So glad TH-cam suggested this video to me, albeit 3 months late! I have had my 996 cup nearly 7 years and still loving the journey. They’re a labour of love so to speak, but such a rewarding race car. Looking forward to following your journey with yours.
THIS is what it's all about! It felt like meeting myself in another body listening to the deep passion for this very particular subject and era of motorsports. The nostalgia and excitement for these cars is like nothing else. I drive my 96 Viper everyday with the same love and child like amazement every time I lay eyes on it. Not many things in life can do that to a person...
Stumbled across your film and loved it. I’m a 996 C4S owner in Sydney Australia and have enjoyed some historic racing in my ‘69 Triumph GT6 in recent years, but a 996 Cup car…..mmmmm you got me thinking! Look forward to your next update.
Thank you for the encouragement! It's coming soon, I promise. Hoping to get EP2 out by mid-January and 3&4 shortly after. Most of the filming is done for those. I'm actually taking the car to the track on Monday, so fingers crossed it goes well!! Thanks for following along and keeping me juiced to keep going.
Awesome, just Awesome man another Phoenix 996 owner , fanatic really. Built my car a condo garage with one outlet in the ceiling. I didn't know an immobilizer from an ims when I started. 😅 I love that car looking forward to seeing your stories 🤟
I had the opportunity to get a 911 g body caged and ready to be built but I couldn't pull the trigger. I hope you have fun with yours and can't wait for the next one!
Live in the UK, have other race cars but just bought a 996 cup from Sweden that raced in the Scandi Cup 2004/5 - driving with trailer to Sweden to pick it up on Tuesday 27th - looking forward to the car / project and racing it - good luck with your and it looks wonderful
Love this story! Kudos to pursuing your passion. Look forward to seeing where the story goes. I think you are going to need a bigger garage soon Bubba.
Beautifully done. For any of us like minded/obsessed individuals, your life’s trajectory and this story really resonate. This video was unexpectedly emotional for me. Can’t wait to see more.
I remember those. They started off in Grand-Am Cup as SGS cars. Then moved to Rolex GT. Pratt and Miller came out with the GTO in 2005 and deemed those cars noncompetitive. Thus it started the Frankenstein years of adding things to them to make them go faster and progressed into the 997. Those became more of a hodge podge of parts. Good luck on what you'll find on it. Surprises galore unless it was not run until the end but just the first few years. If was raced alot, then it was crashed alot. It was normal operating procedure back then.
Great video! I was surprised to see my own car in it 👍 the 996 GT3 Clubsport in the Octane Magazine, hope it helped giving you that push to buy an incredible car.
Hah - what a small world this is sometimes! Kudos to you for your beautiful 996. Octane is an incredible magazine and what a great moment for you to cherish.
what a sick car love te 996. Unfortunately bottled it from buying one a week ago 996.2 c2. I just dont feel like i deserve such a beautiful car. Yet. Maybe in 8 years when im nearly 40...
Thank you!!! Hope you found what you are looking for. If not, I might have something available in a month or so! I'm currently working on episode 2, which is a deep dive into the history of the car, Grand-Am, etc. Episode 3 will be all of the work to get the car back to the spec it ran in Grand-Am. Episode 4 will be a stand-alone short film about taking the car back on the race track when it is finished. Episode 5 will be a bit of a retrospective, talking about the series and sharing some behind-the-scenes stories.
To race in Grand-Am I believe the only major thing that needed to be changed was that it needed to be outfitted with a fuel cell instead of the factory tank. I'm actually going to cover some of this in the next episode. Stay tuned!
This will become something great! Wouldn’t mind some technical videos of rebuilding the car. @Onlyaroadtripaway could be inspiring. Ultimatly it’s your story. Looking forward to the next episode.
Only a Road Trip Away was actually one of the inspirations for this!! I saw one of the videos in the 2023 Overcrest Film Festival and made the decision at that moment that I wanted to do something in 2024. Here we are! The third episode will actually be a complete breakdown of everything that's been done to the car. It won't be a step-by-by-step guide or highly technical, but more of a "here's how I approached this challenge and here's what I did kind of thing" Thank you for the compliment and I think you will enjoy what is to come!

Appreciate you saying this! From the beginning, the thinking was to just do something true to me and how I feel and hope it connects with others.

Your story is similar to mine, except I went the mechanic route
I would love to here about the financing in the future
Can you talk about the changes/differences between a standard Cup and the Grand Am cup?
