Did this with a friend we both ended up doing fake jumps to trick each other out and if you saw them jump last second ground pound gets them... it's a game of bluff but if you have the lead you are better waiting
Doing a ground pound at the bottom of your jump is a nice little strat that works good. You can ground pound one frame away from the ground for a quick attack. Its all mind games and just jumping to condition your opponent then wait for the slick ground pound

This minigame is literally just sitting they're and waiting for someone to do something since playing aggressive is punished. Only way to mind game people is if you ban passive play in the minigame. I've had this minigame go to timer because playing aggressive, even slightly, is punishable

Yeah, with human players, this mini-game tends to end up in a stalemate situation. Sometimes faking out your opponent works, but it usually ends up with them reading it and just slapping you anyways. 😅
I feel like people know this and think it's a solved game, but no, this is only if you ground pound from a high height, you can ground pound just as you're barely touching the ground, meaning that they probably won't have enough time to react to it and they'll get hit
I can assure you, they can in fact easily dodge it even when you do that. My 42 year old sister dodged that strategy easily and she doesn't play many videogames.

This is the most fun Duel Minigame of all Mario Party. Not only the concept is great, but the execution as well because: You can fake low and high jumps, and you don't have to be at the top of your jump to ground pound. So you can high jump, wait until you almost touch the ground and then ground pound for a surprise attack. Also, if both of you are fake jumping and your opponent decides to attack, depending of where you are in the air, using the ground pound, you can stall in the air and barely avoid the hit. This is a beautifully made Minigame, because it encapsulates all that Mario Party represents as a chaotic and fun game, and I refuse to be told otherwise!
This is where mind games come in. You can just jump normally to trick your opponent into thinking you're attacking. You can also time your ground pounds differently, right before you touch the ground.

@@FonkyMonky24you can ground pound very late into your jump, essentially right before you land, or you can ground pound instantly after jumping. you don’t have to do it at the summit of your jump like a cpu, so mixing up the timing can mess with someone who is just trying to react to yoyr jumps. ground pound really late into your jump and you’ve caught them thinking you weren’t ground pounding. do it really early in your jump and now they have less time to react because they thought they had an extra second to consider.
but that's the thing you can circumvent all the mind games by just waiting to see if your opponent ground pounds if you have fast enough reflexes, you can just wait them out.
The mindgames of this minigame are the point, and just because you're in the lead doesn't mean you'll win. My wife managed to beat me when I had 4 lives to her one. Against CPU it's easy, but against another player it's stressful.
If you're reaction time is super slow sure, it's hard. I literally close my eyes and listen for the ground pound sound to go off. I never get hit. Anyone jumping before they hear or see the flip is just bad.
There is tech, short hopping. You can short hop to feint a ground pound. Mix this up with regular hops, change your ground pound timings like pounding right before you hit the ground

Thing is you can also do a really late jump so they jump to early and hit themselves as well but with humans the mind game kicks in. With CPU his guide works really well
The flip for the ground pound is loud and the animation is long. I've seen people just close their eyes while playing and reacting to the sound of the ground pound. Humans naturally react quicker to audio compared to visual stimulus. The game becomes easier by closing your eyes. That's not a well designed game.
My strategy is to jump a few times, then on one jump ground pound right before hitting the ground again. To avoid getting slapped, I'll jump about half a second after my opponent which will pretty much keep you in a safe zone until they land again
There are some serious mind games you can do in this to help you out. Jumping a few times without ground pounding and ground pounding at the end or beginning of your jump are great strats
literally the first time i played it i just forfeit by hitting myself as me and the other player could tell when the ground pound happened and could dodge it every time, the ground pound shouldve been like B3313 (no midair pause, just rocket down).
You can try but youll still slap yourself no matter what against any competent player. The amount of time it takes to groundpound is too long and entirely reactable. If you have any sense of skill you can dodge any pound any not react to fake jumps.
I played an online duel where I figured out quickly that attacking first is easily punishable. After the first couple of hits. I had to learn to fake out and play mind games with my opponent in order for me to comeback. This game is easy to just sit there and draw and it’s not one of my favorites. But it’s still possible to win
here's a tip my sister figured out: you can groundpound right before you touch the ground after jumping, that way it jukes your opponent giving them even less time to react 👍🏽
The game isn't in a vacuum. THIS IS A DUEL MINIGAME. Standing still will NOT be getting you the coins you want to steal/save from your opponent, and the timing for the ground pound isn't a constant.
That's why you jump, you wait to see if they jump before you GP. If they also jump, then you don't GP but instead chamber a jump as soon as you land. If they DON'T jump, then you wait till there's like, 5 frames until you land, the GP for an instant GP. It's only stupid if you can't see the mind games that can be played with this game.
Whenever I encounter this mini game in multiplayer, the players take turns making cartoonish quips and if the other player likes it, then they don't jump. If they don't like it, they jump. The mini game never gets finished, so there's no stakes.
Yeah if you play it normally it's good fun. But after playing it I realized you could get one point, then never attack and reaction jump theirs, leading to a pretty solved minigame. Great for casuals, horrible for sweats

I think it would be improved if there was punishment for a tie, as that would motivate one of the players to attack, and then becomes almost more like chicken

You dont have to ground pount at the peak of the jump but you can also do it at the descent which punishes players who jump too early so there is infact depth to this game

I dunno if the footage showed ressembles the way you guys play this game, but it's the wrong way to play it. You can short hop for fakeouts, not ground pound at all for mind games, ground pound midair for an occasional save from getting smacked, etc.

I don’t think they test these minigames. It sucks because jamboree is overall one of the better Mario parties but it’s minigames are lacking in quality compared to the past couple game in my opinion.

A LOT of Jamboree's minigames are built with multiplayer in mind, and mind games as the strat, so this is just one of the best ones imo.

I noticed when hitting a CPU you can instantly after the invincibility frames doing it again because the CPU doesn’t have time to react

Technically you can jump over your own attack after the opponent jumps over, but it would be extremely precise
