I learned on a Cat D318 powered 22B set upon as a dragline 50 years ago. I currently have a gas 15B, a Cat D311 powered Insley and a 1930 Waukesha gas powered P&H. They are great fun.
One of these days I'm going to be able to go to shows like this. I run old equipment myself and new of course but the old just has a feeling that the new don't have. Thanks for the video
Aged about 6 or 7 I had a ride in one of those working on the Holborn Viaduct in London. I can still recall the scent and the noise as the operator worked it with me in the cab.
can't all you club members ask all friends and relatives to donate suprplus cans of paints to be mixed together so one wekeend you can all volunteer to give all the sheet metal of the excavators a coat to preserve the thin metal?
We could, that's a good idea! Although, some people would rather the "patina" of the tractor to be preserved, and only want everything in working order. While painting it would make it look even better, you would have to remove all of the rust and sand down the old paint to give it a proper restoration. That comes at the cost of time and labor.
