I raised my goat enclosure up off the ground about 4' and built the floor out of 1x4 planks and spaced them apart by about 3/4". I left a couple of them that I can easily lift up, so I can simply sweep the poop to the open spaces, which makes cleanup a breeze. On hindsight, I wish I had painted the planks with a marine paint so nothing could stick to them. Because the floor is raised up, made with PT wood and good ventilation, odor is never an issue. However, I have only had goats for about 6 months. I can only assume that over time the wood will accumulate urine and start to stink. Thanks for the video.

I did not know you are supposed to add water! Good tip!

This is so funny because if I were to stand in the opening of my goats bedding area looking at the back wall, my goats pee spot is in the SAME spot as yours!!!!!! Haha

What size area do they sleep in and how many goats do you have? I’m considering using the pellet bedding in our stalls but not sure how much to use. They have free access to the stalls year round.

If you use water on the bedding, how do you know the difference between it and the urine the next morning?

hey there, how do you clean the poop daily? I'm finding it very wasteful when I use a shovel and the rake just moves the poop around.

We live in Maine and I am curious how people would use this method in the winter time.

Tractor Suppl says that a bag that covers 4 square feet costs 6.50 at. For our 10x16 shed that would be 40 bags. $250 x 2 times a month = $500 a month. That seems awfully expensive. Am I getting something wrong?

We are starting a small “farmstead”. We will have chickens, pigs and a beefer or two. Very curious about goats. My question is why? What do goats bring to the table? Do you sell the kids? Do you milk them? Please excuse my ignorance on this, but could someone please explain what you DO with the goats?

Van Miles I hope u ended up getting goats even if it’s a couple of wethers like i just got, they are super sweet very affectionate, they make great pets and will clean up most unwanted weeds

great for getting rid of weeds and keeping mowing to a minimum, I have 2 acres, and 2 goats, the property was littered with stickers, the goats eat the plant before it has time to grow stickers, so in a few years sticker weeds will be gone forever.

We have our goats for the milk. You'll have to breed for that. We make cheese, yogurt, kefir, soap, and caramel sauce with it. Check out our latest videos on cheesemaking and smoking cheese. It's all delicious!

How did you do your floors where they sleep? How do you protect wood from the urine?

    • @thehoppygoatfarm9480

We use elastomeric for the floors. It works really well. This video is a bit old as we now have the goats sleeping in a shelter outside. Our small herd of 3 turned into 8 so they needed a larger area.

What if you didn’t have to scoop up the wet urine areas each day and clean the barn every two weeks??

Hi Ashley, we compost all of the animals bedding and poop. Makes for black gold in the garden.

    • @gregfritz8102

@@thehoppygoatfarm9480 composting is what I was going to suggest, I made a simple compost heap with 4 pallets with 1/4" wire mesh inside for the walls to allow air to get to it.

Roughly how long does it take for the pellets to fully expand?

Hmmm, I'm sure it would but you'll still need to use pork fat.

Does the bedding freeze in the winter when you add water?
