I've had this. One factor that has affected me is if my body is changing and I don't feel great about myself (linked to hormones most recently!) then I lose motivation. I've dealt with this by sewing bags rather than clothes and knitting - still creative but in different ways.
I lost my sewjo completely after I lost my dear mom and my dad one month before her. I just couldn't do anything. But, thanks to you and your bubbly spirit, Rachel and Tamlyn....I'm starting to get it back. I made a small thing today, planning on a shirt tomorrow. Thank you for this, very helpful. You're the best.❤
So sorry to hear that. Sending you a big hug xx
When you think about the massive de-stash you have just done, it makes sense that it probably sapped a lot of your energy! You probably want to be done with the process, but are still tying up loose ends. Hence, you aren’t getting to do the fun, creative stuff that you love so much. There might also be some feelings of loss, parting with fabrics that once sparked joy and stirred creativity. Give yourself a pat on the back for getting that done!
I would like to recommend something you might not have considered. Perhaps sending your sewing machine out for service might be in order. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. By the time you get your machine back, not only will you appreciate how much better it works, you will be inspired to jump back in. I am currently away from home for a month and can’t wait to get back and resume sewing.
Great idea. I definitely need to look at servicing x
I think the change of season and the sun going down so early makes a lot of us feel down.
Can perfectly understand losing your sewing-Jo. My question, to myself, is “ how many clothes do I need now I’m retired?”. I don’t want to live in jeans and jersey tops, but they are practical, especially at this time of year. Don’t have grandchildren and my daughter lives over 200 miles away, and works in a uniform. I have made bags, but how many bags do I need, even to give away. My solution - just trying to put this into practice -is slow sewing. I have a couple of 1940s patterns that are too small, so working on how to increase size but keep the vibe. I also have some lovely coat weight wool, bought in 2019, and want to make a coat, slowly and carefully. Also looking at a bra making course. I help run a monthly sewing group so get that chance to chat and recently found another group run by a lady who was a tailor, so can help with the skills I need. Will watch your progress with interest, but never fear, it will come back - you are a sewist!
Gosh, 2 yrs of lost sewjo here. Just getting it back. I live in a sewing desert (and an actual desert). My problems began when I got old (70) and my style and figure changed at same time. Had to work through all of that. Had a good clean-out. Got some new patterns. It will come back. Have faith.
I like the idea of swapping out summer fabric for winter, just like we do our clothing. Great idea, I know it would help me.
Sometimes i have so many things i want to sew, i just get overwhelmed and don't sew anything. Other times i sew so much that things like housework and spending more time with family, especially my also retired husband, get put on the back burner. This week I've decided to clean my house, starting with the bedrooms. I have so many things ready for donation after just one room! Ive also tried to organize fabric that is also stored in the first bedroom I've tackled. I feel that if I am able to get my home organized this week i can start sewing for the upcycle challenge next week. And I'm being more spontaneous when my husband suggests a day out! I saw that were able to attend Frocktales, your husband just gets you! I'm sure you will get your sewjo back. I'm betting just talking about it, and seeing your sewing buddies will help. My daughters have invited me to see a quilting show in Toronto at the Royal Ontario Museum in a few weeks and i found out it's an 8 minute walk to a very large fabric store. And i just happen to have gift certificates to use. Not as exciting as Knit and Stitch show or a Frocktales, but still a sewing related day out. Now to join Craftsy!
Sounds like a plan!
Change of seasons, less light, busy lives, lots on the mind etc all contribute… I think we shouldn’t be hard on ourselves- be kind, tnt projects, or something new or a very quick project helps! ❤ it will come lovely xx omg the secret still haunts me from the weekend 😂
🤣🤣
The end of summer always makes me melancholy. It's not even the rain, wind and cold that get to me, it's the loss of those lovely long, light evenings that I miss the most...
If I go through a phase when I don't feel particularly motivated to sew, I accept it, and focus on my other creative activity, which is innovative cooking. My sewjo always comes back pretty quickly of its own accord.
So true! I’m hating the darkness right now. Just want to sit on the sofa with my Crosstitch instead!
I also find all the vlogs on sewing very inspirational.
When I struggle with my sewjo I will read a book trilogy, decorate a room or try a new craft, only to realise the first is boring the second is way to expensive and I'm rubbish at any other craft but sewing and can't wait to get back to my sewing machine 😊
Love this!
I find a deadline helps me find my sewjo super quick 😂 that's one of the reasons I love an insta challenge. 🥰🤩
I hope you have wonderful time at frocktails with your friends. I would love to see the look on their faces. Sometimes you just lose interest in things for no particular reason. Life is happening. I'm confident that you will find inspiration soon. Look forward to a round up of your night out. I'm hoping there will be some pics of you all enjoying yourself.
Perhaps when you find yours look if mine is there too 😂
Great tip. I like you, need to sew as it greatly helps ease my mind. I recently have not been sewing due to life events taking up too much space in my mind. I really wanted to, but just couldn't bring myself to do this. Instead I watched heaps of sewing vlogs, went through all my stash and looked at what the latest fashion was online to bring inspiration. To help me get back into sewing I often will stitch a little charity quilt. I have a number already cut out and bagged up, so it is something I can stitch without much thinking. Plus the end result brings me so much joy (charity quilts for babies in hospital), that I usually end up making a few before moving on to making garments. Good luck with finding your sew-jo. But also remember it is okay to have a little break from things you love every now and then.
Thank you! What a lovely thing you do 😍
What a great thought provoking video Ruan. I love researching and do it for everything. Personally I think there is just so much ‘stuff ‘ around sewing these days that it can be overkill. When I was sewing as a young mum (many many moons ago😂) there was no social media, no internet for fabric and pattern shopping. Just a trip to the nearest town to buy something. It was much simpler then I feel. We are all too pressurised by what is around in the community. It’s good to have the community .......sometimes. How about a wardrobe de-clutter. Get rid of things that you don’t wear and that might inspire you to replace things with different styles etc. Most of all, don’t worry about it. Your sewing is superb and your Sew-Jo will return. I love watching your videos so have a bit of a chill time and then enjoy your great sewing again.
Thank you. I think you’re right. Social media is amazing but sometimes can be overwhelming can’t it x
I found the benefit of a palate cleanser last week (a pair of toddler shorts from Atelier Mimito, which helped with my offcuts). I'd also suggest reviewing your style (I like Colette's Wardrobe Architect), whether you have any "wardrobe gaps" or playing with your fabric scraps. I'm sure your sew-jo will be back and fully refreshed soon 😉
I think destashing is part of the sewing process and you are achieving lots. Going shopping is a good idea particularly if you try on cos often shop bought can be very ill fitting which may motivate you to sew. Plan a mini autumn capsule and find items within your wardrobe and then see gaps which should be exciting to make up in order to create an outfit that you have planned. One thing is for certain, sew Jo always comes back
Yes. Great plan x
All signed up, thanks ruanne
I haven’t lost my sew jo but I flit from one lovely pattern to another with no plan about when I’m going to wear the garments or even if they’ll go together, I really need to make an effort to sew a coordinated wardrobe, I’m going to take your advice and go to the shops to see what’s in for Autumn and take it from there, thanks Ruan ❤❤
That was me up until about a year ahead. All my recently made garments are in regular rotation in my wardrobe because I started being intentional with my sewing and styling. The time and effort is paying off!
@@anitacollingwood4224 thanks for the reply Anita, that gives me hope that I can do the same ❤️❤️
It was the BEST SURPRISE EVERRRRRRRRRR when you arrived in Glasgow. Honestly! Loved this video and really hope your Sew-Jo returns soon. Can't wait to see you on Sunday xxx
your Ginger Tie top has inspired me, I'd never heard of that pattern company before. Thank you x
I think it’s the rubbish summer we had & now we have such overcast, wet days going into the autumn, enough to make anyone fed up. I lost my sew-jo last year & took a while to get my confidence back but ow sewing again. ❤
I’m feeling like that too regards making clothes, I do think it’s the change of season for me definitely as I much prefer to make summer clothes !!
I’m hoping a trip to the knitting and stitching show Harrogate will help me ❤
Your research is spot on and several of them work for me. A quick and easy project that uses scraps acts as a palette cleanser for me; I am currently making knickers from my jersey scraps. Scraps were getting out of hand and I felt guilty about waste. Stupid, I know. Social sewing is great and I miss that. I must book some virtual sewcials, I have done that before. Courses are fantastic, too. I took a fitting course a couple of years ago and that was excellent. I still have a lot to learn, though. A tidy sewing space is important, I agree. I have cleared my cutting table today, put stuff away, then dusted and vacuumed. I have a way to go in there yet. Already destashed a lot of my art stuff I no longer use, but I still have too much stuff and not enough storage! I think 'resting' some of the stash and replacing it with fabric that has been put away can be refreshing.
It’s not daft to feel guilty about the waste lovely. I’m exactly the same! x
I think this time of year brings the pressure of starting to think about Christmas the weather is changing. Life is exhausting just be kind to yourself x
😘
Hope your sewjo has returned ❤❤
I love to spend some time just windowshopping all the stores near me. I find inspiration and sometime I even buy some pieces 😅. Since I started sewing, I find it pleasurable to just wonder some streets in Oporto and replicate those items (and they will actually fit me!!)😂
Love that!
This is so relatable Rhuan. I had a 3 week period (felt like months!) of not sewing… holiday ( yeay) quickly followed by ‘orrible’ germs and snot 🤢 the precious fabric plans evaporated before my watery eyes then the panic set in…oh no, the vlog tour date is looming. I cuffed the snot and grabbed some gorgeous french Terry and made the simplest T-shirt, then I cut out a skirt, lining, and before I knew it I was sewing through the blip. Even hand sewing lining and hems
- that’s Definitely not my thing but I’m back to a happy rhythm. I hope frocktails gave you a sewjo recharge 🥰😍🩷
So glad you got it back honey xx
Interesting vlog. I do think the transition from summer to autumn has been quite early this year and we didn’t get much of a summer did we? Low light levels, rainy days, windy weather all contribute to making us feel a bit melancholy. I also think we start looking back at this time of year to what we’ve achieved from our grand plans for the year and sometimes we can be disappointed and then pressure ourselves to get it all done in time for that thing that happens in December! I haven’t managed to make a single garment this year, even though I bought new patterns, lovely fabrics and had the time, it just didn’t happen and I feel a bit guilty. But I know I’ll get going with it again.
Don’t be hard on yourself. Sewjo comes and goes. You’ll find something you want to make and you’ll forget you ever lost it. ❤️ and hugs.
Thank you! I think you’re right. Hope your excitement for sewing comes back soon xx
Ruan, I am waiting with bated breath for your destash as there’s one fabric that I NEED! 😍 I wanted it but then it sold out and I missed my chance so keeping my fingers crossed! Hoping you get your sewjo back soon so you can make all the beautiful things! 😊
I see what I have in my wardrobe and see what I need. This motivates me to find patterns that meet those needs.
Good idea x
I think your Sewjo went missing with your destash plans! Plus the rubbish weather and hard to think what to make. I haven’t sewn anything since the beginning of September when I returned from Cornwall. I keep a day a week especially for sewing (as well as other times)and my Wednesday has just been full of other things recently. 😢 I’m going to start on 2 early Christmas projects tomorrow I hope as my 2 little grandchildren like to wear a Xmas inspired garment in December. I washed the fabric yesterday and just need to hunt out the patterns ready for tomorrow. I must get organised as otherwise I’ll be distracted and procrastinate. Doing small garments certainly helps me feel less overwhelmed I find. Red to do that now. Thank you for the inspiration Ruan and hope you had a lovely time at Scottish Frocktails. I’m going to London Frocktails on the 11th 😊
Do it! Make a lyra.
Watching this was my reward for cleaning my bathroom. I can't wait to hear about Frocktails!
Love this 🤣
I find sometimes taking a break and working on a different craft that I enjoy is helpful. Or sewing something I don’t usually sew, like a bag, wallet or housewares instead of a garment. Also, if I don’t feel excited to make anything for myself I sometimes use my sewing time to make gifts (get a start on Christmas or birthday presents?) or sew something for charity (mittens and hats for the upcoming cold season here in Canada, or period products for Days for Girls). That said, my sewjo is currently very energized by sewing for autumn/winter. I hope your sewjo returns soon!
Yes I’ve made something for someone else and it’s definitely helped! 😊
These are great tips! I've lost mine and haven't been able to find it. I've still got my standing tall quilt from the Quilt along to finish...... sewing for my mum took priority and was actually the reason I lost it as I had a deadline to hit rather then poodling along at my own speed. I'll try some of these though xx
Yes I’m the same! Deadlines put me off 🙈
I seem to be in a bit of a funk as well 🥹 tidied my sewing room this weekend as I can’t create in mess either so 🤞🏻 living in Shetland I am so far from any socials and haven’t found the courage to attend anything like frocktails myself. It’s weird because I feel like I know all my fave TH-camrs and they would like eh who are you? 😂 hoping everyone’s sewjo comes back soon xx
You should definitely give it a go if you can. A lot of them have little meet ups before the event so you can meet people over a coffee first 😊
If your right handed... Start brushing your teeth with your left hand and try living left for couple chores... Like ironing, cleaning etc... Gets your left side of your brain woken up.... The creative side.
What an awesome idea. 👍👍👍
WOW WHAT AN INTERESTING IDEA!
I haven't sewn in months 😢 I miss it but I've been losing weight and feeling weird about my body and sewing just makes you focus on your body
Yes I totally get that. I yo yo with my weight so understand this x
My sewjo for garments has gone for the moment so I’m making bags instead and loving it. I’ve made a couple of Oxbows and Buckthorns as Christmas gifts and I’m just about to cut out one of Adam’s caddies. I’m sure your sewjo will come back soon. I watched Emma’s video of you turning up in Glasgow, it was brilliant to see the ladies reaction, you are so loved by those ladies it was lovely to see xx
I am so lucky to have those girls in my life 🥰. And you’re right. I love making a bag!
Mines been missing too, my husband even noticed and said you’re not sewing much 😮I need to I have memory bear orders and Christmas fairs to get more stock ready.
I’ve tried little projects but then I get side tracked…
Hi Ruan. Hope your sew jo comes back, but in the meantime just take advantage of the downtime. I look forward to seeing your drawings (and your garments drawings are not terrible, I think they're actually quite good. I can see exactly what your're intending to make). I took advantage and joined the Craftsy so look forward to using that. I've already found a bra making class as I would love to be able to make my own, and I know from past experience its rather difficult, so it'll be interesting to see what I can learn. Might look at doing a bit of drawing as well.
Oh that’s great to hear. Hope you enjoy it 🥰
I always want to make so many things and there’s just not enough time to do it!! It can be overwhelming ❤. Hope you had fun in Scotland x
Totally agree!
We all seem to have moments like that whatever the reason. I think some times it’s just a way of our minds telling us we need a break from from an activity. I totally lost my sewjo at one point and actually went months without even looking at my machine, when I did come back to it I found it so much more satisfying and enjoyable. I also found I have a different mindset so I don’t feel the pressure to sew the latest thing anymore making it more relaxing for me too. You have given some great suggestions and I hope you find they help you and others.
Such a shame you can’t make it down the Plymouth Frocktails, I was hoping for another chat while we propped up the bar like we did at the Gathering🤣 Hope you had fun in Scotland 😊
Ha ha! Propping up the bar and working out how we can make the most of Avios points 🤪
Good one❤
Oh my goodness I can so relate to so many of these!!! Defo the social media overwhelm too 😂🙈
It was so fabulous seeing you over the weekend - you totally inspired me because of just how fabulous you looked! lol.
I’m sure you will get your sewjo back soon ❤❤❤
Aww thanks sweetie. Was so good to see your lovely face IRL again 🥰
It will be back, have no fear!😊
Great words of advice - thanks. My sewjos also gone walkabout. I’m trying a bit of crocheting with the time but hoping to get back to sewing very soon as I’m missing it!
You can do it!
hopefully you will by now have returned from your weekend with friends and feel more like it. I discovered your channel by accident recently and although I grew up with a seamstress of a mother I haven't made any clothes since my children grew up (more years ago than I care to remember)!but you have encouraged me to buy a couple of patterns and have a go.
Oh that is so amazing to hear! Hope you enjoy getting back into it 😊
Hi Ruan, watching Emmas coverage of your surprise appearance in Glasgow was amazing 🥰 I have been having serious loss of sewjo on and off all year for some reason. I’ve found that spending a bit less (well a LOT less actually 😬) time watching sewing based TH-cam videos has helped me be a bit more productive 😂 I’m also hating cutting projects out at the moment as well 🤔
He he. I watch them while I sew so not too bad for me 🤪
I moved down to Henley 3 years ago from Glasgow, cant believe your going to my home town! I live in Henley now so its a bit far to travel to fir an event! hope you had a nice time. Why not think about your chrustmas outfit to get you inspired again xxx
Thank you lovely x
Another idea is to go through your wardrobe, just the separates. To see what is missing. Put everything out together and see hat tops go with what bottoms. There’ll always be a lonely shirt or bottom which can’t really be matched with anything else. That’s if you are like me! Find a hole in your wardrobe and fill it! Then mix and match different outfits.
Great idea x
I find I want to sew what i want to sew. If something interferes with sewing what i want in the moment, I feel more blah about sewing. Recently it has been I want to sew cozy things and yesterday was 90 degrees F. No matter how many times I told myself that I get so much wear out of summer spring makes, I want to sew cozy because I very much want the cool weather to come. Especially since it is dark for longer now.
Yes. Totally this!
Lol they know you so well. I had severe FOMO for Scottish frocktails. It looked amazing! 🤩
How about a lyra in a different fabric? Jenny stitches suggested in her live the other night ..needle cord ...i thought yes..that would look great! I also find a good sewing room tidy up helps set you on the way again xx
Ooh needlecord would be gorgeous!
My cutting table looks like your cutting table, lol. Thank you for this inspiration!
You are so welcome!
I think I've found your sewjo Ruan. I've got it, lol 😅 i think it's the change of season , so try doing a bag or get an early start on Christmas pressies just to cleanse your pallette 😊
My sewjo comes and goes, but usually caused by something scares me or I ha e too much on.
Now, I cannot sew, I had plans for last week to try the trudy turtleneck and if that fit nicely, add the turtleneck bit to my fave vogue knit dress pattern to make it a winter pattern. But..... Last Friday I decided to launch myself down my stairs on my back with the result of a number of fractured ribs, one where the 2 bits do not even meet now. So I have the fabric out and ready, pattern printed but not stuck together. Over the last week I have managed to stick a few pages at a time, but not finished yet.
So as life is sometimes so contrary, I had plans to spend a whole weekend sewing and I spent it in bed instead!
I am fine in myself though.
I have dogs and cats, including a kitten so I am having to get up and about.
Oh my goodness! That sounds so painful! I slipped off the bottom step, ended up with a pulled tendon which also pulled part of a bone off. Six weeks later, after another x-ray, the doctor noticed I also had a hairline fracture in another bone. As I was sitting on the floor, with a golf ball sized lump in my right foot, one of my first thoughts was, at least I can still sew, I can work the pedal with my left foot. The reason that went through my head was because at the end of 2019 I fell and smashed my right elbow. Due to complications I couldn't do any kind of sewing. My right arm was pretty well out of commission for almost a year. Please look after yourself, you will get back to your old self eventually. I am sending positive vibes your way!
@@jennetthamilton971 poor you. I hope it's not that long for me although I have been back to A&E twice so far. They thought it was only soft tissue at first, but did an xray after I said my shoulder didn't feel right. That showed some fractures, so xrayed all my ribs which showed more fractures and the one that had snapped and moved. But luckily I am OK. I am hoping that in the next few days that I might be able to spend 10 mins at a time and get on with these plans.
Oh no 😢. Hope you’re ok xxx
@@theyorkshiresewgirl I am much better that you. I can drive now - woo hoo - which meant a trip to the local fabric shop today to buy zips, needles, maraflex in purple, red and pink and a load of Christmas fat quarters. I now have a massive ton of plans. No way will I get them all done.
I don’t like to shop anymore unless it’s a fabric store and I’m really new still to sewing.
I always start taking vitamin D when the dark nights arrive. As I can get very down. My sewing room has been packed up for 6 months now. The sale of our house has now fallen through,!!
Oh no 😥
Sometimes we just need a break
You are amazing 😂. Update please. I have been nodding my head then tisk tisk at others. 😂
How about making something for Christmas? Not clothing, but a decoration, Christmas tableware, or one of those Christmas advent panels. I've just made Christmas advent stockings for my son, who's just moved out (remember that new craft room I said I'd get when he moved out? Well, it's fabulous!!) Anyway... other than sewing, what about a new hobby to help with those in between times?? Scrapbooking the modern way, Project Life scrapbooking (TH-cam!!), crochet, cardmaking (not that we can afford to post them anymore 😂). I have so many hobbies that I'm never bored and go in phases with my hobbies so I'm never worried if I'm in a slump. 🎉
Great ideas! So glad you’re enjoying your craft room 🥳
I've been feeling similar recently and also can't work out exactly why. I've whipped up a quick Agnes top, Billie jumper dress and some tops for my Little Man, and that seems to have helped a bit, but still a bit Meh. Hopefully we'll both be back on it soon ❤
Yes maybe I need to do the same!
I may loose my sewjo but will be creative in some other way ( crochet, knit, embroider, draw) just like you wanting to do your drawing course. Have you looked at Zentangles. Anyone can draw using that method. It has simple step by step repetitive patterns. By the way I share a birthday with your husband ( obviously a perfect catch). Enjoy Frocktails.
Sounds great!
maybe accessories! I loved making a scarf recently i want to make gloves soon because my hands are HUGE lol !! 🧤
i loved this cozy video ❤ subscribed ☺️
My hands are too 🤣
I did waaaaay too much in July/August, everything was going great and then I took on something way over my head: slip covers for a customer and it was a nightmare that I had to bail on. I've never let someone down like that before and it really knocked my confidence. Then my cat got sick and yeaaaaaah I've lost my sewjo too. I've still done repairs, alterations for people but the fun stuff.... It's just not in me right now
Oh bless you. Hope it comes back soon. Be kind to yourself x
❤❤❤
I’m doing a sabbatical from
Sewing as my last dress I was making went horribly wrong it ended up being two sizes too big which was all my fault anyway I’ve vowed to give it a couple of months and start Again going back to basics again with a toile whether u wear it or not !
Oh bless you! It happens to us all. Get back on the horse 🐎 👍🏼
I think we make so many garments that we 1 have wardrobes full of stuff. Winter is nearly here so we don’t go out so much so we have all our garment left in moth balls.
I have just swapped my summer things for winter things I do need some more warmer thing but seeing as I’m am staying in a lot so I seem to have no motivation to make stuff.
I’m making my son some fleece lounge pants because the tight guy doesn’t put his heating on but after that 🤷🏻♀️
Yes intend to make more dressy things so maybe I need to concentrate on some day to day garments 🤔
I have the opposite problem right now. There are so many things I want to sew but I have not had any time to do them! Sadly, the next few weeks won’t be any better time wise for me.
🙈
The tidy space is my barrier but I'm messy at heart. Both my cutting table and iron board are completely covered and now I've recovered from my hand injury a messy space is what is holding me back. Stuff just migrates to flat surfaces and now it is overwhelming and I have no idea where to start 😮💨
I know exactly what you mean. Little steps. Maybe half an hour on a timer per day til it’s all clear? x
I’m like you sometimes Ruan with Sewjo, however only with procrastination on what fabric to choose 😅 So I make something for my daughter and it comes back with gusto 😂
Love that!
I think it’s the weather. Mines hiding too and when I tried to force it I just made mistakes and ended up hating my garment and then being annoyed that I’d ruined fabric. Winter makes me want to knit/crochet more but the bulging fabric cupboard and list of wants to do tells me I need to sew…..we’re funny us humans aren’t we
So true. I’m the same!
I have a theory about lost "mo-jo" in general: The brain is so busy downloading information that you simply cannot work cause brain is busy doing inventory or some such. maybe a break is needed? oh well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. its so frustrating in any case..
It is isn’t it!
I have been doing nothing but sewing for others lately, and that is messing with my sewjo. I have one more project for someone else (a laptop bag for my son … but I am having to design it myself because I couldn’t find anything like he wanted on the internet) … and one mend for others (sewing tape snaps in the bottom of some marching band pants), and then I might be able to sew for myself again. We’ll see.
Hope you get round to making something for yourself soon 😊
From the way you describe yourself, it might trigger your sew jo by taking some of Susan Khalje's or Alison Smith's lessons on couture sewing on Craftsy. I find it very satisfying to use some of the techniques they teach even on simple garments.
Are you going to the stitch at Harrogate? That might cheer you up.
I am!
I find going off and doing some other hobby works for me, like an embroidery kit, or video games or reading, or drawing, just something.. A few weeks later, the urge to get back in front of the sewing machine will come back.
Love that!
Babe, even if you love sewing, there’s only so many garments you can make and wear. Have a break. That’s what I’m doing. I have an outfit for every occasion and even occasions I will never go to.
🧶🌈🍓💙
xXX👍👍👍
It’s not impossible that destashing might have had a bit of an impact on you. Even though it might have been the right thing to do it is like saying goodbye to all the ideas you had for those fabrics or maybe feeling bad for having “too much” fabric. (I think “too much” is a very personal and subjective concept btw.) Hope you get going again soon, whatever it takes. Xxx
Think you’re right! X
Thank you - I just keep walking in and out of my sewing room- what’s that all about 🤦♀️
Ha ha. Ditto Alison!!!
I’ve had mine missing for a year. I miss it.
😢
I usually make something for someone else.. Make some Christmas gifts now
3 weeks not using a sewing machine .....I d written but not filmed the vlog 😂
Maybe it's the destash. Do you feel like you have a lot of clothing, lots you have made and feeling a bit overdone? Or maybe a bit of "hangover" from destashing. Hang in there Ruan! Glad to see the photos of you at Frocktails!!
Thanks honey - I have a lot of clothes that I don't wear any more so wondering if I need to do a big clear out!
Life is short - buy the fabric! That's why I've bought several pieces of sweater knits recently for cardigans, pull-on sweaters, and 1 sweater dress. I just don't sew as fast as I buy fabric!😮
Ditto 🤣
Honestly Ruan... mines gone missing as well... do you think they've run off together! It's been gone ages 😢.... Love you and your channel ❤️ ❤
I’ve been finding that being perimenopause has taken my creativity away
I think that might be the same for me! x
Maybe it's you just don't need another garment in your life at the moment and you don't get driven by sewing for the sake of it.
Buy new fabric you are obsessing over and a pattern you have never tried, and really like, and give that a go. My only other suggestion, drink more wine or cocktails, or what the heck, both!
