They look super practical in the snow. I love how this video demonstrates their superior snow grip and ease of install in the snow. Good job on those snow chains. You really call do anything if you use your imagination.
nothing beats a good set of snow tires! I live in an area where snow tires are mandatory from December 15th to March 15th. No one uses chains here except for the farmers on their tractors In winter. Also, it is illegal here to drive with chains on the roads, we are only allowed studs in our winter tires.
but you don't know that there is other countries in the world not just America and there are tires with spikes and chains. sometimes just military equipment works. oh your god
Good old set of snow tires doesn't work for everyone. I don't know where some of these people live. Some places have heavy snow on the roads ALL THE TIME.
no, sorry.. people always make this same mistake, but its actually from the late 60's, "Slow Reamers (Nine is Fine, Mike)".. listen closer :P im pretty sure this track is called "Makin' Butterfingers"........ :D
Looks like one of the best inventions I have seen in a long time if it works it will probably save a lot of lives and make winter driving much safer. ITS A YA-YA!
I do too, and for most people in small to midsize vehicles they work fine. I see chains being used on snow plows and transport trucks and stuff like that more often than I do on regular cars,
+Atouk No, I think the chain must has inserts that to be fitted in the deep thread on the tire, otherwise it will likely slide away while driving. If it is laid flat on the pavement, how can you drive that precise at the scale of millimeters to get the thread land on the chain inserts?
I used to be a rally driving instructor at the largest school in the US. Im right on this one. Tall and skinny in snow. If its straight ice you can go wider.
i suggest you reduce air by 10lb then after you put these on ...incresse the pressure 5lb.s. that way , they will bge tight and in a center depression which should stop them from comming off
How do they not fall off to the side of the tire, nothing is holding them centered? And how are you sure they would fit your tire, as they are made up by fairly long segments? Regular chains are easier to install.
you know its the furture when everything is mounted with "future ties" aka god damn zipties. that latching machanism is sick though. ill keep the normal chains thankyou
Off course I thought about what I said. It seems a lot more difficult to get the 'tension tool' onto the chain when the wheel arches are in the way. Not to mention trying to tension them. I would really like to see him do a rear wheel of a modern car.
+roger S.jr. (rms555) No, inner chain circle is smaller than tire circle. Connections are inside lower tire profile. Losing pressure doesn't make tire radius smaller. ;)
+Don KiksBiscuits I don't think or you'd have to have a flat to have a problem. Since you have to pull over and stop with a flat, you have to take it off and change it anyway. That would be a pain though! 1). Loosen lug nuts. 2). Jack up car. 3). Remove chains. 4). Remove tire. 5). Put on spare. 6). Put chains on spare. 7). Lower car and tighten lug nuts. If you carry that wimpy "compact spare" you'll have to swap out a good back tire and put the compact tire onto the back (assuming front wheel drive car).
+grrunf Try it both ways and get back to me. In the snow, it's probably going to be easier to mount the spare first and then put the chains onto it. But I'm open-minded, prove me wrong. I'll thank you for it if you do. Now modern spares are compact tires and not the same size so the chains would not fit that tire at all. I put my chains on the front only so if I have a front flat I will put a good rear tire onto the front, the compact spare onto the back, the chains onto the front tire, flat tire in the trunk (boot), and be off again. This will be time-consuming and cold exercise! LOL
zip ties aren't needed at all if you drive halfway onto them first, wouldn't hurt to make them a bit wider for wider tires? Using specific tires with wide enough straight line grooves would be good for extra stability. Since you would be pulling them out of your trunk I doubt they would be frozen when installing them; as well as when taking them off after having pivoted/moved during the whole trip on the tire they would likely easily unclip. Is each link able to be seperated with the tool or is there 1 specific joining spot? If it were modular then replacement links would be a cinch with the tool. Probably only want to drive on them when there is packed snow on dirt sideroads or where the plows haven't yet cleared the snow. The best application would surely be involved with rally racing, truckers on the ice roads to emergency & response vehicles as well as forestry vehicles. I bet bicycles could use something like this as well, although my skinny tires cut through the snow just fine when it is fresh.
scrap cat I would say it depends on how often you have to use them. Also if they save a lot of time and your wife or love would not have to crawl part way under the car to install chains they may be well worth the extra cost to someone.
I feel that if this is what you need you should actually need a decent pair of studded snow tires to do the same thing. Also chains are used for deep snow where 1/2 in. lugs will grip the snow, or cleated chains dig into the ice.
Its a misconception that skinny is always better for the snow. When you don't have any studs to reach down into the ice below the top layer of snow you actually want a large contact patch in order for all those little groves and blocks of the tread to grip as much snow as possible. A good example for this is to look at what rally cars actually use in the dirt. They use wider blocky tires.
Every time I have had to stop and put on chains, I already have a layer of pack snow around the tire. So wrapping these around then compressing them on the tire with the shown tool to make the connection would require I soon stop to do it again. They would wear into that mentioned packed snow around the tire and become loose. I could see stopping to re-tighten them just to find they fell off already. Good thing about conventional chains is the elastic tightener straps are constantly pulling them tight. I agree that good snow tires go along way but there are times when the extra bite that chains can give you will make the difference.
Craig VanMeter You know, I think you are right! I think it would be much more difficult to put these on with the needed tire grooves full of road debris (gravels) and frozen snow/ice. Good eye man! I'll stick with my cumbersome but cheap and 100% effective tire chains.
Hi there folks :D .. Im proud to tell that the inventor of this snow chain is from my country and my city ! ( Pula City , Croatia) ... As for zip locs.... yes they are reusable.. if you know the trick how to open them ( or maybe he had some custom designed ones xD
@SMGJohn Chains are really meant for when you do not have snow tires, spike less snow tires (to some degree on ice), but mainly for 'summer' tires (or tires without show grabbing thread). Very rarely would you need chains if/when you have snow tires (or even M+S tires). Also mainly used where people are not custom with snowy winters (i.e. I-80 from San Francisco to Reno ..., Norway over Vikafjell mid winter not so much.
it may be an issue with people using air to fill their tires. as it gets colder (as is usually the case when snow chains are needed) the air will shrink causing the tire to shrink. if a day is particularly cold, it may cause a tire to shrink just enough to allow these to come off while driving. this is why nitrogen is now being used in some cases. temperature fluctuation does not affect it as drastically as simple air.
Canadian cars have winter tyres installed. In a lot of countries there isn't enough snow season to justify them (we only get 10 days'year of snow here) and chains are a good alternative
People don't seem to understand that the chains yes, they do increase grip while powering the wheel to go forward, but the grip sideways and under breaking is no match for chain to keep up with a good set of winter tires designed to co-operate with cars own systems under a radical situation where you need to use the absolute limits of tires grip to hold your car on the track.
Amazing. You could increase or decrease the system diameter as the application demands. The ratcheting-fastening system is tire pressure dependent not tread dependent. Production of this brilliant solution would result in even better more fool proof attachment technique.
Just noticed this on their website (exact quote): "*PLEASE NOTE* MITA Snow Chains require tyres with common design feature of a continuous groove around their circumference, measuring a minimum of 6mm in width and 4mm in depth."
Have you ever considered making these a little wider for 10" and 12" tires and putting a more rugged tread on them. They would love these in the off road community for running mud and sand.
Looks a lot easier to put on than regular chains to me. If they work as well then seems like a good idea. However, I'd be a little worried they would slip off, and you'd have to trust that the links are really strong as that looks to be the weak point.
Notice how conveniently left out the portion how to actually connect them together. Just skipped over to the tightening part. And making an ad for snow chains when no snow, is plain dumb. Showing test runs on gravel?

Je n'ai pas trouvé ce modèle sur le marché en France ! j'aime bien ce modèle.
What happened to the original music, and what was it?
InstaBlaster.
Would be nice to see them in the SNOW.

I like seeing an inventor demonstrating his invention! well done
If i would ever have to drive through snow, i would totally buy em!
Think being trapped in a room without windows for 10 hours with this song.
Hahaha u would go crazy
Where can I order it?
love that 1970s "9th" chord riff. Makes me want to buy an American Motors Pacer and watch "Welcome Back Kotter" reruns
dag gonnit.!!!!!!!!! I love the beats, man.!!!!!!!!!!!! grooooooooooooovy.!!!!!!!!!!!
MrMus TangMan Good for you, I think it's the main soundtrack from the 70's film "Assbusters 63".

When do the girls come out?
She's in the front passenger seat waiting to suck her man's lollypop as he drives away...

Did that slow appearance of that URL's letters annoy anyone else???!!!
Bravo decki! Sad vidi svijet kako su hrvati umni... Svaka cast!
The ties are totally unnecessary. Lay the strip down flat on the pavement, drive into it, connect the ends.
+Atouk No, I think the chain must has inserts that to be fitted in the deep thread on the tire, otherwise it will likely slide away while driving. If it is laid flat on the pavement, how can you drive that precise at the scale of millimeters to get the thread land on the chain inserts?
I'm REALLY liking that Quick-release mechanism
Nice editing job. I saw what you did on the installation
+John Gemelli
What ?
You can see that the car pulled too far forward. Then magically the "chain" is in the perfect spot.
+John Gemelli
???
No trick,
check other videos, maybe you'll see better. ;)
Wow a new invention.. a snow tire that could drive on dirt.. SUCH genius..
damn nice type r :D would prefer it black or white though :)

How do they not fall off to the side of the tire, nothing is holding them centered? And how are you sure they would fit your tire, as they are made up by fairly long segments? Regular chains are easier to install.
There tightened on to an inflated rubber tire, so there would be a lot of friction.
I spotted your answer there. They fit in one of the grooves that go all the way around the tire.
you know its the furture when everything is mounted with "future ties" aka god damn zipties. that latching machanism is sick though. ill keep the normal chains thankyou

great demonstration of product performance in actual snow!.. great!!
Nice informative video. Thanks .
But please convey from where to buy ?
Its great to have something like this, the thing is you have to put them on before you get stuck :)
I was waiting for a pizza guy or plumber to show up

posting id Twat.
Driving on basically metal strips for tires seems like it would reduce traction on pavement and smooth roads
Baby making music!
They are re-usable cable ties. They have a little tab that allows them to be removed. You can buy them from most good hardware stores
good luck going that i 2 min in snow storm on all 4 wheels

I think these chains look awesome!
А зачем было с хомутами лишние телодвижения делать?когда мог положить и заехать на центр!!! =)
а ты вдруг в дороге встал где то и что делать буд хотя можно использв дамкрат и пипец
Very smart! I liked the music too.
New snow chains !my ass ! They forgot snow! Advertise new snow chains, drive around on pavement & With no

hahahahahaha
How about in Mud? I would to go mud terrain with these. Will the mud stick on this chains? Love it.
where can I buy this it's not ebay or amazon neither a link... where
Cool I would like to try these out. I wonder if they would work on pick up trucks as well as cars.

you want 450.00 dollars for a set of chains . you are crazy
Nice demo, should be a good way for that little extra on ice..
Incredible music while I was watching this video my girlfriend was listening to the music and start taking her clothes off !!!
Forget the chains!! Play the music! ;)

Where can i buy these
Good for people that fear driving in winter or not that good in it. Scared people are the most dangerous people on the road.
Where is the Snow?
я так и не понял, нафига эти цепи летом нужны? а зимой? чтоб быстрее в кювет сковырнуться?
Now show me a real world test on snow and ice.
No problem, Just klik the link of latest video pinned above, :)
Beats the hell out of the old ones.

Jaron Lindow right lol
Even the best snow tires don't always work on icy roads. Where can I get a pair of them next-gen snow chains?
Music is really effin annoying! I dont even wanna see pt. 2
Pity, part two has a great music :)
music is great son.
sounds like Average White Band.
Easy to fit for sure, but can it handle the massive snow and spinning in the snow...
SNOW???
@Oldjohn52
Since this chain is in the middle, tire is carier of weight on sides, not chain.
...so, no problem ;)
Exactly, you use chains only when nedeed (on snow or ice).
Zip ties, huh?
People usually have a set of rims with summer tires and a set of rims with winter tires. Changing wheels takes 20 minutes tops and that is including a beer and a sandwich.
