Paused your video about a third of the way through and bought a Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite. Enjoyed the rest of the video.

Ordered one. Sale price was $59 usd. I will post impressions when I get it going. First movie will be Godzilla Minus One for the nuclear breath and then a couple episodes fromnthe first season of Demon Slayer anime. (Which is famous for its use of color) UPDATE- Demon Slayer demo is on my channel. Very impressive!

I love my T1 and will be sticking with it as the T2/T3 can’t be used with mounting beneath the TV (at least not as easily). It’s all linked to my Home Assistant/Hubitat/Homekit environment and the colour accuracy is plenty good enough for me. Plus the T3 doesn’t seem to have 75 inch support yet.
Tip: Use the TH-cam calibration video which has the 4 orange squares in the corner to save sticking the physical ones on your screen during setup.

    •  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@flink6150 yep. The software fully supports it, part of the setup asks you for the orientation. There are a number of TH-cam channels showing some nice ways to totally hide it on your TV stand as well (personally I’ve just stuck it to the bottom of the TV as it is floating on an arm off the wall so no other option).

Watched the video yesterday, bought it and installed it today. Works great. Be sure to pick the "Part" option to get the colors to match the action on the screen. This is a great option for us as we feed our TV with an ethernet cable. The camera sits at a 90 degree angle to the screen and I thought it a bit too obvious, but you quickly don't notice it when you're involved with a show. (I'll add that my wife chuckled at the cockroach/3M joke).

I made my own about a year ago. It was a nightmare getting hold of a Raspberry Pi 4 at the time, but I genuinely wouldn't live without it now.
I have more LEDs per meter. Them ones look like 30ppm, I went for 60ppm myself.
I use an esp32 connected to the strip with WLED installed, and that interfaces with the Raspberry Pi with HyperHDR installed on it.
I then use an HDMI capture box and a spitter to take the signal going into the TV.
Yes, I know it's rather technical compared to the Govee solution, and I understand some people just wouldn't be arsed with it. For me, I just love the rewarding feeling I get from knowing I did it myself.

I have a similar backlight and I recommend adding an additional cheap white backlight strip to the tv. I find that when the backlight turns off during a dark scene it is distracting. The effects are certainly more subtle with the extra light but it makes everyday usage so much better and you can always turn off the extra light strip when you want the full immersion.

Why compare this T3 lite vs the T1 and not the T2?, could be because the T2 is pricier (67€ vs 99€), have double leds and 2 lens in 1 camera to cover better the tv, althought it does not have the automatic turn off functionality, for me this product, remember it has Lite in it's name, seems as the entry level and the t2 and I suppose next iterations for more advance users as in Govees light strips, they have the BT only 30 leds/m, the wifi and BT 30 leds/m, the wifi 60 leds/m with protection, all this for interior, I think this is the same for the tv lights, they make two categories

Another pretty big CON of the Camera vs HDMI sync is aspect ratio. If you watch nothing but 16:9 on your 16:9 screen it's all good. But if you watch some movies that have a much wider aspect ratio, you end up with black bars on your screen and the camera doesn't know how to handle that because it sees black on the top and bottom. HDMI sync analyzes the video signal before it's ever output to a screen so you won't have that issue.

My next tellybox is going to be the ginormous TCL 98" and I'll try the Govee solution as using camera detection will also control the lights when using the apps.

Great review, thank you. The colour delay really bothers me...and who really watches TV directly these days? Viewing is almost always done via fire sticks, consoles, apps or external boxes like Virgin or Sky. However, if you've got Sky Glass, a camera-mounted system like this one could be a great alternative to sync boxes. Personally, after researching similar products, I find FancyLEDs to be the most reactive, and that's the level of accuracy I'm looking for. They also offer products that can sync via an app to enhance the ambiance in the room. I'd love to hear your opinion on this brand, in comparison to Govee

Whoa! Hang on a minute... So much to discuss about this video, more so if anyone here is a new viewer of Paul's productions. Maybe it's just me, but did anyone detect a difference in this production? A more aloof manner in the way things are presented, and the subtle words and storytelling done in the way that a potential politician might use? Yes! I think Paul's working on becoming an independent political candidate, and we are seeing this subtle change happening in front of us. Now, the story of Paul giving his father-in-law a 3 Grand TV... now, technically that is true, but a newcomer to this channel would be unaware that this TV was given to the father-in-law as a payment for forcing his daughter to marry Paul! Now, politicians do this thing all the time, and this subtle hidden backstory not being presented just confirmed that to me! Not only that, Paul upset the Twitteratte with his disgusting habit of putting the toilet roll on the hanger the wrong way around!! I mean, some things you can overlook, but never such a disgusting thing as this! Now, in thinking about it, it's possible that his bought and paid-for wife may be doing this as a way of sending a message to the outside world to save her!!!! Heck, this story is getting wild... potential politician pays for a child bride who wants to be rescued by subtle coded messages! Heck! Why waste this story here!! About 7 years ago i got a dreamscreen (and then the 4k version later) which is a sync box thru hdmi. Unfortunately due to lack of demand and some other issues, the creater decided to ditch dreamscreen. (Apparently they sold their design to phillips which is now the over priced but not as good hue sync box) it still cost around 300 something and i got 4 sidekicks with that (side kicks were finicky tho)
So dreamscreen is no more. Its an amazing product that is still going strong. However because my receiver is not 4k i had to add a 4k splitter into the mix and run 2 seperate 4k lines (one to tv, other to sync box) and it was a tedious setup process. I do have other govee lights that i love as well (floor lamp, 2 glides, and some 64 footers) i also have a bunch of hue bulbs. My house is pretty chaotic haha

I have the first version, and I'm looking to replace it. When I got it, I had a 60-inch TV, but now I have a 70-inch, so the camera just doesn't work as well. Because the version I got was designed for the smaller screen, when it was put on the larger screen it's not picking up all the edges. It works, but not as well as it did on the smaller screen.
I like Govee and trust their products, and I wish they offered an HDMI box because I'd like to move to that technology to get rid of the camera setup. Also, it looks like the two camera models they have are 55-65 and 75-85, which puts my 70-inch TV right in the middle of not being well suited to either of them.
When my wife saw the 70-inch I brought home about a year ago, she said it was too big, but now that she's gotten used to the size she wants a bigger one. Women. Looks like 75-inch TVs are around $1K and 85-inch TVs are around $2K, so maybe it's time to upgrade that and then get the Govee camera for the larger size TV.

Having watched this video and being impressed I bit the bullet and bought one, after 5 days of attempting to configure it with the help of Govee I have had to reluctantly give up. The colour accuracy particularly at the bottom of my screen was way out, almost displaying random colours. Govee told me they had done a firmware update yesterday but this did not help I am now seeking a refund. In the mean time I ordered the Philips Sync box and yes it is ridiculously expensive but it blows the Govee out of the water, simply no comparison, I guess the Govee might work for some depending on your TV size etc but it will be a gamble so be warned.

Ok, I built one of these HDMI based devices out of Raspberry PI and some good LEDs, and it's very accurate and colors are dead on. If there is any lag, it's very, very low (this did take months of tweaking). The problem comes up now with video games, HDMI 2.1 and VRR (variable refresh rate). A HDMI box for this would not work well with VRR. So pretty much in my setup now, I have no ambilight on my newest game consoles. I have tried some workarounds but, none really work that does not cause issues.
I am worried about lag, when playing playing video games,

    • @TheCoolDave
      @TheCoolDave 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@hazebanana First of all, No 3rd party offers a camera setup as far as I know.
Ok, the PI version. It uses Hyperion software and with a 4K 60hz capture device, I was able to get it working fine, in the Hyperion software it's actually running at 720P (This is not major as the lights will be in the same place). This WILL require a HDMI out for this. You can use a AVR with 2 HDMI outs (like I was using), or a HDMI splitter on the final leg before the TV. I built this setup, and it took a few months tweaking it on and off to get it running perfect.
This is a messy case, you need the LEDs, wires (power wires at the start of the LED and in the middle), a good power supply and a PI . This does work good, with tweaking but, NEEDS a HDMI source.
I did a lot of research on this Govee TV BackLight 3 with the fisheye camera (seems more accurate than they past models), and after reading and seeing how it works in gaming from reviews, I decided to go with it. It's a cleaner install, works with all sources, and is very low on the lag issues. It's fairly easy to setup and get working accurate. I have NOT installed it yet (remodeling the room so the system is down as of now).
Once setup if I find lag bad (I am very sensitive to lag), I will look for a replacement. Hate spending $90 just to need to be replaced. I am very verbal on issues, so Govee will know if it's that bad, across Twitter (X) and Facebook. Trust me, they will know.
