Thank you for this video! I just purchased an anthurium chonk a couple days ago and this has changed my game plan as to how I'm going to root it! Congrats on your cute little baby leaf😊

Yes, That really helped me and i think i am more confident now in deciding wether there is root rot or not. Because depending on the plant and the color of the roots i am a bit insecure about that 😊 also: the cutest little Anthurium leaf…😍thanks and have a nice week :))

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Heya, glad it helped! 😊 Yes I know in regards to roots some roots can just look dark but aren't rotting but the squeeze test helps, roots shouldn't ooze water. You are welcome, enjoy your week. 🌱

Such a cute baby leaf! Definitely makes me want to try growing from a chonk!
Would love to see updates on all the El Choco props you did videos on!

Yes, would also like to try it. Watching it grow from the very beginning must be fun 🤗

Heya, I know I'm soo in love with the leaf! Definitely give it a try if you can. On the El Choco props, there is a bit of an update in my latest video but will note to do a separate video as I still have the mother plant.

It is fun and at some stages surprising at how quickly it can grow!

Going to try perlite . Thanks for sharing

  • @AquaStevae

You should ALWAYS rinse your perlite BEFORE using it, as the dust can gum up your plants roots.

Do you think it's important to wet the perlite first or does it not matter?

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I wet the perlite only after planting / positioning the plant / chonk or cutting. I do this only because once the perlite is wet it all sticks together and to your hands etc and I find it harder to reposition it. I water after to almost set the plant in place. But you can do it before or after.

This was amazing to watch! I purchased an Anthurium Regale chonk that should be here in a few days. I'm pretty new at this and have been researching the best way to root it. I really like your method and was wondering if I should do it this way and make a DIY humidity box to put it in? Also, at what stage do you remove it from the perlite and pot it? What medium do you use? Thanks! 😊

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Heya Allison, I'm glad you really enjoyed it! Thanks for touching base, sorry for the delay. How is your Regale chonk doing? What did you decide to do in the end?! Anthuriums I always go for perlite unless they already have roots then i'll do moss.

@ I made a Prop box and put it in perlite on 2/2/22. I removed it a couple days ago to check it and it has a little nub poking out. It's taking a while but I guess it's making progress. Lol over a week ago I added a grow light and a heat mat to keep everything stable. I've also added a few other things in there which are doing well! It's my first time doing this so I'm pretty excited and impatient! 😂 Thanks for getting back to me. 🌿

That couldn't have gone any smoother than that. When you cut all those roots my eye started twitching. What is your humidity at in your cabinet?

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Haha, yea it went really well. It's doing well too, soo looking forward to seeing the second leaf and hopefully in the future getting more lift from the same chonk! Humidity in the cabinet is 70 -99%. Most of the time it's high mid to high 90's.

Ughhh I’m watching this hoping to save my caramel marble. ItIt had 2 good sized leaves and a few inches of roots. I pulled it out of the moss to inspect the roots and had to cut most of them off. Should I cut the leaves off completely and treat it as a chonk???

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Heya, if the leaves are perfectly fine then leave them on as they will be key in getting your plant to recover as quickly as possible. I'd just put it in perlite with water to the level of a quarter of the pot so the roots are not sitting in water and let them adapt and grow towards the water though the perlite will provide moister around them but won't soak them. Have it in medium to bright light or whatever the leaves are happy in. Wishing you all the best but let me know how you get on!

I am trying to root a chonk in perlite but it has started to rot. How often do you add more water?

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Heya Katherine. Sorry to hear about the rot. Assuming you’ve cut that off and cleaned the chonk and let it dry. I only add more water when the perlite is nearly dry so there’s no water at the base of the container. I add about a quarter of the container but make sure the water stops a little under where the Chonk is. Hope that helps.
