It was a well- deserved win for Lupita Jones who showed incredible poise, self- assuredness and a lot of charm. The Netherlands and Venezuela had contrasting outcomes. Miss Netherlands narrowly missed the first cut by placing 10th but she kept advancing and placed 4th in the semis and made the final round with her response to the job offer question. Venezuela, on the other hand, who qualified at 7th place got consistently high scores during the semis and eventually placed 2nd behind Mexico who topped all three areas of judging. Unfortunately, although she gave a strong answer during the top six round, she didn't connect with the judges and I blame it on her eyebrows lol. I believe she lost one of the top three spots to Netherlands. What can I say about USSR? Well, she was like a breath of fresh air onstage where her tentativeness and awkwardness worked in her favor. She was so endearing especially in the first two rounds of interviews where spontaneity and candor are equally favored with poise and eloquence. Her final response though rightfully gave her 3rd place among the top three. France and Curacao were two of my favorites. It was just unfortunate that they were in the first half of semifinalists where judges are notorious for holding back on the scores. If you've been following and observing the scoring, scores became progressively higher in the second half of the semifinals. As a side note, when the cameras panned to the candidates' families during the personal interview round, you find out that the fathers of USA, Netherlands and Curacao were incredibly hot. Finally, who would have thought that the prim and proper Kelly of the United States would end up as a hard core porn actress years later?
It was nice Miss Mexico became the first Miss Universe. But through out the years, she has been working with the candidates who will represent Mexico. Lupita personality changed since she won, she’s now into politics and doesn’t give any importance to the winners who’s have represented Mexico in the last five years!!! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina! I miss this kind of Miss Universe pageants. The new pageants are boring!!!
