I just finished chapter 1 in 6 hours. I will never understand why people rush these games. They are surreal and beautiful I was 20 minutes just looking at the landscape on the second meditation circle.

I'll sum up all the lore from The Journey To The West, for Western viewers, trust me, I'm an Asian.
This game happens after the events in the novel Journey To The West - a Chinese novel written in the 16th Century. In the novel, Wukong was a monkey born from a magical stone. At the beginning of the Universe, Nuwa ( the Goddess of Creation ) used her power to create all lives in the Universe, the excess energy from that event takes the form of 5 stones ( Wukong was born from 1 of those 5 stones ). Think of it like the Infinity Stones - enormous cosmic power. These 5 stones are then scattered among the Realms, one of them lands on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruits. After thousands of years absorbing energy of the Heaven and the Earth, the stone cracked, giving birth to a magical monkey - Sun Wukong.
He was incredibly strong and smart from birth, and was named the Monkey King by all the monkeys in the Mountain. But, he still could not defeat aging and death. So he roams the land, seeking a master to learn the secret of immortality. After a long time practicing Taoism magics, and had achieved immortality, he returns to his mountain and named himself The Great Sage equals to Heaven. His playful and cocky nature doesn't sit well with the Celestial Court ( led by the Jade Emperor ) , so between them, there was a beef. Fearing that Wukong would cause destruction, the Jade Emperor offered him a job in Heaven. During this time, he wanders around 33 levels of the Heavenly Palace, achieved 7 more layers of immortality ( by eating A WHOLE ASS GARDEN of immortality peaches, drinking Wine of Immortality, eating gourds of Immortality...... ). He even goes as far as going to Hell, bullying the God of Death, and erases his name out of the Book of Death, granting him another layer of immortality. Wukong is technically a force of the Universe, and now he can't die due to 7 layers of immortality. These acts made the Jade Emperor furious.
Then, the Jade Emperor ordered the Celestial Court to sent 100.000 heavenly soldiers ( including Erlang Shen and the Four Heavenly Kings in the video above ) upon him, Sun Wukong defeated them all. He destroys the whole Heavenly Palace and threaten the life of the Jade Emperor. In a panic, the Jade Emperor had to ask the All Mighty Buddha to intervene. Buddha defeated Wukong, and trapped him under a mountain for 500 years to teach him a lesson. After leaving, Buddha said that in order to repent for his sins, Wukong must embark on a Journey.
His mission was to escort a monk named Tang Sanzang from the East ( China ) to the West Heaven ( India ) to acquire the Scriptures of Buddha. Guanyin ( the right hand of Buddha ) gave Tang Sanzang the Golden Headband to keep Wukong in check ( because Tang Sanzang was only a mere weakling mortal ). By chanting the right words, the Headband will tighten around Wukong's forehead, giving him excruciating headache ( that's what happened in the video - maybe someone was reading the chant when Wukong turns into a bird - could be Buddha or Guanyin, i don't know ). After 17 YEARS of walking ON FOOT, defeating hundreds of monsters, they reached the West Heaven and acquired the Scriptures of Buddha. The party, including Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, Pigsy and Sandy - were all given Buddhahood for their achievements. Sun Wukong was named The Victorious Fighting Buddha. All the events in this game happen after that.
I hope this would give Western audience more insights, and hopefully, more love for the beautiful story of Journey To The West. I highly suggest you all watch the film adaptations ( the most well-loved in Asia was the 1986 adaptation, the CGI is bad, but the story is beautiful. It is a long and profound story of the Journey, teaching us about love, compassion, and humanity, guiding us all on the Journey to achieve godhood ).

@@areebsaad116 we play as a part of Wukong's "reincarnation" so to speak, as he died, 5 out of his 6 senses were scattered as relics (which we'll be collecting in game) but the 6th one (his mind) basically turned into the monkey we play as. and at the end of the story, we basically become Wukong, not the exact same Wukong as the original story (since that one had died) but still Wukong nonetheless

This game reflects the core value of 'Journey to the West' - You can only obtain the true script after you have overcomed the all the challenges alone the journey. Therefore, in the game, if you speed run it by skipping some stories/challenges, you won't be able to get to the real ending.

Observations about the game, which is a work of art! 1 - The scenarios really had some repetitive aspects, but at the same time, there are elements with many details of the paths, mountains, slopes. The details of the paths within the map are superior and varied with aspects of reality in terms of a mountain, vegetation, etc. The aspects are superior to other great games. 2 - The soundtrack is excellent. As a language and music teacher, I was really interested in the arrangements, and the characteristics of Chinese culture were very well presented and still presented in an intelligent way for the common people, in addition to still pleasing great music connoisseurs. 3 - Without a doubt, I would say that it is the game of the year! The English and Chinese dubbing is excellent! The way they told the story is very intelligent, beating many big games, there was a lot of intelligent philosophy, a lot of demonstration of culture/philosophy/religion... Something that seems to be interconnected, unlike the West that separates more philosophy and religion... Great gameplay, I disagree with the difficulties because it is a different proposal from Soulslike even though the game has aspects of Soulslike, the game makes you want to play the New Game + Just like Elden Ring which is something very well done, it makes sense to play New Game Plus in this game, much more than others. 4 - The animations are very intelligent, with countless details, something that other games with animations don't know how to do, the design work of the clothes and accessories are well done, connecting Chinese culture and mythology. 5 - The game works the dopamine aspect of neuroscience in the players in a very well done way, you get curious when you meet each boss, and each chapter that ends, and it always delivers very well. 6 - The ending ends excellently, notice that the game really grows in every way, the map grows, the skills, the costumes, the character building and secrets, the interest of playing about Sun Wukong and Chinese mythology, the bosses grow, and in the end where we have the ending and secret boss along with the normal final battle, it shows the big cherry on the cake, and it still ends with two EXCELLENT soundtracks. Black Myth Wukong WOULD DESERVE THE GAME OF THE YEAR FOR SURE! So far it is my number 1, and number 2 Elden Ring DLC... Number 3 I don't know yet. I hope all players continue to study about art, video games and cinema because they are all interconnected! See ya buddy!

Yes WuKong is a fictional character in journey to the west. I used to watch the dub version of the drama is nice back in good old days 80s. Since this game quite popular well as usual surely they will be part 2 whatever. This current Wu Kong is like telling his story how he been trapped in the stone etc . Suspect if there is ever part 2 coming out these game developer will inject the rest of the team , who are the Master monk which can he summon control Wu Kong , than Zhu Bajie , Sha Wujing and that White Dragon Horse and journey continue.....

2) Complete the Treasure Hunter Side Quest in Chapter 3 (The one with the Melon)
You dont need the 5 Skandha or the Loong Quest completed
4. Return to the Little Western Heaven Pagoda, where Maitreya Buddha will open a new map for you.

This may come off as an unpopular opinion, but the constant back and forth between chapter locations does make it very confusing(in situations besides going to buy medicines and items; mostly when we're trying to find the vanguard and other bosses). I mean the need for it, not Shirrako's gameplay. But I was wondering though how we get to know that it's necessary to go back to Chapter 2 after finishing it - to defeat the Beetle? That looked sudden
