Ubuntu Mate strikes the middle ground between a lightweight & heavyweight distro. It's not the best looking desktop environment. However, it backs it up with being snappy & practical to use. I would recommend Ubuntu Mate if you want to bring back life into old hardware. Still its a good idea to try out the distros first before installing. You might perfer Lubuntu, Xbuntu, or even Ubuntu Unity over Ubuntu Mate. I was really hesitant about installing Ubuntu Mate because it doesn't look great, and it looks outdated. But after trying it, I don't regret it.
Every time i try to install it I get operating system not found. I have to install the mini iso and select mate from tasksel and then i update it from there. It thinks my bios computer is a EFI system.
ubuntu mate removed the welcome app and software boutique this release for some reason, thats why the welcome app wasnt there. also the steam snap is horrible and will just stop certain games from loading, like paradox games such as stellaris/hearts of iron etc.
@@Egeexyz I'll be testing it in a VM. Please make a video for the alpha release. Hey, you never know, I might switch to it for real if it works for me 😉
Great video as always! :3 I like Cinnamon more than MATE, despite them being extremely similar. Cinnamon just feels nicer to me. Both are great though. And yeah, I also dislike snaps. It's why I avoid Ubuntu too. x-x
I like Cinnamon a lot too but the killer feature that Mate has is you can swap out components like the Window Manager. Cinnamon has muffin and that's it. Muffin is a really great window manager though!

Nice to see you back with another distro delve!
Regarding steam not showing up in status bar, might be because you launched it from terminal and when you exit it kills the process.
Right but it should have shown an indicator briefly when I opened it, no? Or maybe it doesn't appear until you fully log in..

What!! Why did they do that!? I'm sure they have a reason but I remember the boutique being really good
I tried i and liked it i had a minor issue
When i removed snaps completely and block it
When i restarted my pc the issue was gone
mate desktop 1.28 is released, but it seems that there is no distro that uses it.
Can you just release your distro already? Lol
Or have you already released it? I really want to test it.
An alpha will be out soon! I need weekly iso builds automated first. It's almost done with Arch but there's some kernel stuff slowing me down.
