  • Visordown takes the bonkers Husqvarna 701 Supermoto out for a quick blast through the rolling British countryside.
The Husqvarna 701 gets much of its DNA from the KTM 690 SMC R, but with a few tweaks to the engine map, suspension and bodywork.
With 74 hp and weighing in at a mere 145 kg, the 701 Supermoto is an out and out hooligan weapon!

Well, that's a so so review. I've put 6,000 miles on my 2017 701 SM.
First the fuel range is way better than what was said. It's about 120 miles until the tank is dry, if you're on the motorway doing 80mph.
I've had fast liter bikes and slow singles and honestly this is my favorite bike I've ever ridden.
How fast do you actually need to go? This does 0-60 mph 3.8 sec and the quarter mile at 12.5. It's quick to 100mph and tapers off on power until somewhere above 115mph. That's as fast as I need to go outside of a racetrack. I can keep up with the sportbikes and supercars in the canyons as the speed of the road is mostly under 100mph. The huge benefit is, it does all this while weighing 340lbs with fuel. Every turn you go into the bike feels incredibly light. You can use that light weight all the time. Every corner when you're on the brakes that lightness is amazing as are the braking distances. By contrast with a liter bike we're talking 450lbs wet and for what? How often do you need to power wheelie at 100mph or go in excess of 150mph? Pretty rarely, yet you're lugging around all the chassis and engine weight all the time to support those rare goals? Seems silly.
Yes, the stock seat is tough for touring. Get the Seat Concepts comfort seat and you'll be fine to do 8 hour days on it. Get the Prerun rack and lash a pretty massive bag on there and you can tour your heart out. The valve service is every 6200 miles. I've had no issues except needing to add a little oil once in a great while. Big singles are a bit thirsty that way.
The bike does it all. It's like having a really fast actual supermoto bike with road bike maintenance. I'm not jealous in the least of a Hypermotard SP. That thing is incredibly heavy. No thank you. For me this is the ideal bike.

exnihilo415 totally agree with you man.
And stop comparing the 701 supermoto with Hypermotards, they’re completely different experiences. Lightweight FTW!

Did you tried to put some enduro tire on it? They say that pirelli str do great job and the bike can easy handle mx terrain.

@@TARZANMotoVlogs If you really want to see what a Husky 701 SM can do look up "Codie Vahsholtz | Full Run Onboard + Interview | 2017 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb" on youTube. If you can go up Pike's Peak faster than this on any bike, I want to party with you, rockstar! :) It's all you need for canyon blasting. It ain't slow. Plus you can get an extra set of 17" rims with some mounted with some Pirelli Scorpions on there and blast moderate gravel roads all day long with ease. The thing is versatile and a joy to use.

Why wouldn’t you use this for commuting!? I had the KTM 690 SMCR and it was the perfect commuting machine - high up, narrow, agile, loud as a mofo and stood out on the road like a sore thumb!

I know what you mean by that bodypositioning, its kinda weird going from a sportsbike to a supermoto.
Once you get used to it tho you will notice how easy and effortless it is to ride it fast around twisties, without actually trying to ride fast.

I love my 701 sm. Ive owned oodles of sportbikes and this is bar far the funnest bike I have ever owned. Everything is an opportunity with this beast and the 600s cannot get away from me in corners. In the straight of ways of course but in the twisties not a chance.

@Dan Gleeballs Had an issue with the throttle body at about 6K, replaced under warranty. So far no other issues. Tires seem to go fast but I'm guessing it's my riding.

I had a Yamaha wr250r (excellent bike!) and the rear tire used to wear out kinda fast with the street riding i used to do on it. Make sure to take advantage of any sales of rear tires!
I wouldn't mind trying out the 701, but no dealerships are near me (New York, U.S.) and i have read that there are issues with the Husqvarna (and the KTM) regarding reliability and being expensive to own and maintain.
      I'll keep looking / researching....

More my cup of tea that the Svartpilen, larger tank as well. Still not sure what differentiates it (other than styling) from the KTM 690 SMC R, but they seem to be @$1k cheaper here in Oz.

It's got a 13 litre fuel tank, so not so small. If you thrash any engine it will use a lot of fuel.

It is the first review that i have seen and i am agree with the reviewer. You have not notice some issues with the gear box and some other issues but from an owner congratulations. 10 minutes video is not enought to review this rare tipe of motorbike!!!
