One thing to keep in mind - wood needs to be seasoned before burning. Means that it has to dry out a few months before burning.

Nice Tessie. Ive had woodstoves for decades...1. Maintain chimney. 2. Never put ash in anything but a metal container & not in or near home. 3. Keep combustibles away...that recliner chair may be to close. 4. A heat generated fan works nicely, maybe a consideration. Theres no heat like a woodstove, wishing you & hubby a safe & warm winter. Best wishes. P.s. that stove weighs a ton, thank God that person helped Kenny move it.🎉🎉🎉

So happy for you guys!!! We love our woodstove. Our insurance only required us to install the woodstove according to the requirements of the woodstove manufacturer. We installed it ourselves. The insurance company did send an inspector to verify it was installed correctly.
We have a woodshed with two sides (enough for 2 years total) full of dry wood plus an additional 3 years cut in our wood yard. We are just about set for winter. We still need to finish closing our above ground pool for the season plus I still have to fill the wood rack inside of our attached garage. It holds approximately 2 weeks of wood. It comes in very handy when an Iowa winter storm comes. It keeps me from having to travel to the woodshed. Our home is small, so this allows us to only have to keep a small amount of wood inside the house at a time. I fill the inside box in the morning and again in the evening from the wood rack in the garage.
We also have that same cast iron water pot on the top of our wood stove. Right now, it is decorated with artificial flowers. Once we are going to start the wood stove for the season, I take the flowers out and keep that water pot full of water. The water evaporates into the air which keeps the air from being so dry. We use it as a humidifier and it works great! I fill it once each day throughout the season. Sometimes I put homemade potpourri or essential oils in it to bring a beautiful fragrance into our home. We never use it for consumption. We have another pot for that.😀

Congrats on the wood stove! We have one in our home and in our small A-frame cabin - they work great and put out a lot of heat! You can get wood stove fans that sit on the top of the stove and operate just from the heat generated from the stove. They’re small but are great for moving the warm air around.

Well done having a wood stove installed Tessie & Ken. I recommend checking out a magneto fan. They do not use electricity and operate off the rising heat from the stove stop. Our downstairs fan moves the air all the way up the stair well and they are quiet. You will love the security of a wood stove, especially during a power outage. We are on the grid and enjoy it as long as we can afford the rates.

Love my Woodstove! I can cook on the top if needed, and it helps dry laundry in the winter, not to mention the cozy ambience! Make sure you get fire resistant gloves that go up to the elbow, especially since you have a front loading stove. They are also handy to avoid getting nasty splinters when you’re handling the wood. If you decide you want a fan, you can purchase self propelling ones that sit on top of the stove that are powered by the heat from the stove itself. When you get your deck done, you might want to have some thing built onto that to store some of your wood on that will also keep it dry and in a convenient spot. I have a big wood rack in my living room, and also have wood stacked against one wall. This enables me to get green wood , which is less expensive, And it doesn’t take very long for it to season inside the house. Green wood also doesn’t have bugs in it like older wood does. I love having it indoors because we get some pretty big blizzards here and not having to go outside and lug in wood from the outdoor wood rack makes life a lot easier along with keeping the floors cleaner. Happy you got this addition to your home, yes expensive to start but the peace of mind is priceless.

Have your hubby or chimney sweep put a wire guard (like chicken wire) around the open part of the chimney stack. We've been burning wood for years, and one day in the summer, I hear pounding coming from inside the woodstove. I look and see a bird has flown down the pipe and into the woodstove. Poor thing was hitting the sides and door to get out. We caught it, set it free and called our Chimney sweep who promptly came out and installed a wire guard around the stack. You will love your stove. There is nothing better on a cold night than sitting in front of your wood stove, cocoa in hand, watching the fire inside. It's so peaceful and comforting.

There are fans for woodstoves that work by the heat of the stove, the hotter the stove gets the faster it blows. I have one and it works great and no electricity is required. Tractor supply has them.

Been there, done that. The whole installation in a double-wide thing. Except ours was a pellet stove (when the pellets smelled like dirty socks). Where I live, only one company insures mobile homes. That’s it.
Nowadays, I’m in an actual building (half of a duplex) wishing I had a wood stove instead of multiple space heaters. But, you work with what you have, right? 🤷🏻‍♀️ They do have baseboard heaters here, but they’re very expensive and inefficient. I only heat my living room. As long as my cat is happy, I’m happy. In my bedroom, I have no heat. Just an electric blanket and multiple layers. I sleep with my windows open a few inches, and I have a mountain in my backyard. But as long as we have power, we’re comfy.

I live in NY and have an old Fisher Grandpa Bear wood stove. It’s not “legal” anymore because NY passed new emission standards for wood stoves and only approved wood stoves are allowed. I now only use it during power outage emergencies. Wood heat is A LOT of work so I don’t mind not heating with it. A new approved wood stove and installation would cost way more than heating with my kerosene Monitor heater, I also have electric baseboard heat but I rarely use it.

I would think stoves already installed would be grandfathered in. Blessings

Wow. I had no idea a wood stove in a mobile home was such an issue! That was quite an investment.
We have some serious issues with our house going on. Things needing done before the snow flies. Our home heating fuel furnace is 40 years old and last year was running harder? referencing sound, so need a thorough inspection along with the yearly maintenance. A rear deck and storage room addition has been a multi year project and at tail end of that. I need the room to house all food storage and equipment I'll run dehydrator there and jar the food. We've had a very old wood / coal stove in garage and relocating to basement. Our regular wood stove doesn't burn 8 hours and hubby has to get up in the middle of the night to feed it. We're trying out the old Warm Morning stove to see if it will work out better. We use the furnace as back up. Just got 200 gallons of fuel and that should last us 3 years by using wood as our main heat source. Always so much to do and every year changes are made.
