Hi, once you update the SD card, do you simply pop it back into the car? Or do you need to upload the maps to your infotainment system?
Don’t see the windows and Mac download screen for the discover care software, just see the individual map packs . Has it changed or is it me ? .
same to me, I used mac and i didn't see anything like that either, and can't update my satnat.
I'm afraid this video is a bit dated now and some aspects have changed. I am working hard to make an updated version for more operating systems, etc. Keep an eye on the channel, it should be coming very soon.

This program doesn't work for me at all! It says the file isn't available on the server
I had the same issue. If you download it through a Google Chrome Incognito window it should work👍🏽 It was for my MK7 Golf GTD if that’s helpful.
Can't get this to work, doesn't look anything like you are showing. It only downloads format 7-zip no options to change

install the discovery car for you car dont install the maps from that page do it through the discovery app it will look just like his video when you do this
This process does not work on windows 10. Discovercare initially recognises the vw sd card and backs up original maps but then download fails due to insufficient space on card. After manually backing up and formatting the sd card discovercare no longer recognises it as a vw sd card. You then have to download the maps manually, extract and then copy over to the sd card. It’s a ball ache and should be easier. I suspect when you format the card you are removing the vw file system that allows discovercare to recognised it (2018 Passat).
Hi Toby, Thanks for the above we are just moving over to windows 10, so will give it a try. All the new vehicles are no longer coming with SD cards as can download direct to the vehicle so suspect VW will not update discovercare. Will do a update video if best to change the process for Windows 10.

This seems to gave happened to me as well. The instructions clearly recommend formatting the card, possibly making it useless. I tried copying the old files back onto the card, but nothing is registering in the car. It seems German VW engineers are very capable designing mechanical components, but much less so with the software. Actually, I've never experienced a worse system. Almost hopefully, this is VW trying to squeeze even more money out of it's customers.
@christopherholager I had the same issues, so I deleted the sd card then it wouldn't show up. So I just looked for the back up file and put that back and it worked but still can't update the satnav. Such a useless system. BMW was so easy to update. Even the MiB firmware is a long process

How can I get updates for my 2019 VW Tiguan Nav System for North America? We just bought this vehicle and it appears to have outdated maps from 2017. VW Navigation AS North America (V7).
This sadly doesn’t apply to North America. Map update SD cards have to be purchased AND installed by the VW dealer. Theres also a good chance you can not update your North American maps because the radios don’t let you. Went through this whole process on 2017 Jetta with the MIB II infotainment. Parts department at my dealer ordered the latest SD card but they were unable to install the new SD card. They had to call VW’s “Tech Line” who told them that the radio needed a non-existence firmware update in order to update to the newest map sd card. I got refunded and was not charged for any fees. Worth a shot though asking your VW parts department! Then complain to VWoA for their ridiculousness of not offering nav updates and giving the rest of the world free self downloadable navigation updates.
I wonder if the reason VW don't show the Windows version is because the process doesn't work on Windows.
I have a 2021 VW Tiguan R Line. VW got rid of all the SD card slots, CD players etc (cost cutting of course). I know I have the Discover Media (Gen 2), as the Discover Pro (Gen 2) is the larger screen, with no menus on the right side.
The software keeps talking about using an SD card. Recent cars have NO SD card slots anymore. So, I bought a 128gb Sandisk usb c stick. I managed to finally install the update on the stick after a few attempts. Make sure you format it to exFAT @ 128kb. I'm going to plug it in the usb c slot tomorrow to try and update the car's sat nav. Let's see if this works (I doubt it will though).

How do I get Canada and USA maps
This video is a waste of time, what VW show is not what happens when you try and update. The Discover Care file does not open when you click on it and process stops at that point and you are left with out of date maps. Very disappointed with VW on this matter, local VW dealers should be able to do the updates.
I have a VW Golf Sportsvan 2015. The SD card for the sat nav has never been updated and I cannot manage it - even with your helpful talk thru. I have Windows 8.1 on a laptop computer. I get as far as Download for Windows. I can download Disconvercare_ etc. Then nothing looks right! Any more help you can give me please?

I contacted VW Customer service about updating my Nav last year. I was told I'd have to go to the dealer and pay to get this done - so thanks for this; much appreciated!
Hi , after step1 (create backup) and step 2 (download) , in step 3 (installation),the installation blocked and show ERROR and I need to start again , I do it 3 times and the same error 😞, what can I do do ?

@@bigmac9013 tell the truth this was a while ago. I think instead of trying to go through the traditional install method, I just tried to do a straight drag and drop on the file while it was on my computer. and I think it did work. although I've found that I always use android auto and have my phone linked up.... and I don't even use the car's satnav. hope this was any help?

Thanks. The update worked for me. However, the DiscoverCare app is a complete shieeet at least on Windows 10. I formatted the card and copied the files from the ZIP download onto it and it worked like a charm.

Hello Chris, a great video on updating the Navigation VW sd card. I have just purchased a new Golf SV Match with revision V10 navigation sd card. I was scared to use my original VW sd card as shown in your video in case it all went wrong and then trying to explain to the VW sales that I had screwed the system. So I made a copy of the VW card to my HD on the PC, then copied that to a normal SD card formatted to Fat32. Loaded up the Discovercare software and inserted my normal SD card with the copy of the original VW SD card. Everything went as shown in your video and eventually the SD was loaded. It created a “backup” on to my HD. BUT when I then inserted the SD card into my car, the navigation system said there was no valid software/update information. Place the VW SD card back in and all is well.
Has the VW SD card have some sort of in bedded secret code so an ordinary SD card cannot be used?
Yes, the original VW SD card has an embedded card id (so-called cid) which gets read out on usage. It is possible to reflash some models of 3rd party SDs with the Volkswagen cid, but these models seem to be pretty rare on the market atm.
@@DannyAnon Thanks Danny, this is what I thought. I did try downloading the alternative option from the site which was for vehicles that did not come with a SD card. I purchased a good quality 32Gb card, downloaded the full European map, accepted the conditions and then let it run over night. At the end it told me there was a check sum error. I tried twice but still the same error.
@@johnpaine252 No Problem, John. Did you download the File using Discover Care or did you select the .7z-File directly? You might try to use Software like JDownloader to download the 7z-File as it constantly verifies the downloaded parts and checksums.
@@DannyAnon I downloaded from the main VW site as .7z file. I then extracted it using the 7z extraction software direct to the SD card. Using this method I did not get a checksum error, only when I went via the Discovercare procedure.
The SD card I have is SanDisk Extreme Pro 32Gb.
I have done it twice this afternoon and on both occasions when I place the SD into the slot, the navigation screen tells me there is no navigation data. Put my original VW SD card in and it boots up no problem. I will wait now untill it goes in for its service and expect an updated VW sd card. Thanks for your help. John
Hi Chris, I have a Mac...I have followed you steps... I downloaded the link for the Golf Variant 'Discover Media'. I have a 2015 Golf estate. It gives no option for either Windows or Mac installation on the site. I click on the link...it downloads. Once it has downloaded for the Bundle 1 option and I click on it it then goes to 'Archive Utility' and says it's expanding "discover Media 2_EU1410_V12.7z" Once it has finished 'expanding' ...nothing happens. It doesn't allow me to open it and doesn't take me to the Discover Care site where I then drag the info into applications. You say I need to authorise the apple app within the settings menu to allow this download. Any ideas how I do that? Maybe this is key? I've tried this half a dozen times now and its quite frustrating. It would be great if you can offer some advice please. Kind regards Andrew

I gave up on my VW Golf R 2019, I'm selling it! One of the reason is the way outdated map and many other vw bs. The robbery of the 200 CAD ! They can give me an updated card! NO! 55000$ matchbox and no free update???? Never ever VW or any other European brand and I am from there!

Hi Chris, thank you for posting. Unfortunately although I was able to follow all your steps, when I put the card into the navigation system of my mother's car - Tiguan 2017 UK model - I get the message, "Navigation Database Not Available", when I switch on the car. I've checked the SD card and can see that there is a folder there called Maps and it has data in it. I followed all the steps shown in your video (except I downloaded the maps file separately as it was so large 16GB). It feels like I am missing some configuration files on the SD card as part of the installation which the navigator needs to read before reading the map files. Any hints / tips I could check would be appreciated.
1. I have just downloaded bundle 1 (supposedly ALL of Europe) but it does not have Poland or the Baltic countries on there?!
2. this video is wrong. There is NO option for a mac download on the VW Sharan Discover page
I reckon this vid has become obsolete because this "DiscoverCare" program no longer exists on the VW website. Only map updates can be found there, which you manually need to copy onto an SD card (I recommend to keep the original as a backup in case of an error). This after a heavy download of over 13GB for the 'Discover Media' Bundle 1.
Unzipping this to an SD-card took me well over a whopping 6 hrs!!!
Also funny to see that you fully show your installpath 04:41 and mask it a good minute later (at 05:47) :-D
Thanks for the video. I try to update my maps on my 2020 VW Polo with Discover media. I download the maps and unzip it and put it a new SD card all successfully. However, when I put the SD card in the Discover media SD slot, it come us with a message Readng SD card in Slot 2 briefly and then it comes up with a message 'Cannot read SD card'!

The UK website doesn't have the software for Windows or mac.
However, found a older version of the software. Ask me to update. When I did it, took me to a German VW site. Which still doesn't have the software to download.

So i've just updated my wifes 2018 Tiguan with discover media nav, simply downloaded the euro maps 13gb ish, deleted the old files of sd card and copied extracted maps folder onto sd card, I tried a couple of other cards but didnt work so had to go back to original vw card
I just bought a brand new Alltrack SEL two days ago. Should it have come with the SD card? It doesn't look like I received one, and if I click on the nav button it just says "Navigation database not available". The digital compass and elevation gauge don't work either.

Is there any way to do this on a Touran 2014? The maps to download are for newer versions. Another issues is, that I bought the car used, but there was no SD card following it, can an update be done without the VW SD card?

No help at all. (1) it does not tell me what to do if an error occurs, which it always does and (b) it does not tell me how to restore my original data when the update fails, which it always does.
Doesnt like the original SD card as its not reading it and yes it has been unlocked using the slider. Disappointing you have not made a windows version or given tips on error which may occur when attempting to update the VW sat nav system

I installed the same way but in a non-VW SD card on 2011 Tiguan (RNS 510) and is not reading the navigation from that. i tested the sd card with some songs and it's working, but not the navigation.

Chris, I have Mac and tried to follow your instructions.i got as far as download, but how do I authorise (In settings)the down load for Mac. It come up that “ Discovercare” cannot be opened because developer cannot be verified. MacOS cannot verify that this app is free form malware. It only gives option to “move to bin” or “cancel”. I have tried download with Safari and Google chrome. I have even tried it with turning of the firewall. I have been unable to get any further.
I am using the latest software Catalina ver 10.15.4.
Any help appreciated.

Unfortunately the Discover Care program is no longer available on the VW website. I have tried updating manually and hit many problems. So although the updates are free for a lifetime, I cant update at all....

hi, I bought a golf mk7 from Japan and I was trying to change the navigation maps to my country ( Mozambique ), but at the end when I try to do the software update its comes with a massage on the discover gen1 saying: the regions do not match (main unit ) 'ROW JAPAN'

I checked the glove box and only infotainment unit but no SD card for Sat/nav. Thanks anyway.
Not sure about 2010, I just got a 2013 touareg and there is a yellow plastic thing on the top left of the glove compartment with music icon on it. When I pulled it down the DVD player showed up and on it there are 2 slots for SD cards. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a card 🙁

Hi Chris, I have Discover Media Gen 2 but despite installing all ongoing and latest updates there is a significant problem with the Sat Nav concerning speed errors. Consistantly repeated with respect to certain roads the Nav system annunciates incorrect speed limits. The speed limit icons are shown in the dash. When the limit is wrong, like on a 70 limit dual carriage way a 60 limit is annunciated,, and alarm is sounded and a annoying warning to brake. Additionly, if ACC/ Predicitive CC is operating, it will jamb on the brakes to slow the vehicle - all very dangerous and annoying. VW do not care and say await future update. Above has been since new (2018 model). How on earth can I fix it ?
