  • Today we take a look at Ubuntu Budgie 24.04 LTS. This is the second time I take a look at Ubuntu 24.04 but my first time in a long time to look at the Budgie desktop environment. I had a blast taking a look at this one. I am really impressed with Budgie....really really impressed.

Thanks for this! Looking to clean up the wife's machine since Windows 10 is EOL next year and we're NOT doing W11. Microcrap has really turned into a steaming pile. I had Fedora and I like Debian and looking at Cinnamon or Budgie for desktop for her on distro tbd. Thanks again!

Solus Budgie is better in my view and also the original distro to create the Budgie DE. Ultra Marine Linux and Fedora both do very good Budgie versions as well.

    Hello.
Well, I've upgraded to Ubuntu Budgie 24.04 by doing a clean install on my internal SSD in my Dell Precision 3431 computer.
Before I upgraded, I saved all of my files and folders onto an external hard drive.
Now, though, when I plug in my external hard drive to copy my files and folders back, the drive will neither mount, nor be opened.
Any and all advice/info/help will be very welcome! Thank you very much!

Hi! Congrats on moving to Linux. I would check and see if the drive is formatted for Windows, specifically NTFS. If so, do a search with Ubuntu, NTFS, and mount. If it isn't an NTFS drive, search the Ubuntu community for USB drives and mounting. I know it would be easier for me to give you a link to some good tutorials, but this comment could get flagged if I add a link. Good luck!

@@JeremysTechChannel Thank you for responding. This drive was usable in Ubuntu Budgie 22.04, but not now in 24.04. I will see if GParted can look at it.

@@JeremysTechChannel Okay. I looked at it in Gparted, and it is formatted as ntfs. In Ubuntu Budgie 22.04, I was able to mount it, open it, copy files and folders to it, etc. I don't know why I cannot do any of these things in 24.04.

@@elyzsabethahne2116 if i recall correctly this is from really old memory. There are linux kernel headers you need to install to decode NTFS drives. Look up "linux kernel ntfs install". They must have not installed it by default this go around. not sure why but probably an oversight

@@elyzsabethahne2116 Hi, I have checked into Ubuntu 24.04 flavours, there seems to be issue with the mounting of drives (other than primary). What we can do in order to resolve is to check with the applications such as (disk, gpart) and then select the drive that you want to be mounted, after that check with the path or change the path of default drive through (Edit mounting point). Once it is done, your drives are automatically able to get mounted similar to 22.04 .
