try to give a general, techno babble free, overview.
    0:00 Start
    3:19 VS Line
    - 80+ White/Regular 80+ (lowest 80+ level)
    - the internals are based on an old design, what you buy if you want quality but really can’t afford anything else
    - only sold outside of the US
    4:01 CV Line
-VS line tweaked to make it more efficient (internally the active Power-factor correction (PFC) circuit section is upgraded and tuned to achieve the 80 PLUS Bronze efficiency mark)
    - 80 Plus Bronze
    4:29 CX Line
    - latest iteration is CX2017 which is supposedly meets 80+ Silver performance but is only advertised at 80+ Bronze
    - good +12V rail
    6:03 GS Line (discontinued)
    - 80+ Bronze
    - aimed towards the budget gamer
    - featured RGB lights
    6:49 CS
    - first of the mid range PSU series
    - 80+ Gold
    - good +12V rail
    7:39 TX-M
    - there was an older TX line which was revived as TX-M in 2017
    - 80+ Gold
    - all Japanese capacitors (suggests better quality for PSUs)
    - An 135mm rifle bearing fan is used to keep costs down, but on the plus side, this fan lasts longer than the plain sleeve bearing ones.
    9:21 RM
    - 80+ Gold
    - based on RMx 2018 design with some small changes to make it cheaper (eg. they used a cheaper fan)
    - supports Modern Standby
    - RM uses Teapo/Elite caps
    10:53 RMx
    - 80+ Gold
    - has capacitors in the cables
    - RMx uses a CORSAIR-designed low-noise rifle bearing fan.
    - RMx uses the NipponChemicon/Nichicon caps
    11:44 HX
    - basically the RMx but 80+ Platinum
    - the HX750 is a frequent reviewer favorite
    12:06 AX
    - 80+ Titanium
    13:18 SF
    - 80+Gold and 80+ Platinum versions
    - SFX power supply for SFF builds
    - all Japanese capacitors (suggests better quality for PSUs)
    14:23 RMi/HXi/AXi
    - option to switch from multiral to single rail
    - can digitally monitor temp, wattage and fan RPM

Certainly helps to have someone comparing all of the Corsair PSUs and comparing them. Seems like there's quite a few bonuses for going from RM to RMx, the capacitors could help with possible fluctuations in power--which certainly sounds like it helps with power consumption and having an even flow of electricity to prevent any shortage--modern standby helping with starting up my computer faster and idle/sleep operations, and a quieter fan doesn't hurt. This video definitely helps me understand my position on those mid-to-high range PSUs, so yeah, really great stuff!

@@hwsph You knocked it outta the park! Why Corsair will flood the market then leave the consumers confounded and scratching their heads to understand the SKUs is quite puzzling! The way you grouped them into tiers and a hierarchy, I give you the thumbs-up 👍 for that! I certainly know what to get now... It was easier with EVGA for me

    • @hwsph

550w-650w should be fine for this. As for the line, if you want to splurge the rm or rmx are always solid choices if you want to spoil your rig. If not, the cs or cx lines are good fits for this build.

    can I use a type 3 8 pin CPU lead on a type 4 PSU (sf 600)?

Yo do you thing its fine to use the green cx750 that I've had for 5 years for a new build. Heard a bunch of people complaining about it saying its not but the Amazon and bestbuy reviews are good. And its been flawless for me

      @hwsph  3 ปีที่แล้ว

since it's working fine for you that's golden, no need to change it

@@hwsph what kind of protections does it have? Like over voltage and stuff. And also I've had it on a 980 and quad core cpu so its never really been pushed, 3080 will definitely push it. So like idk it might a bit risky to use it a power hungry 10600k ans 3080

So basically the difference between TXm and RMx is the capacitors in the cables for clean power delivery

Is there any differences in cables between the hx850 and the rmx850 in stiffness or length ? As i am plannig a mid tower case but the cables in the rmx are already stiffy and i got some extensions already but now i decided to go with th hx and wanted to verify this?

I have an old ax1200 Gold and it still works great but cant get any Corsair cable mod cables for it. So i have to look for another 1200 type PSU so im looking for a good PSU, not a cheaply made one. Which one should i go for? I try to keep the price under $300 but im aiming for as low as i can go, like, $150. I run a lot of hard drives, and have a powerful system, just my motherboard alone needs a minimum of 500 watts. Is why i need such a large PSU.

I'm not up to speed with all of the international prices but based on what others have said here the RM line is around $150. Sounds like your current PSU is doing just fine though, is it worth it just so you can have colored cables? :)

Is the CX650 and CX650M the same? I can’t find any cx650 anywhere.

    • @hwsph
      @hwsph  3 ปีที่แล้ว

the m means it's fully modular, which is nice to have so I would get the cx650m if you're on the fence about it
