    Nothing on this planet is forever. The Sahara was once green, so why not again?

    I'm not completely surprised.
    I've known that the Sahel - the region on the southern edge of the Sahara - has been greening for at least the last 20-30 years or so (which is great). Looks like the Sahara greening is an extension of that.
    The good thing is - the more vegetation that a region has, you can get "micro-climate" effects kicking in.
    The plant-covered land is cooler and the evaporation from plant-covered land can create clouds which then give rain, starting a "positive feedback loop", making the land even greener.
    Oh, and plant-covered land retains moisture well, stopping the land from drying out.

      @@IronHorsefan1869 There will always be some desert there, U tube creators tend to get over exited on this topic. It is the same with the African green wall project. The purpose of that venture is not to turn the entire dessert green. This is an inaccuracy creators like to put in silly titles. The reason is to restore degraded land on the deserts edge and provide a buffer zone against spreading desertification.

    Another bonus, the greening will help cool a hot Earth hopefully resulting in less polar cap ice melt.

      Sadly, it is only possible if there is wind brings moisture from the sea.
      In australia, the wind pattern circulate within the continent.
      Changing that pattern is harder than intensifying existing pattern like africa.

    • @philipjameson163
      @philipjameson163 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What the other guy said is right it wouldn't be impossible but Australia does fall into areas of very little moisture and it's lack of mountains makes rain unlikely anywhere in the outback

    • @raclark2730
      @raclark2730 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Australia is all ready relatively green for a arid continent, there is a fantastic amount of botanical life, even in the harsh interior. Certainly some water could be sent inland from the north east tropics for agriculture and forestry.
      Otherwise best to concentrate on restoring degraded areas. This should also the involve the promoting of indigenous fire practice. This encourages bio diversity and reduces the risk of mega fires.

    Not even close.
    The milankovitch cycle can turn Sahara desert into Sahara savanna. in thousands of years, by pointing the northen hemisphere to the sun when perihelion, hence increasing the heat at summer to sahara by 10%. That significant increase then widen west african moonsoon.
    In the video, planting tree only help when the annual rainfall is enough at Sahel region, stop or slow sahara expansion.
    With current pace of climate change in just hundreds of year, it is simply too fast to adapt. Some places get more rain, but too hot and too many extreme weather everywhere.
    The effort of protection is nothing compare to the destruction of human.
