    I am from there. The biggest problem is island fever. Most people do not take this into account but I would say 90 percent of the time people leave anywhere, even for places like Puerto Rico and Hawaii, is because of island fever (you begin to feel closed in). If you are not used to living in a small place for a long time you will eventually get sick of it and move to a larger land mass.

      I visited St. Kitts for 3 weeks and I agree, it definitely feels like you’re on a small island. It was great as a holiday but I’m not sure whether I could live there permanently.

    • @biashacker
      @biashacker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mariancounsellor You are right. If most people instead of moving to islands, moved out to the country where they are from, started a garden, and built a small modern, modest home, they would have a much better life. I have seen too many people move from Canada or Europe to the Caribbean or perhaps even places like Belize and Costa Rica only to move back 5 years later.

      @@biashacker Yeah, one of the biggest reasons is also tax breaks, lack of a need for visa travel and sun, however what people don't realize is you can get all of these things in The UK, Netherlands, Switzerland, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Ireland, Guatemala, New Zealand, Panama and Costa Rica. It mostly comes down to a lack of effective research.

    • @pnachtwey
      @pnachtwey 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Anonymoose66G The tax breaks are better on St Kitts and Nevis. There are 3 types of tax systems. There is the oppressive US tax by citizenship. There is tax by residence which is what most countries have. In these countries you pay taxes if you stay there more than 6 months. St Kitts, Panama and Costa Rica have territorial taxes which means you only pay taxes on income in the country. St Kitts goes a little further and doesn't have a personal income tax or capital gains tax.
      My point is that the EU countries will still want to tax you although some will have a low flat tax but most have high tax rates like the US.

    I just got back from St Kitts and Nevis. I was there for a week and I walked all around Basseterre and went on a few of the tours. I visited many of the places in the video. My big con was the humidity. I am not use to the humidity so I would need to take a shower 2 or 3 times a day. With all the walking I lost 10-12 lbs. I stayed just west of the bus and ferry terminals on Bay Road. I could see them out the window. The buses are really mini vans that wait for enough people to fill the mini van. There didn't seem to be fixed routes. I walked into town each day to visit the local places for eating. After a while the locals realized i wasn't a normal tourist and started asking me questions. They were friendly and I learned a lot from them. There aren't big stores. I did visit pharmacies to see if they had the medicines I need. None had everything but Amazon delivers there and I have a Amazon pharmacy account. The clothing stores didn't have anything in my size but again Amazon delivers. A cell phone with Whatsapp is a must.
    The roads are not marked well. One can't get lost but it is often hard to know what street you are on. There is a post office of sorts with LOTS of mail boxes. I think everyone must have a mail box. I didn't see anything that looked like a mail man.
    The "beach" was right across the Bay Road from where I was staying. I went wading in the water. Kids would swim there daily. The "sand" is coarse and black there. Probably because of the volcanic nature of the island. It wasn't like the white sand beaches I am used to.
    The roads are narrow and people park their cars in the road. This effectively make the road a one lane road so car must "negotiate" around the parked cars. The island isn't that big. If one has a good bike they could ride around the island in a few hours but I wouldn't risk it. Besides, I would be dripping from sweat due to the temperature and humidity.
    I am a citizen by investment but I need to think hard about whether I would really want to live there. Part time would be OK but not full time.

    Most points I agree with, except cost of living being 'moderate'. Cost of living is high compared to other Caribbean territories. The country's economy is built on tourism and prices for goods, services and products are catered towards tourists. The import duty is extremely high and restrictive. An item may cost US $100 but you have to pay an additional US $200.00 just to bring it/import into the country. A price to rent a 1 bedroom apartment in St.Kitts equates to the price to rent a 3-4 bedroom in other Caribbean territories.

      Thank you for your comment. Yes, the cost of living is high in comparison to some Caribbean countries. On a worldwide scale, it is considered medium. Yes, our import duty is high, and rent can be high depending on one's desire. We appreciate your comment.

      hey!! are you afraid of dying, or afraid of what comes after death? it may help to know why we even die in the first place. the Bible says in Romans 6:23 "the wages of sin is death." The reason WHY we even have to die in the first place is because of sin! And the worst part is, after we die on this earth, we have to stand before God and give an account for even word we ever spoke, every deed done, and every thought we've had, whether good or bad. God will judge everyone according to His law, the Ten Commandments. His law requires not to lie, steal, use His name in vain (ex: saying oh my (insert God's name), or commit adultery (and Jesus says that even looking at someone with lust is adultery in Matthew 5:27-28 (which applies if your a girl too lol) "whoever looks at a woman to lust for her commits adultery with her in his heart")
      These are only some of God's ten commandments, and if you've broken them, God sees you as a lying, blaspheming, adulterous, thief. Obviously, if you were to die tonight and stand before God, you'd be guilty. The wage for your sin would be eternal death in Hell, with no escape or end. However.... GOD IS SO GOOD!!!! He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for YOU! Jesus never sinned, so He never had to die, but He died so He could pay the wage of your sins for you! That is why the rest of romans 6:23 says, "the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord." And God promises that if you repent of your sins and turn to Jesus Christ in faith, He will grant you everlasting life. It is not your works that save you, but the work of Christ on the cross. He died, and rose from the dead, proving that through Him, though we may die on this earth, we will rise afterward to Heaven!
      think of it.. who has ever loved you like Christ? Has any friend, family member, or boyfriend/girlfriend ever loved you so much to die for you? And Jesus didn't HAVE to die for you, but He chose to out of love, even though you have sinned so many times against Him. This is exactly why Romans 5:8 says, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
      You can die at anytime (no one knows when!) and end up face to face with God, Who will judge you based on His law. Without Christ, you will be guilty and damned for all of eternity in Hell. Why look for love anywhere else when God has so greatly loved you by dying to save you? please think about this, its not religion, but faith in Jesus Christ

      Hi Mark, Great questions. We do have some rivers, most are not actively running. We primarily use groundwater for consumption. Our electricity is generated from imported fossil fuels. We are in the process of generating more solar energy for electricity.

      What the Caribbean island have not realized is that God gave them sun, but instead of using it they prefer to use electricity from imported fossil fuels
      One of these days, the White man or Chinese will start selling the sun in the Caribbean islands and everyone will rush to buy
      Caribbean Government need to start thinking outside the box. For every new house that is built, make it compulsory that a water meter MUST be installed to monitor water waste
      Also give incentives for all those who installed a solar water tan to heat the water up. Instead of having heat the water, the sun heats the water in the tank and this is FREE and available 24/7. This incentive should also be given to existing home owners as well. This will cut down on the amount of electricity that is used to heat water for shower, especially in the cold months (as the Caribbean people like to call them.
      My cousin have a large solar water tan on the flat part of her roof. The water is so hot from the sun, this in part have reduced her electricity bill down to only for the light/ironing/washing machine etc
      Using fossil fuels take money away from the country that it can ill afford and remember that the EC$ have to be converted into US$ - not cheap
